Hey Joe would you mind if Longshot survived his fall through the collapsing building and developed a longstanding rivalry with Murphy?

I think I'd enjoy having a Wile Coyote to play with in increasingly absurd circumstances :P

I love it. I love it I love it I love it.

Hi. Sorry to interrupt anything. I was just wondering if I could join the Dallas RPG. I have some Epics in mind that I've been toying with and would love to see them in action. Thanks!

Another one. We might need a fourth city to RP in. This is getting pretty crowded.

That's not necessarily a bad idea. If we get very many more people, The Dalles will be completely overrun--I'm already having trouble keeping up with everybody there.

Great! :D Feel free to include random occurrences like mysterious explosions or collapsing buildings in Murphy's posts as a reference and I'll try to work out the story behind them. It would be a good writing exercise actually.

Probably because whenever we open a new city we all just make new characters there rather than leaving it open for newer players so they're just as full :P

Well, I'm pretty much limited now to the characters already in play in Portland or The Dalles, so I wouldn't be able to join any new thread. So there's be no worry of me filling it up, at least.

Same here. Until more of my characters get killed off, I wouldn't join this new city. No matter how much I want to.

There aren't any of you waiting for me, are there?

I stopped trying to. I have absolutely no idea what is going on in the Dalles. I know there are Panda's, and Talyor swift and Another teleporter named Shiny who is kidnapping and dating Vanilla females.

That's one of the reasons I don't have a character in the Dalles.

All you need to know is that Edgerunner just slapped and pantsed Reader. That's the only important thing. :P

The sad thing is, he doesn't know enough about Reader to appreciate how awesome that is. :(:P

Unfortunately my Compulsion to create new Epics often overrides my sense.

Another thread for new players isn't a bad idea, actually. I think we'd need to hash out the logistics a bit more—where will it be, what's the political climate, who will be joining, etc.—but Astoria and The Dalles might be at risk of being overrun.

Just a sudden thought—what if we opened up Dallesport? Shiny Sparkle's intro established that it's not affiliated with The Dalles, and while it's close enough that she knew about Koschei, it's distanced enough that she didn't know all the details. So what if we made Dallesport a thread and let new players cross over to The Dalles once things get a bit less crowded?

Voidus, did you see that just there? You just capitalized Compulsion.

Go, boy! Go make some more epics!  :P

Thats an awesome powerset, but Sandman has pretty much an identical powerset of inducing sleep and controlling dreams. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, since I was waiting for the MEE attack on The MoNA.

I see the differences and similarities.  I thought there was some sort of dream epic, but could not remember the specifics.  Sleepwalker would not be able to read thoughts like Sandman, and I could remove the dream manipulation, and just leave the astral projection and the sleep-walker control.  Dreamers would still see Sleepwalkers astral form, and he would be able to communicate with them, but not see their dreams.  Then, while there would be similarities, they would likely be different enough, since the only overlap I see is the forced sleeping.

Even still, I think these two characters will be shelved for the foreseeable future.  I just had ideas and wanted to get them out.

On the new city point, depending on how much time I have, I might be open to coming up with a "government" (if making up an Epic despot and their retinue counts and government) and start a storyline in another city, but I definitely wouldn't be up for it until Summer starts because I'm swamped until then.

EDIT:  I would also second the Dallesport idea!

An interesting idea. Though Dallesport has about a dozenth of the population of The Dalles, and it's located in Washington, not Oregon. Though they're located just six miles away... perhaps Vondra could employ Shiny Sparkle and other new arrivals in town to carve out a new City Guard outpost there? Part of The Dalles' story arc could thus involve the city drawing attention to itself in a desire to expand, and Dallesport could center around invading Epics led by Shiny Sparkle attempting to wrest the city from the Epics that already control it.

As just a random idea off the top of my head, of course. :P

My phone auto correcting it to have a capital should not be taken as an indication that I already have.

If you just want to set up the government's Epics and how they rule, you wouldn't have to take direct control over them. Unless you wanted to, of course.

It sounds like a small town, without much reason for stronger Epics to take it, leaving it to vanillas and Epics at or below Shiny Sparkle's level. Maybe it's run by gangs, some Epic, some vanilla, some mixed, who fight for control? Maybe not having a gang, or not supporting a gang, is as dangerous as antagonizing the wrong one? Maybe Shiny Sparkle left in part because she'd grown sick of all the gang wars and wanted to see what the other side of the river had to offer?

Also, TheSilverDragon wanted me to post this. We did ransom notes in English class, and this is what he did:

I might be open to either option (more likely where I world build but don't take control, lol), but right now I have time for neither.

The idea of expanding The Dalles plot into Dallesport has the added benefit of allowing some overflow epics from The Dalles, which might become overcrowded, to move into a new plot line (like what happened with Backtrack and Co. when moving from Portland to The Dalles).

The changes sound good to me. We've got a bazillion teleporter epics, a mere two with sleep abilities is hardly an issue. They could team up and form the Ultimate Dream-Team! (ba-dum-tiissssssssshhhhhhh)

I lost the version of the FUNTIMES list that was on my computer. Is this the newest version of the list?

  1. Can you tell us anything about High Epic despots on the west coast?
  2. Besides Oregon and the cities that Obliteration destroyed, are there any parts of the Fractured States rendered completely uninhabitable?
  3. How long after Calamity's appearance was Oregon destroyed?
  4. What are some of the most common Epic powers?
  5. What is the approximate ratio between normal humans and Epics?
  6. What are the determining factors in an Epic's power level?
  7. Is there a correlation between Epic's past lives and their powers, or are their powers assigned at random?
  8. Are all Epics capable of communicating with Calamity, or was Regalia a special case?
  9. Does Calamity talk to all Epics?
  10. Why has the number of new Epics dropped since Calamity first appeared?
  11. It is strongly implied Conflux faced his fear, but did this remove his weakness as well?
  12. Can a weakness change?
  13. What would happen if an Epic was constantly exposed to his or her weakness?
  14. Does the Epic have to be aware of their weakness for it to affect them? If there was an Epic whose weakness was bodies of water, would his weakness activate if he unknowingly entered the vicinity of a lake?
  15. How many Epics have "unique" powers like Firefight or Mitosis?
  16. Exactly how much and what type of genetic material is required to make a motivator?
  17. How many cells of Reckoners are there, and do they operate globally or strictly in the Fractured States?
  18. When were the Reckoners established?
  19. How many countries didn't pass an equivalent to the Capitulation Act?
  20. Is there anything you can tell us about the Epic named Night's Sorrow,  gender, powers, or area of influence-wise?
  21. Can you tell us anything interesting about the Coven?
  22. Will the Oregon turf wars ever be elaborated on in the novels?
  23. If Vin were an Epic, what would her powers and weakness be?
  24. Is there any chance of you eventually publishing an illustrated guide to Epics as a companion to the Reckoners trilogy?
  25. How many humans were killed before Annexation Day?
  26. Can a specific song become an Epic's weakness?

There'll be a signing on Easter weekend apparently, so I need to get the list posted well ahead of then. (And preferably not on April Fool's Day, lest anyone get the wrong idea. :P)

It's the last version we posted. We later added this one "Would the child of an Epic in any way inherit its parent's epicness?" and altered the last one. Meaning the list looks more like this

  1. Can you tell us anything about High Epic despots on the west coast?
  2. Besides Oregon and the cities that Obliteration destroyed, are there any parts of the Fractured States rendered completely uninhabitable?
  3. How long after Calamity's appearance was Oregon destroyed?

  26. How many humans were killed before Annexation Day?
  27. How simbolic can a weakness be/how strongly must it be connected the root fear.
  28. Is there a reason Dawnslight influence on New York City wasn't public knowledge, given that he appeared a year before Epics, together with Calamity?

Also added something about Dawnslight.

Hey, does anyone remember if we specified who had made the island for the Lost Ones? I checked the old question thread, but I can't find anything. It's not super important, but I'm writing a Lost One post and the though occurred to me.

Also, I'd totally live in Adventurer-land.

Fade-land would only exist sometimes, and Sandman-land would pretty much just be inception.

The-Mad-Ballooner-land would be filled with balloons and outdated stereotypes.

Still the Financier.

Just give him a minor healing PI. :P

"minor" healing isn't a PI. <_<

So for a complete list based only on major characters:

Edge will be a whiny (Lucentia's unmentioned ability) diamond creator with healing, enhanced physical abilities, some mind control abilities the ability to teleport and explode things in sparkles, manipulate blood and create portals with it, resurrect and manipulate white objects and create incredible pressure from the metal.

You forgot, Ray and Deathgale. Calamity I'm OP.:P

Well, I'm pretty much limited now to the characters already in play in Portland or The Dalles, so I wouldn't be able to join any new thread. So there's be no worry of me filling it up, at least.

Yeah, Astoria especially put some strain on my time table. Even though I tecnically have Epics at the ready, but they'll have to wait.

Edge, what did you have for Shiny Sparkle's Dallesport backstory?

"It's not part of Oregon and Shiny Sparkle would just jump all over the place, so who cares."

I like the Dallesport idea.

There could be a place for Iconoclast there too, perhaps, with him arriving in town around the time The Dalles decide to expand into it. He starts ghoulifying people and pretty soon it is a three-way war between the ghouls, the gangs/ruling Epics, and Shiny and co.

Posted

I was actually thinking Iconoclast might be a good fit for Portland, it provides some Vanilla canon fodder, he wouldn't upset the power balance too much, he'd hasten its destruction and it would provide him with an army of Vanillas that he could use to attack the Dalles, Astoria or Dallesport after Portland is destroyed.
