In my early youth did the Cimmerian shade surround me

Until began  the cerebral song with a great ringing of bells

And came the divine lords of heaven to treat with me.

From that day have I guarded the gates of the thrice blessed paradise,

Preserving the divine by  barring from them all my kin.

Threat to friends called me to edge of the world

Where grim crepuscule shrouded me once more in tenebrous murk.

It's not Taravangian.

"Cimmerian" and "tenebrous" are fancy words for dark, shadowy, hidden, that kind of thing; "crepuscule" means sunset or twilight; and "cerebral" means related to the brain or mind.

I'm guessing "In my youth . . . applies to the darkness caused by a Hemalurgic spike that was used at an early age.

"The cerebral song" is the voice of Ruin.

"The divine lords of heaven" are people that this person looks up to, prrhaps people with divine power- People with a Metalic Art.

The "guarded gates" line could refer to a city that is the crown of the kingdom, continent, or world- Luthadel.

"Preserved the divine. . ." Could refer to the body of a god.

"Threat to friends . . ." Could refer to leaving for the Well of Ascension.

I am thinking this is somebody from Mistborn. I'm guessing Vin or the Lord Ruler. Maybe Marsh or Zane.

Non-Cosmere, huh?

Alcatraz? Prof?

Still no. I actually wrote a longer boast, but only posted part of it because I thought the end was to obvious; here's the original (white text on the second part in case anyone wants to keep trying with just the first part)

No shining gods in this place, but only cringing devils,

Frightened of all save those who licked their boots.

Now I prepare the engines of war and the infinite arsenal of thought,

Praying only that some small scrap of heaven might be saved.

damnation me, it's obvious. It's Jason Write of the Phone Company! Didn't think about that story.

Btw, when I wrote mine I also had the idea for some more lines, But like you I thought it would make it too easy. It seems that it's better to always write everything.

Topomouse got it. I basically wrote a plot summary of "Defending Elysium" with antiquated and grandiloquent phrasing.

Explanation:

In my early youth did the Cimmerian shade surround me

(Jason went blind as a child and has been terrified of darkness ever since.)

Until began  the cerebral song with a great ringing of bells

(He developed the Cytonic ability to perceive color as a kind of humming in his mind; the bells refer to the Northern Bell Phone Company.)

And came the divine lords of heaven to treat with me.

(The Tenasi picked up the Phone company's signal and came to set up relations with Earth through Jason.)

From that day have I guarded the gates of the thrice blessed paradise,

("Defending Elysium"--Elysium is the Greek afterlife for the great and good, sometime referred to as the "Three Isles of the Blessed.")

Preserving the divine by  barring from them all my kin.

(Jason thought of deep space as a paradise and protected it and the pacifist aliens who lived there by denying "violent, barbaric, underdeveloped" humans the ability to go there.)

Threat to friends called me to edge of the world

(He went to Evensong, the farthest outpost of humanity, to rescue a PC scientist.)

Where grim crepuscule shrouded me once more in tenebrous murk.

(He was captured and held in Cytonic suppression, with cut off his Sense and left him in the dark again.)

When a hateful foe lifted the gloom I saw hell;

(Coln, who hates Jason, shorted out the power to the suppressor, giving Jason his Sense back.)

Beneath the fancied face of paradise was blackened Tartarus,

No shining gods in this place, but only cringing devils,

Frightened of all save those who licked their boots.

(Jason learned the horrible price of the "perfect society" of the aliens--they lock away anyone on their planet who disagrees with them, putting the dissidents in Cytonic suppression, which deprives them of their psychic abilities, effectively blinds them, and in many cases eventually drives them mad.)

Now I prepare the engines of war and the infinite arsenal of thought,

(Jason decided to unleash man, with all his terrible war machines, into space; "[...] the sentient mind is infinite," and Jason uses it as a weapon.)

Praying only that some small scrap of heaven might be saved.

(This is a paraphrase of the last line of the story, "Perhaps we can salvage something of paradise.")

Alright Topomouse, your turn again.

Your boast was very good Dankworth, I really liked it.

Now let's see how it will go with mine:

I live in the highest of places.

From there I see how the sky moves,

and I impart my knowledge on all who can hear my world.

But in truth, I am but a shadow.

Not even that, a shadow of another shadow.

And this shadow, thought wisest of them all and part of the main trinity,

is but one of many.
