Knights Radiant cosplays and our Order colors...

My sister and I are finally tackling our Knights Radiant cosplays for DragonCon...and, needless to say, we kind of have our work cut out for us. In a good way, I guess. :) We've been reading over our bookmarks and scouring the forum and the wiki, and can't seem to find this answer anywhere. Which probably means it's yet to come, but if you all have any insight from Q & A's with Brandon, that'd be lovely!

She's settled on being a Windrunner - so, traditional unpainted armor with glowing blue glyphs, light blue eyes, and a rich blue cape. Seems pretty straightforward. I was going to go with Edgedancer, but haven't found enough references to convince me to go with any one color scheme.

At first I thought the joints of the armor would glow amber, referencing the flashback where Dalinar encounters the two knights, one of which uses Regrowth. I figured, that's got to be either an Edgedancer or a Truthwatcher, right? Except she uses a topaz entwined with a heliodor to heal him...does that indicate that she was using a fabrial, not a Surge? And isn't amber associated with the Stonewards?

Then, at the flashback from the Purelake, Dalinar sees a female Shardbearer glowing red at the joints, though a white glow comes from her skin later. White glow = diamond = the Edgedancers' stone? Or does the red glowing at the joints indicate a Dustbringer? "...stepping through the water with uncanny ease, as if it had no purchase on her". If that's Abrasion, it could be either Order, correct?

BASICALLY...with Brandon having confirmed that a Radiant's eye color does correspond to his/her Order...can we assume that the color the plate and its glyphs glow will be the same color as their eyes and other generally glowy features? Windrunners seem to be pretty indisputably blue/sapphire.

Sorry for the lengthy post; I know we can only do so much until we get another book, but if at all possible, I'd love to be as accurate as we have the information for. Thanks in advance for anything you've got for me! :)

This is correct, as far as we know. Topaz is associated with Stonewards, which leads to glowing amber armor and tan-colored eyes. The knight that Dalinar sees was using a Regrowth fabrial, presumably like Nalan does at the end of WoR. (Note that this is not 100% confirmed, but it would be incredibly weird for it to be wrong.)

The Edgedancers are associated with diamonds, and so presumably would have glowing white armor, though I'm unsure on the eyes. Take a look at the Surgebinding chart here: http://omnia-fortunae-commito.tumblr.com/post/79001465674/updated-annotated-surgebinding-chart-spoilers

You can cross-reference this with the chart in the Ars Arcanum at the back of WoR to get more associations. The numbers start at 1 for the Windrunners, and go clockwise, ending at 10 for the Bondsmiths.

(As one final note to basically cast doubt on this entire post: the Edgedancers being associated with diamonds makes little to no sense, and they should, in my mind, probably be associated with emeralds. Wyndle is green, darnit.)

Yes but he has white cristals growing from him.

Althought, if we assume spren apparences are related to the orders gemstone, something I find unlikely, so how we deal with Ym's spren, wich looked like growing plants made of golden light?

You might actually want to email Brandon about this

Questioner

Is there any reference material for doing cosplay?

Brandon Sanderson

It depends on the costume that you want to make. We have lots for The Stormlight Archive, less for other books. So if you want reference material for Stormlight costumes you can write us and we'll send you the concept art we are using.

Ym was a Truthwatcher, and his spren was essentially growing light (not gold). As I noted, this would fit the Truthwatchers being associated with diamond/lucentia. Lucentia even means some variant of "shine" in Latin. However, Edgedancers are associated with emerald/plants/pulp, and Edgedancers are associated with diamonds/lucentia/glass. Seems to me that they should be swapped.

Syl likes to be blue, and Windrunners are associated with sapphires. Pattern breaks the pattern, but I expect we'll see it as a general pattern. I've written more on Nahel spren appearances here. To avoid derailing the thread, we might want to discuss it more in a new thread.

Adolin's Edgedancer Blade is naturally blue and it has crystals embedded within, not diamond... I am unsure if the colors are so picture perfect for the orders... except when it comes to eye color... I am absolutely not an expert on the subject though, but apparently an Edgedancer Blade can have a different color than white or green, if they are indeed swapped.

Thanks, everyone! Some good points there, and I think we'll take a whack at e-mailing Brandon, too, just in case.

In the meantime, we've got a ways to go on our Shardblades...so we'll keep on researching while tackling these guys.
