burngis12 he/him Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Hey guys! I'm not sure if I'm TOO much of a newbie to be here haha..I'm only halfway through Way of Kings and that's the only Sanderson book I've read. But. I'm loving it SO much and I can't wait to devour his other works so I can have some really awesome discussions with you guys! I'm a huge fan of fantasy, favorites being (in no particular order): Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire. Also found in the last few months that I'm a major sucker for Star Wars books. I'm a big fan of Star Wars and never tried the books before last year. Then I read Plagueis. Anyway. I digress. I'm here for Sanderson! Guys. This book is just so good. I can't wait to read more! 4
Voidus Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Welcome to the forums! Well I'd certainly hold off on browsing too much until you've at least finished tWoK since there can be quite a few spoilers floating around but I certainly hope to see some more posts from you once you're completely caught up. Any ideas on what you'll read next? Also, would you care for a traditional welcome to the forums cookie? 1
HurinThalion he/him Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 You won't be able to do much here if you've only read Way of Kings, because the Stormlight Archive forum has Words of Radiance in it. Check the cookie for spikes before you eat it... 1
burngis12 he/him Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 Any ideas on what you'll read next? Most likely I'll read WoR! Then Mistborn because I've heard that that is a must-read as well. You won't be able to do much here if you've only read Way of Kings, because the Stormlight Archive forum has Words of Radiance in it. Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I figured that I'd probably not be able to do much until I read more, but I just decided to create an account in anticipation! Haha
Cheese United he/him Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Hey, always happy to see new people, even if they are haven't read too much of Lord Sanderson. Welcome to the Forum! 1
vineyarddawg Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Welcome to the 17th Shard! But I wouldn't take that cookie...
Voidus Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Mistborn and WoR are both great reads, I'd also recommend Elantris since it was his first published work, the writings not quite as polished as his later books but I still love it.
skaa he/him Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 (edited) Welcome, burngis12! If you don't want to join the discussions yet but don't mind knowing about various concepts in Brandon's books (including stuff revealed in WoR), you can go ahead and read the Coppermind wiki. I know I'm in the minority who actually enjoy "spoilers", and you will be spoiled if you go to the Coppermind, so feel free to ignore that suggestion if you're one of the normal people who hate spoilers. Anyway, have fun finishing the Way of Kings! Edited February 19, 2015 by skaa
Frosted Flakes Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Welcome, burngis12! I read a study somewhere that people actually like spoilers. Yes, everyone initially makes negative noises about how everything is ruined...but they actually enjoy the anticipation of knowing what's coming and seeing how the story will advance to that point more than they enjoy being surprised. I forget what the researchers did exactly, but it was something to the effect of playing a movie with a surprise twist to two groups of a few hundred people each. One group watched the movie with no spoilers and the other group watched the movie after having it spoiled. Neither group had seen the movie before. The group that had the movie spoiled consistently rated it higher than those who had not had it it spoiled. Also, welcome burngis12! 1
