I read a lot of brush tutorials in the past and made my own, but when I used them I could barely tell the difference between them and the basic ones.  Maybe I'm just not configuring the shape/texture/angle/spread settings right.

I don't use any of the novelty brushes, the ones that look like stars or leaves or grass.  I used to (just like everyone else) but then I realised that it looked really terrible and stopped, just like using dodge/burn/smudge to shade something instead of doing it properly.  I just gravitate between a handful of round and chalk texture brushes of different sizes/density settings depending on if I'm outlining, colouring or painting.

Here's a current WIP using one chalk brush.  I change the size, opacity and a few other settings depending on what section on working on but it's the same brush.

I like painting but it's just so time consuming.  It makes for stunning finished pieces but a lot of the time when I want to go from idea in head to acceptable realised representation, a coloured lineart sketch is the quickest and most effective way to get it done.

I watched some Youtube demo vids of Krita and the program layout reminds me a lot of Paint Tool Sai.  If it has the same inking settings that make same very smooth looking lineart I might give it a whirl.  I like Sai a lot for lineart but I don't think the interface works very well with my old tablet.

This is my first attempt at a low poly landscape in blender. It's an Ashmount and some trees.

damnation! I just found out I forgot to save the scene. It seems I won't be adding a mistwraith to it anytime soon.

yeah, it seems to be a lot like sai. your style is probably perfect for it, actually!

I think I prefer thick outlines over thin ones, actually.  Thin outlines require a lot of precision and perfect linework to look good, but thick ones can be done with quick, gestural strokes.  And colouring requires a lot more precision  as well.  Maybe I'm just really lazy but I find colouring under thin lineart and having to go back to erase things that stick out of the lines to be incredibly tedious.  And sometimes my hands get shaky and thin lineart really makes it obvious.  Thank the Iridescent Tones for CTRL+Z.

Anyways, current WIP:

How it looks like zoomed into to 100%.  It looks like a messy pile of line vomit.

Here is what it looks like zoomed to 12%.  IT'S LIKE CHULLING MAGIC.

Sometimes it feels very satisfying seeing the big picture after working on small sections at a time.  It's like when you look for ages, then blink and you finally see Waldo/Wally even though you looked at that corner of the page a few minutes ago and saw nothing.

Open photoshop > new layer under lines > fill with color > select line layer > magic wand > select where you don't want color > go to paint layer > select menu > expand > 1 px > erase

Boom, fixed.

You also can't do thin lines in photoshop, period. You need a new program of you want to do anything lineart related.

Ok, so I drew Obliteration and scanned him into my computer, all excited to upload him to the gallery... only to find that there's not a category for Reckoners art, and the "General Art" category will not let me upload to it. Halp!

Oh...WOw. man, now i feel inadequate

^_^ Thank you, but don't feel inadequate! We're just good at different types of art. You are much better at digital art than I am. :)

Update: I drew another one. This is addicting!

That's awesome! I love Adolin's armor. I seriously suck at drawing clothes... That's why I stick to portraits. XD

Thanks. It is the first time I have ever drawn armor. Thouth, I will have you know that that took about one hour(one sitting) to do the armor alone

Storms! Intricate detail like that is really time-consuming, am I right?

I started working on a drawing of Mizzy yesterday. Got all the contours down and have started adding color to her skin. I'm kind of having to experiment with my colored pencils to get the shading right, since I've never drawn someone with darker skin before. But I'm super happy about how her expression turned out. Since she's so bubbly in the books I tried to give her a wide-eyed, smiling expression, and I think I succeeded.
