If I ever somehow gained control of a Lifeless, I would change its command phrase to 'command phrase.' Think about it. If someone managed to figure it out, they could control the Lifeless, but they would never be able to change the command phrase. The way to do that is by saying 'I give you a new command phrase: (insert words here).' If, however, the Lifeless responded to 'command phrase,' then when someone attempted to change it, they would simply stop the Lifeless from obeying new commands.

"I give you a new order code."

But would that even work? Lifeless may not recognize the command after the wording is changed, or may interpret it incorrectly.

Someone with a different native tongue could change it with ease once they new the command also I'm sure that synonyms would work for changing command phrases. Being that any language can use commands I'm sure it has more to do with what the command is and how it is pictured not the exact words.

Actually, this is an interesting question.  Can you even command lifeless using a language different from the one they knew as a human?  Sure, lifeless are more efficient using Breath than other Awakenings.  That's partly because they are already very close to the shape of life (duh), but I wonder if you could really get it as low as one breath if they didn't have brains.  After all, the brains give them a lot more flexibility than other awakened things, including the ability to change commands.  Would that be anywhere near as effective if the commands weren't in their native language?

Squirrels don't know common so I don't think it is a factor. I believe it has a lot more to how you picture it not as much what you say. (see Lightsong and the squirrel)

I feel that they are probably endowed with the ability to understand.

Right. Forgot about the squirrel, although I believe Larimar said it wouldn't as well as Light song wanted because it was too stupid. I'll have to read that scene again to see if it sheds light on this.

With this new command phrase, you could tell a LIfeless to go stand in front of a person just staring at them with its dead eyes, and no one would be able to stop you! MUAHAHA!

I read something about this, I think it was in the Warbreaker annotations. How accurate a Lifeless follows commands is related to the skill of the Awakener that makes it. Llarimar was expecting it not to work, as a squirrel brain is quite simple, but it was able to follow Lightsong's commands perfectly because Vasher/Talaxin/Warbreaker is such a skilled Awakener.

I didn't even think about that fact!  You get an up-vote!

Well, I remember it not doing much to the furniture, or otherwise missed a command somewhere down the line.

But yeah, one hell of a squirrel.
