Does the Glyph of Rending* have anything to do with Rending**?

*Makes Chalklings able to affect objects

**Turns people into Epics

I haven't read The Rithmatist, but I do know that the Rending doesn't turn people into Epics.

It's just used to reference the moment an Epic first receives their powers, goes briefly insane, and destroys/murders anyone and anything in their path.

Given that the two stories take place in entirely different universes/continuities I'd say that the only connection is that Brandon seems to like the word rending.

I'm actually convinced that many similarities between the Cosmere and the Reckonersverse are nothing more than Easter eggs for Brandon's more die-hard fans. It could be that he intentionally used Rending in both Rithmatist and Reckoners to give fans of both a sort of "Aha!" moment.

It's probably just because the 'glyph of making chalk touch stuff' wasn't as pithy.
