The oath stone is a spren

I think Ithe oath stone is Szeths spren. And also the rock hoid was named after hence how it is seen as a bad thing now similar to the aiel change in wheel of time.

I do not think it is a spren. I don't think Szeth has any connection to any spren. I have seen speculation on whether his Oath stone is a magical stone, or normal stone. I personally feel that is a religiously signifigant stone artifact but not actually magical, based mostly on the few tidbits we get of the Stone Shamanism religion that seems to be found in the Shin people.

I of course could be very wrong on every point, brandon's books tend to do that to me :)

A few problems with this,

1. All Shin warriors have Oathstones.

2. There are no spren in the Shin homeland.

3.Hoid is not from Roshar

4. The Oathstone is fixed in size and tangibile, traits which are rarely seen in spren.

5. The Oathstone gives no displays of sentience.

6. Szeth may not even need a spren to Surgebind as we know that something different is going on with him vs. with Kaladin

All that being said I think it may be possible for the Oathstone to contain a particular spren similar to how Fabrials work, I think someone mentioned that in another discussion on the Oathstone. Personally I doubt it since it would have had to be given to Szeth by the Stone Shamans so I don't think their abilities revolve much around spren. I think it more likely that it is just his Oathstone from back when he was a regular Shin warrior.

hi BenLoc and welcome to this community.

I know, as a newcomer, you'll want to get your ideas out there, I've been through it and supposedly 95% of the other members. But most topics have already been discussed and even if thread-necromancy doesn't seem to be well seen, there is one, not very old that covers your idea. And when you've found them, one may realize that the idea was just stupid. As for my first theory I posted :D

You'll get the thread about Szeth's oathstone and whether there is or not something more than just a rock about it here

It has three pages so maybe you'll find something interesting in it.

As for your theory, I agree mostly with Voidus, except on point 6, but so far there is no way to prove him right or wrong.

Anyway watch out for admins, they use to spike newcomers through offers of cookies :)

That's why I included a 'may' :P I'm not sure where I fall on that debate yet but that's a discussion for another thread.

Oh and also welcome to the forums BenLoc! Help yourself to some (nonspiked) welcome cookies :D

My guess would be that Szeth is connected to Soren the same way Kaladin is. The HonorSpren are what Binds stuff and "changes" his gravity. At least, that would be my assumption. But Brandon seems to like keeping secrets. So I've been wondering lots of things for about, what, five years? So glad Brandon's going back to the Stormlight Archive.

Oh, and something I found out today: Brandon Sanderson was originally going to call the Stormlight Archive something the the Oathshards Series. Interesting fact.
