Edgedancer he/him Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I'm good, does that mean it's tomorrow in Astoria now? Probably between them Bioterror the Metal and Deathgale could probably knock out the entire country in a week or two if they felt like it. It's night time in the Dalles at the morning so maybe s/he can enter into the city tomorrow? Not quite. There's proably going to be one more post from Sirce after my next one and that should finish up the day. Even faster if they take Brigthdeath with them for transporation. Uh, just how common are these guys? I don't want to be too unoriginal. Typically it would be a general flash, though I think emitting beams of light from his hands might be cool to do also. In the RP, not very. There's one Epic that can create solid light and then some that can make some minor light manipulation like making objects more Shiny. The closes would probably be Glamour in the Dalles: Glamour: A light-controlling Epic, twenty years old and formerly named Wilbert Abners. His ability to manipulate photons makes him a mild illusionist, capable of making himself or others invisible, blinding targets with bright lights, and casting simple and low-resolution illusions.
Shattered he/him Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Alright, so I have a solid base for creating Sunspot, and he's going to show up in the Dalles. So, what do I do next?
Haelbarde he/him Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Hey, spoiler tags are a good idea. Maybe I'll go edit. And yes, I specifically thought of you when I saw that storefront. 1
Edgedancer he/him Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Alright, so I have a solid base for creating Sunspot, and he's going to show up in the Dalles. So, what do I do next? Write up a profile with his name, powers and all the other information you think is interesting, post it here, send the GMs the weakness (or make it puplic if you want to) and wait for some feedback, I suppose.
Mailliw73 he/him Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Welcome, Shattered Logic. They already gave you summaries, thrice , so I'll just say welcome! Sunspot looks pretty cool, but Glamour might feel offended. Really though, I think they'd be a nice addition.
Voidus Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 (edited) Alright, so I have a solid base for creating Sunspot, and he's going to show up in the Dalles. So, what do I do next? Usually we ask people to post a profile here for feedback before they appear in game, it can be as simple as their list of powers but information like their appearance and personality is always great to have too. After that just post an introduction for them in the thread featuring them entering town/killing some pandas. Might help to give the Dalles thread a bit of a read through to know what's been happening. Edited May 25, 2015 by Voidus
Mailliw73 he/him Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 The pandas are all gone now, so I wouldn't recommend that. If you want sunspot to arrive at night, now's a good time. If you want to wait until morning, we should get there pretty soon. Like a day or two.
Shattered he/him Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 (edited) Okay, here goes. Epic Profile Epic Name: Sunspot Actual Name: Richard Burke Height: 6 feet Hair: Blond Eyes: Yellow (changed by Epic transformation) Build: Epic normal (increased by the Epic transformation but otherwise unspectacular) Power(s): Capable of emitting flashes of sunlight (UV and visible light) from his entire body or just concentrated from his hands. He can adjust the intensity of of the light, making him capable of simply seeing in the dark, blinding people, or even melting most objects. If he focuses, he can create an aura of light around him that can melt potentially harmful stuff (like bullets), but cannot keep this up indefinitely. He's still vulnerable to energy attacks and the like when he does this. Secondary power of basically being immune to anything resembling his own powers (can see fine through intense light and is essentially immune to heat [the heat thing can be edited if that's too overpowered]) Personality: Naturally introverted, though in some situations or with some people this might not hold true. He uses his powers frequently, so he does have all the standard Epic characteristics of arrogance and sociopathy. He likes to show off his powers (he's 'flashy.' *badum tss*) Does this seem good so far? Anything I need to add? EDIT: Which specific people do I need to PM with his weakness? Edited May 25, 2015 by Shattered Logic 2
Voidus Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Looks great to me and I don't think heat resistance is a problem.Weaknesses should be PM'd to Twilyght

Does he need to focus his light for some time to achive greater heat or can he just blast that much heat out immediately? It's instantaneous. EDIT: logically, when he's not doing a focused burst from his hands, the heat factor has a diminished range because it's not as concentrated. Edited May 25, 2015 by Shattered Logic

EDIT: logically, when he's not doing a focused burst from his hands, the heat factor has a diminished range because it's not as concentrated. Alrighty. By the way, we collect the profiles of our characters over in the "Epics of Oregon" thread, so we can find them better for reference. Could you post his there as well, please?

Edgedancer he/him Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 No problem. So, I'm going to read through some of the Dalles thread, but is there anything essential I need to know? Government run by Vanillas, was attacked by religously fanatic pandamutants lead by an Epic that turned himself into a panda that have retreated for the day and Epic cultists (not related to each other) and for inexplicable reasons there are a lot of new Epics that came into town today.

That's why I keep insisting that Metronome is the most powerful Epic in the world, he's the reason Epics all time their arrivals like that. 1
Shattered he/him Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Okay, I looked into the thread, and I am so lost. I read the beginning, with K-something-person-I-can't-spell-the-name-of, and then skipped ahead, but I still have no idea how to enter. I have no setting descriptions to work from that I've seen. Help? Maybe if I could set up a character meeting with someone else so that I'm not just wandering aimlessly? 1

Well, the first post is a flashback from Koschei the Deathles', who is now death, perspective, so I can see why that would throw you off. A character meeting should make for a good start... I would ask if you have someone specific in mind but you still don't really know any of the characters, do you? Edited May 25, 2015 by Edgedancer

Blackhoof Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Firefight Spoilers: I was thinking more about Regalia's weakness, and I find it interesting that her desire not to trigger it seems to filter down into how she exploits Newton's weakness. You'll notice when David triggers the weakness, he calls Newton beautiful, which is a highly subjective compliment. I'm not sure if insincere compliments would work to trigger Newton's weakness, or if David actually found her beautiful, but the point is that beauty is something very easy to be disagreed upon. When Regalia triggers the weakness on the other hand, her compliments are far more objective, focusing on the benefit Newton's service and work is to her, and how useful Newton is. Newton's utility and value in her role are objectively a more defensible criteria to compliment her on, and thus more difficult to contradict. I can't remember off hand what Obliteration said, but I find the contrast between David and Regalia at least to be very interesting. Obliteration complimented her skill with the sword, saying he admired it. Of the people around the Metal, do any of you still want to react to him or can I remove him from the scene for the transition? I also just realized that Astoria probably has enough powerful Epics to fill the quota of most of the FSA. well there are about a dozen PI's among them, the same number in Newcago, so they fulfill the quota for a few states is all No, I really don't. I'd recommend reading all the pages, it is really the only way to get a good idea of what is going on. once you have, decide what the best position for him is- member of the city guard, hostile newcomer, friendly newcomer, etc.

I just meant it in a "alright, let's get you settled" sort of way, not a "that's unoriginal" sort of way, if that makes any sense. I can say that sort of stuff because I'm totally a veteran here. I've made 2 posts, already! I suppose I was reminded of Glamour, though. Anyway I'll write you a pretty detailed synopsis of The Dalles as soon as I get back from work. In the meantime, let me reassure you that I wasn't joking about the thread taking 11 hours to read. The story itself isn't that complicated, but it's told from like, 20 different perspectives. In the meantime, let me reassure you that I wasn't joking about the thread taking 11 hours to read. The story itself isn't that complicated, but it's told from like, 20 different perspectives. True, if this was an actual book the pace could be quite a bit tighter by cutting/combining some of the viewpoints for every given scene, which I suppose would make Autumn the major PoV character of the topic. Anyway, here's Kobold's more or less offical summary for the location. Although it's more of a plot synopsis lacking most of the recent developments. Two years before the action of the RP, an Epic named Koschei the Deathless attacked The Dalles. Koschei was a healer, capable of healing others from any wound. However, once he'd healed a wound he could cause the same injury to reappear at any time. Koschei gathered a gang of Epics and began brutally murdering countless people, using his power to practically raise them from the dead and demand their loyalty. Koschei managed to completely gain control of The Dalles, wresting control from the National Guard unit stationed there. He began rule as a ruthless dictator, plotting to take over the whole of Oregon. Before his plans could be fully realized, however, a normal man named Remington Springfield discovered his weakness. Springfield shot and killed Koschei in a stand-off that has become legendary in part because of its significance, and in part because no one knows for sure what happened during their battle. Remington Springfield became a folk hero, but he quietly left the city to live with his in-laws in Portland. With Koschei dead, the National Guard moved back into town, and the commander of the unit declared martial law over the city. This commander was named Stephen Vondra. Vondra had no powers himself, but he and his soldiers managed to gain secure control over The Dalles. This control is maintained in part by the small team of Epics employed by the Guard, who are prohibited from using their powers while not on active duty. The corruption still manifests in these Epics, but as of yet all members of this team have remained loyal. There are other factions afoot in The Dalles, however. The Epic Quicksilver is a former hitman with the ability to manipulate metal, which he has used to devastating effect countless times. Fortunately Quicksilver has little desire to rule, and instead reigns as the king of the city's criminal underground. His gang is known as the Slivers, who are widely feared and hated in the city. For two years an uneasy peace has existed in The Dalles, but at the current time a chaotic and unpredictable element has been inserted. The city has been invaded by the Panda, an Epic with the power to control any organic matter. He is also afflicted with the delusional belief that he's been tasked by "The Radiant Panda" to create a utopia for panda bears--which he intends to accomplish by eradicating human settlements and filling them with his creations. He leads armies of once-ordinary men who have been mutated into horrendous panda-human hybrids, which wield wooden weapons created by their dark master. The Panda's armies run rampant through The Dalles as we speak, opposed by Vondra's Epic teams and a handful of newcomers to the city's political scene. The city stands at an important crossroads of its history--will Vondra succeed in creating a utopia for normal humans, freed from the widespread tyranny of Epics? Will the Panda take the city as his own, ruling not just the lives but the very flesh and blood of its inhabitants? Or will the city be torn asunder by the conflict? Well, that's the Question, isn't it? Edited May 25, 2015 by Edgedancer
18th Shard he/him Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Sunspot looks great. Good job! As I mentioned earlier from my phone, though I was somewhat pressed for time, I'm thinking of switching Jumpdrive and the Ghost in location. The Ghost would fit in Astoria, I feel, perhaps as one of Azrael's minions. Jumpdrive's original government assistance makes more sense in Corvallis, and would be more interesting. I still might have him betray the government, but only to a vanilla rebellion.

Blackhoof Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 (edited) I like Sunspot. Interesting that this newcomer is the only one that is immediately hostile, other than the cultists and pandas. And while he has little defensive abilities, the ability to basically blind anyone who looks at him is infinitely useful. Edited May 25, 2015 by Blackhoof
Edgedancer he/him Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I like Sunspot. Interesting that this newcomer is the only one that is immediately hostile, other than the cultists and pandas. Which is probably a whole lot more realistic than most other entries in the town, to be honest. I also name just standing around until something happens the new universal masterplan. 2
