Arook he/him
So Chaos was kind and removed the Cosmere tag that I added to the footer of one of my user pages and I was wondering if there were any other things I'm not supposed to add to pages? Also are there things I should make sure my pages have?
Joe ST he/him
We tend to try and keep categories and templates off of user pages (aka your sandbox pages) and we have a pretty standardized footer to our articles so try not to change those. Really though, anything goes, and if something doesn't then we will come and chat with you. Thank you for contributing
Arook he/him
So do the wiki admins get notified when I change anything also what does the move tag do?
Chaos he/him
We use Recent Changes to track every change, and on the moderator side, every non-mod who edits has a red exclamation mark on each edit, which means we "patrol" it. That way, we try to keep up to date on these things. The move tag? This? The tags on the top of articles are to keep track of what editors need to do, and keep a "pulse" on the huge quantity of articles on the wiki. See Editor's Corner. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings, we've been updating documentation recently and I dealt with categorization, so I was like "okay, I'm going to fix that now" Please let me know if I can help.
Arook he/him
It does not hurt my feelings to have you fix a mistake that I made. I'm just happy to be able to contribute. So what tags I'm I ok to place and remove? Stub tags are a no no for removal but what else. Sorry weirywriter
Joe ST he/him
no need to apologise for not knowing what should be left alone. really it's best if everything under the '== Notes ==' header is left alone, and the same goes for all the {{}} things at the top of the page/sections. All of the rest of the things are good for changing. I would hesitate against removing things in general though, and if you're rewriting a section make sure to not lose any of the references tags. Move them around to make sense with your new prose, but try not to remove them. Replacing {{cite}}, {{dispute}} and {{clarify}} tags with {{ref}} tags and/or better prose is encouraged if you ever come across them, and they will be reviewed with a little more scrutiny than other changes. Thanks again for your contributions
WeiryWriter he/him
So I guess I should actually write this post about why we have these rules (or something like that) that I've been meaning to write since you started this thread... Not putting info/navboxes (these are the {{thing}} that go at the top and bottom of pages) on User pages: Those things automagically categorize pages for us. That means whenever a page has {{character}} at the top the page is put into Category: Characters and when you put {{stormlight}} at the bottom of a page it goes in to Category: Stormlight. The issue with that is not only are the categories used for navigation but they are also used for the site statistics that show up in the Editor's Corner (which Chaos linked). Deleting the {{stub}} tag: So basically (almost) every article on the Coppermind has a tag based on it's completeness (stub/partial/complete). These are, again, important for statistical reasons. Once you become a more experienced editor changing the tags (i.e. upping stub to partial) is no big deal (it's easy enough to switch back if the admins disagree) just don't get rid of it entirely. The one thing that is strictly for the admins is the {{complete|reviewed=yes}} tag. As for other things you should know... I can't really think of anything, this will all be kind of a learning experience but if you do anything wrong we'll fix it and let you know.
Arook he/him
Would the admins be OK with me updating the wiki template pages for some of those with that information?
