Worldhopper he/him Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Hi, I'm going to be in Utah tomorrow and was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible for a non student to get into the library there and read Brandon's thesis work on Dragonsteel as I can't think of a better way to spend my time other than sneaking in on one of Brandon's lessons. 5
+Slowswift Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I don't know. I'd love to do that myself, actually. Also, hope you like it here. Utah's a great place, even if winter isn't a thing right now. 1
Mailliw73 he/him Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I believe you have to check it out and there's a very long waiting list. I'm not positive though, that's just what I've heard. 1
Worldhopper he/him Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 I guess I can always go and try. May get lucky. 1
Worldhopper he/him Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 Yay, at BYU and they still have a copy available. I have 12 hours to read all this. Couldn't think of a better way to spend my day in Utah. 9
Fedcomic he/him Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Nice! I had heard that the book was stolen, or removed from circulation. Glad to see that it's still out there. Also, you're going to have to post a review for those of us that can't make the trek to the HBLL. 1
Worldhopper he/him Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 Dude I wish I could, but I only had six hours to read that 280,000 beast of a book, and the writing is so small, there was no way to speed read without missing stuff out. I only managed about 80 to 90k before the library closed. Still it was well worth it. You can really see the begins of a lot of things and the style is very similar to that of Elantris. Brandon has made some incredible leaps as a writer since he wrote Dragonsteel, but I can tell that the future book will be really different from his thesis. I wish I could have finished the thing, but it would have taken another two days of reading flat out to finish it, sadly I just didn't have that time. It was well worth it though, almost like a Sanderson pilgramige or something. 6
Newan he/him Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Unless it has changed, his writing class is on Fridays at 5:00 pm in the basement of the JFSB 1
