Draginon he/him Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 I'm going to be going on Christmas vacation soon and I don't want to haul Way of Kings with me so I'm going to put it on hiatus after reading the first batch of Interludes. In the meantime I'll be doing a couple Star Wars reads, more specifically From a Certain Point of View and Leia Princess of Alderaan. So far I'm liking WOK and really like Kaladin, Shallan and Jasnah. I just find it so weird to have a guy like Kaladin being younger than me since from the bits I had read about him before reading the book I assumed he was well into his 20's or in his 30's. I pegged the woman near enough on age, if a couple years off from my estimation.
Sunbird she/her Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 About a quarter of the way done with The Empty Grave, book 5 in Jonathan Stroud's Lockwood & Co series. (I'm pretty sure it's also the final book.)
Draginon he/him Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Reached a stopping point in WOK so I'm reading a short read called Fairest of All until I leave for vacation.
NamelessThirteenth Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Why the hell is anybody posting here at this time of the year? OF COURSE we're all reading Oathbringer...

Kered he/him Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Finally picking up the First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. Just finished "The Blade Itself", staring in on number two today. It got me hooked, but it took longer than I expected. Ninefingers is officially in the group of my favorite fantasy characters. I also decided to take a step out of my comfort zone and try a YA novel, "All The Bright Places" by Jennifer Niven. It's about a teen struggling with clinical depression and suicidal ideations. It's a really unique and immersive take on it. Deeply sad, but also a really good read. 1

Problem here is that I'm broke and I had to wait two weeks until the local library bought it. My pocket money as a fifteen year old did nit suffice. That said, I'm almost done anyway... PLEASE DON'T LET IT EEEEEEENNNNNNNNDDDDDD

Nah its Glokta that really had me hooked. I mean, who wouldn't want to hear the iner thoughts of a crippled fifty-year-old torturer? 1
Left he/him Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 Finished Oathbringer over Thanksgiving break obviously, and I'm getting back into Sandman. I finished vol 7 and I'm on vol 8 now, since that's how numbers work. I also read an interesting book on the ethics and morality of developing AI and their consequences. Catch-22 was really funny too. I might start Night Angel, but I dunno, still haven't really picked a series to read yet. I'm really psyched that Iron Gold comes out in 6 weeks.

Say one thing for Logen Ninefingers, say he's an awesome character. 1

If you trust me on anything, trust me when I say that Night Angel has so many flaws it almost isn't worth your time, and if you decide not to read it you'd be better off.

Just finishing up rereading Morning Star so everything is fresh for Iron Gold. Advance reviews of the books have been very positive. I feel like the author has become more ambitious with each book and the result is a upward trend. Edited December 5, 2017 by Ammanas

I only barely got through the first book and would have to agree. It is rare that I give up on a series after one book but this one I did. Oh man cant wait for Iron Gold also! I feel like I need to re-read that series or at least Morning Star. Great series.

And some of us are trying to catch up to that point Anyway I finished Fairest of All. I had to pace myself because of how fast a read it was that I had to stretch a one day read over three. Will probably do the first batch of interludes for WOK before I leave for vacation next week along with reading the next book of the Disney Villain books called The Beast Within.
Briar King Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Probably close to heresy on this Board but I’m really struggling with Oath...

StormingTexan he/him Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Part 3 was the slowest to me although the end is good. Some people thought part 4 was slowest I didn’t think that. Part 5 is full throttle all the way through. 1

I’m staying away from the ded threads obviously till I finish it but I’m itching to get in there and see if other people are sharing my particular dislikes with this entry. I was not expecting this book to take this long to read.
Flying she/her Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 I'm reading Oathbringer currently. Oathbringer's not a good thing to dedicate yourself to a few weeks before finals....... Anyways, I have around 480 pages left, but due to school I'm probably going to end up taking longer than I would like to read it. I'm planning to read The Martian and do my Harry Potter re-read with my best friend after I finish Oathbringer.

I too struggled with it. But when "you might not know who" appeared, and "you might not know what" happened, I quickened my pace, and withdrew my hands from the book only after finishing it. 1
