I believe it was the Gleeman who brought it up in early April, IIRC.

Ooh, I like that! Maybe there could be an Epic that can manipulate dreams who never was powerful, but when combined with Soulcaster, he became a referee for the battles and is the one responsible for designing the arenas, and if he is bribed or if Soulcaster wants someone to win, he'll turn the arena to their favor.

I need to wrap up Freq's story, but that won't be too hard, and actually, Shattered Logic and McKeedee, I think he and Canis could run into both of your Epics if you'd like them to join him. Aonar and I also need to wrap up Edgerunner and Frostfire, but that's simple enough.

One note though: Remember how I said that I'd be gone for three weeks of June? Well, that starts next Monday. So anything I can't get done before Sunday will likely have to wait a while. I can set up stipulations for a few of the characters and maybe designate a couple of substitute writers for a couple if necessary. But I probably won't miss a whole bunch of the story, considering our timing.

Me!

That should be okay. Hopefully we can get to the point where Rainmaker and Hypnos scene can happen before you get back. I'll get things prepared as much as possible.

On the topic of a new location, I am of the opinion that we need one, potentially two. I like the idea of a minimal plot, maximum action thread, as it provides a good place for newcomers to join if they don't want to put in the effort to read the entirety of a thread to know what's happening. I also think we need a new location for mid-tier Epics. This would remove some of the pressure from the Dalles and could provide a more action oriented location than Corvallis. As for the city, it sounds like Salem is the chosen one? I saw Eugene mentioned, and I was going to suggest avoiding it for now, as it's the last "large" city in Oregon to pick from that is relatively isolated from the others.

Comatose, have you heard anything from Venture Mistborn? I saw you mentioned that you PMed him, in addition to my post, and I'm beginning to feel a bit guilty since he has yet to respond. I really didn't intend to sound abrasive or insulting.

VM is in contact with me. Inhuman can be added in after the Converter fight is done. Sorry for the short post. My internet is down so I am on my phone. I can respond to this more comprehensively later of this is not sufficient.

Kobold, would Vondra have certain restrictions on the Springfield bar? Would he limit how much or what types of alcohol was served? And would he maintain the 21+ rule?

Good question. I can't think of any specific beverage restrictions that might be in place--I imagine it serves whatever it can brew or trade for. There'd probably be mandatory community service for any minors caught purchasing drinks or committing other such misdemeanors, and City Guard regulations would prohibit Epics or other operatives from overindulging in heavy drink.

I think beer and whiskey would probably be two of their main beverages—they're brewed from hops or wheat and corn respectively, which could be grown on the surrounding farms. Reader's wine is likely an exception to the rule.

You know, I haven't put much thought into the surrounding farms. Would there be anyone assigned to managing The Dalles' agriculture? I guess Arsenal would work to make sure farmers had access to whatever equipment they needed, as well as the means to contact the City Guard in the event of wandering Epics or bandits.

If anyone was assigned to managing those farms, I doubt it would be an Epic. Arsenal would likely be called upon to supply the farmers with equipment, but it seems unlikely that Vondra would entrust something as vital as an entire city's food supply to an Epic. Florist might be asked to ensure crops grow the way they should and keep away pests, but aside from that, he'd probably want as little Epic intervention as possible—save for what was absolutely vital to protect those farms. Vanilla soldiers would probably be deployed to watch the borders and ensure both crops and farming families were safe.

On another note, he'd probably treat farmers extremely well. Maybe not as well as they're treated in, say, Shinovar, but I can't see farmers being looked down upon when the city's survival could very well hinge on the success of their crops and how comfortable their families are. I'm imagining teens and children being sent out to work the fields either alone or alongside their parents, all to ensure the crops are well tended.

Just reading the thread tags and trying to remember, did we ever come up with a pony and/or Epic power for Shia Labeouff?

well I remember a joke post someone made where Shia had an axe and regeneration and his weakness was the Shia Labeouff song

Why is this not a setting yet? An epic fighting ring (likely run by a more powerful epic forcing less powerful ones or paying them to fight) could be a great setting, especially for people who are less interested in plot and mostly just want to write about epic battles.

Don't get me wrong, the marital idea is fun too... I guess.

that sounds really cool

On that note I've wanted to set up a town with my OP Epic Soulcaster in charge and he can remove peoples consciousness from their bodies so he could let Epics fight it out on an astral plain without unnecessary death since I think any Epic dictator wouldn't just kill of Epics for sport.

also really cool. and some arenas could be more complex, like mazes and labyrinths filled with weird dream-creatures and traps.

Salem is more a city than a town, though that could be an advantage, what with ample room for storage and multiple abandoned homes to give out as prizes.

and the whole salem-witch association makes Soulcaster a fitting inhabitant.

although if we are concerned about the number of Epics we have, maybe we should set this elsewhere?

What if Soulcaster does not hold fights between willing candidates? What if he teleports around, ambushing Epics, stealing their consciousnesses and forcing them to fight for his amusement? So there isn't any single location, just Soulcaster and his personal fortress somewhere, making Epics from all over the FSA or the world fight it out for him.

Out of interest, who here has actually read everything related to the RP?

mostly, although I've only read the first few and last few pages of Portland.

Wow, I just realized that it would suck for the entire planet if Sunspot and Obliteration became friends...

haha would it worry you if I told you we are planning on bringing Obliteration here at some point?

Do you think we'll get to Hypno's scene this week or should we wait until I get back?

I would love for this to happen, but it depends on how fast we can wrap things up with Converter.  Silver has been kind of busy lately it seems, so unless there's all of a sudden time to get the Converter situation wrapped up, Rainmaker won't be free to post with Hypno.

We could potentially do a collab in a google doc or something, and I could post it.  I don't have a lot of blocks of free time though, since I have five articling job interviews this week, and a firm reception.  If you like this option, I could start a google doc and get things going, and then we can see how far we get.

So sounds like WHIS is good to go, I'd love to include things like weird dream creatures but I think allowing him to create new consciousness from nothing wouldn't quite fit. Perhaps he forces Vanillas into the dream but gives them twisted or bestial dream-bodies to compensate for their lack of powers?

So could a brony actually become his pony OC if brought into the dream?

Theoretically? Yes.

Practically? He'd probably turn them into a centaur with one arm instead.

Decapitation, actually. :P

Different Salem. Salem, Massachusetts is the one with the Salem Witch Trials. Salem, Oregon, was named after the one in MA.

Do you really think your reasonable explanation will stop a dim-witted Epic who flunked all her history classes from founding the Second Coven there? :P

Leaving Backtrack as the only one who can show them the error of their ways!!!

Or he could just sit quietly in a corner and pretend they're right.

Does she look like this?

He'd ask them why they're witches if the witch hunts didn't happen there.

If Twi's correct, then he'd be met with this response. :P

So some thoughts on Salem:
I think one of the main prizes on offer is that Soulcaster can give victors their own little piece of Astral realm to rule over, molding it into whatever the victor chooses and filling it with dreaming Vanillas.

That being said I think I might include my group of fire Epics among the gladiators.

The Fires of Heaven

Veritati: Former priest obsessed with finding ‘heretics’, he believes that Epics are the Nephillim of the bible, sons and daughters of fallen angels who lay with human women. While his ability to control fire is almost non-existent he can cause almost any object in his field of view to burst into flames. His wounds passively heal whenever they are engulfed in fire, and if conscious he will instinctively ignite any part of his body that is wounded, causing it to heal.

Fallen Phoenix: Teleporter capable of appearing in a burst of flame. He can also create lasting portals between any two fires, the fires will burn cold for the duration of the portaling effect, causing no damage to any objects transported through them.

Hellfire: Can produce a black flame from his hands which is impossible to extinguish, the fire will burn until the next dawn or dusk. Hellfire can also use this fire to scry the future somewhat, able to foresee any sources of danger to him until the coming dawn/dusk.

Tartaros: Can summon fiery demonic beasts, these beasts are generally inclined to obey his orders but are not bound to do so and possess their own free will. He can to a degree choose the form of the beasts he summons.

Antiflame: Produces purple flames with temporal restorative powers, capable of reversing the time of any non-living thing they touch.

BurnHeart: Capable of manifesting empathic flames in addition to a more normal variety, these flames can force certain emotional states on his victim as he burns them as well as revealing insight into their minds.

Firewall: Can increase the heat within a prescribed plane to extraordinarily high levels, enough to instantly vaporize most materials.

Tripmine: Can mentally cause any object he has touched to explode.

Jetpack: Can shoot blasts of fire from both hands which provides enough thrust to lift his body. (Fire version of the Spyril)

Now that is a prize. I can definitely see that attracting Epics looking for a bit more luxury than they can scrounge up for themselves in a post-apocalyptic world.

(Like a certain former figurine collector, perhaps?)

On the downside it almost certainly means there will be quite a bit of mentally scarring scenes if those areas are ever explored.

Imagine what it would look like if Deathwish could manifest his desires upon the world. Imagine what would happen if Nighthounds dreams were real...

Suddenly I don't want to do WHIS anymore.

It's okay. Every time those two or anyone else on the ATTD List gets within a mile of Salem, the entire city appears as a wasteland to them. No matter how long they spend there, they'll never see another soul.

You can thank Moral Guardian later.

You know the anime settings where all the women are ridiculously over-endowed and attractive?

That'd be Deathwish's Perfect State. -_-

On the bright side, I don't think anyone would object to seeing what Voidgaze's Perfect State looks like...:P

Amusingly since Soulcaster probably couldn't be bothered to hunt down just women but he can change peoples astral appearance about half of those over-endowed women would in fact be men. Which is either hillarious or creeptastic. Probably both like most of WHIO.

Veritati for instance would have his own personal dominion which is basically just a burning castle, his own personal hell for torturing Vanillas. I hope never to show it.

I'm just waiting on Mail mi to finish up with Timeport before I skip to the MoNA attack, might just do it anyway and have a slight continuity problem  though if he's not feeling up to it.

Other than that that all looks right.

I'll do that now.

I can't decide. Do we send Deathwish to a place where all the women are really men for the sole purpose of springing it on him later....or keep him far away for the same of our own sanity?

And just like that, Vertati winds up on the ATTD List without a single post to his name. :o
