Chaos
Merry Christmas to all of you! I got Towers of Midnight and Alcatraz 4, of my Brandon-related gifts. Alcatraz 4 was hilarious.

Andrew the Great
*Is Jealous* Though admittedly, I got some Pratchett, so I'm quite excited, and I couldn't get any of Brandon's other stuff, because I already had them all. Dan's stuff is on the to-be-read list somewhere.
CrazyRioter
I bought a signed copy of Mistborn 2 for my dad. From my dad I received two Codex Alera books and 2 Dresden Files books. My dad wants to read the latter. I got him addicted to the Dresden Files as well as Sanderson.
leinton
I would like it known (as a geography major, I'm picky about these things) that it's the DECEMBER solstice, not the winter solstice. It's summer in the southern hemisphere, after all. Also, I got a $50 gift card for Barnes and Noble. It's gonna be fun trying to figure out what to spend it on. Eerongal
I would like it known (as a geography major, I'm picky about these things) that it's the DECEMBER solstice, not the winter solstice. It's summer in the southern hemisphere, after all. Are you sure about that? ive only ever heard it called the winter solstice (along with the summer, midwinter, and midsummer solstice) including in an academic setting (and a quick search of wikipedia also lists it as the "winter solstice"). Afterall, you have to remember that almost everything that has a name was originally decided by more primitive, north-of-the-equator highly bigoted zealous religious-types, who didnt really care about technicalities. leinton
I'm entirely sure of this. My teachers are all very insistent on this point. And get mad at us if we say winter/summer solstice or spring/fall equinox. It's a fairly recent renaming, I'm guessing. Places like Australia just being all like "hey it's not winter down here!" probably.

Places like Australia just being all like "hey it's not winter down here!" probably. But june/december solstice can be just as confusing, depending on where you're at, because not all cultures use a helio-centric calendar (such as the hebrew calendar) meaning it doesnt happen in the same month every year. Googling it really quick turns up those only in the context of "alternate" names to the more popular winter/summer. Along with "northern" and "southern" solstice, which are honestly probably the best/most accurate names if you ask me. Note that, in all reality, i dont particularly care about the name (to quote Shakespeare: What's in a name?) it's just that, to me, it seems like theyre just picking a non-mainstream selection and trying to drive its point home to their students out of simple bore-headishness, and im certainly by no means an expert on the subject. All i remember is from geography classes taken back in highschool and pre-highschool days, along with quick google searches
