Cumulus she/her Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 I know that Rashidum are not your standard equine and only "chosen ones" can gain their trust, but the descriptions are rather vauge and intriguing. Can someone give me some good insight?
Cumulus she/her Posted April 16, 2015 Author Posted April 16, 2015 I am so sorry I accidentally downvoted you, how do I undo that
natc Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Well, it was a joke. They seem to be able to handle lifting shardplate fine, so they're probably related to the Knights Radiant if only in the fact that the Knights used them as mounts. What actually created the species is the more difficult question. No horse has any right being that buff. 1
Arook he/him Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 My understanding besides being bigger overall they look like a horse. In addition to their size they are sapient to some extent. Also check out the Coppermind. http://coppermind.net/wiki/Ryshadium

Arook he/him Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Well the implication is that shin animals are normal animals and that Ryshadium are sometimes mistaken for normal horses. Although all birds are called chickens.
Cumulus she/her Posted April 16, 2015 Author Posted April 16, 2015 I am going to check now but it seems like I remembdr them being described with stone like skin. I am checking now.
Young Bard he/him Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Ryshadiums are really sticks in disguise. Duh... Just a joke guys...
Bort he/him Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 My personal belief is that Ryshadiums are in fact horses that have been Cultivated.
Left he/him Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I think there's been theorizing that, much like greatshells, Ryshadium possibly form bonds with spren which give them their super-normal abilities.
AndrewStirlingMacDonald he/him Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Ah, fantasy horses... http://www.clickhole.com/blogpost/when-i-started-writing-game-thrones-i-didnt-know-w-292 1
Meg Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 (edited) Horse ==|== horse. So the real question is: What type or race of horse is "normal" to the Rosharians? Aside from that question I personally think that horses (or dogs or cats etc) are sentient and more or less sapient, too. edit: And I'm sure they are special, anyway BS said there is Investiture involved. Cumulus she/her Posted April 16, 2015 Author Posted April 16, 2015 So the real question is: What type or race of horse is "normal" to the Rosharians? yes, I suppose so... I think they are certianly sentient, but I was just curious if there was a physical description.

That would be interesting, but most defiantly have some kind of investiture active in their biology. 1
Elsecaller3414 she/her Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I think the "normal" horses on Roshar are what you would find here or in Shinovar. Ryshadium horses seem to be at the large end of the horse spectrum, so maybe the normal ones are the more average size here. It also seems to be that the horses bond to a person for life. Gallant had a difficult time letting Adolin ride him, and even after relenting at Dalinar's request, the horse was distrustful of his rider. Ryshadium are also very loyal, as it can be shown at the end of the Way of Kings and Words of Radiance.
Cumulus she/her Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 (edited) I am familiar with horses, simply by happenstance. Appilusa and Quarter Horse are large breeds but wherein lies the distinction of species? Are they large equine or blow your mind magnificent chisled specimen? Edited April 17, 2015 by SouthernStorm 1
Elsecaller3414 she/her Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I am probably not as familiar with horses as you are, but I do know that Shallan is 5 feet 6 inches and she only comes up to the shoulder of a Ryshadium. I don't exactly know how that fits in, but it seems pretty large to me.
Cumulus she/her Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 (edited) I thought Shallan describes herself as 5 '2. Anyway it does not matter, I am 5' 1 and because I live in the south I have seen horses and holy rust... They are huge!!! If it is 5'6 at the shoulder then count me out... Elsecaller3414 she/her Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 (edited) I am 5'3 myself, so I kind of understand the feeling. If you have read WoR, then it says Shallan's height, while she is trying to get details for shardblades and plate. I don't remember exactly where that is, but before the middle, for certain. Don't ask me why I remember it, because frankly, I don't know, either. Edited April 17, 2015 by Elsecaller3414
Cumulus she/her Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 I remember her describing it, and herself. Maybe because I am tiny and it has been so long I imagine her smaller. Do you think they have fur or more crocidillian skin? For some reason I see them with a reptillian look.
Elsecaller3414 she/her Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Maybe they have both. On some mammals, the hair looks like scales, like on a pangolin. Its plates are actually made of the same stuff as hair. So... maybe they have the crocodilian look, but with more mammalian genetics. I don't know.
Dhavaer Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I thought Shallan describes herself as 5 '2. Anyway it does not matter, I am 5' 1 and because I live in the south I have seen horses and holy rust... They are huge!!! If it is 5'6 at the shoulder then count me out... I think Shallan comes off as shrimpy because she hangs out with a lot of Alethi, who are apparently huge. So you get the impression that Shallan is a shorter than average woman and Jasnah is taller than average, but actually Shallan is average and Jasnah is about six foot or so.
