Creecher he/him Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 (edited) Time for me to end this argument. Time to bring out the heavy weapons - Word of Brandon. http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/2383-qa-with-brandon-sanderson/page-7 'astalduath', on 26 Sept 2012 - 03:50 AM, said: Hey Brandon,Okay, I have two questions I have thought about for some time. One is to satisfy my inner nerd, and the other pertains to your writing. 1) After reading The Way of Kings, I couldn't help but to wonder this: hypothetically if there were two equally skilled combatants in every way, one armed with a Shardblade and the other with a Lightsaber, and take magic and the Force out of the equation (except for the weapons themselves), who would win? And yes, the Shardblade would have already been summoned and the two are just squaring off in a dual. Have fun with it. A lightsaber is actually a little more easy to wield than a Shardblade, I would guess. Shardblades were designed to fight something larger than another person; you don't actually need all of that size when fighting someone. So that gives a slight edge to you average Jedi. dyring Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 (edited) Silly thread. Thus one must reply One big advantage for the lightsaber would be that it cuts in all directions. All sides are edges(hotzones, burns.. wichever). A last clap for example, would be impossible. If Szeth had a lightsaber, Dalinar would, unfortunately, have bene dead;) More importantly if its a trained jedi however, is precognition. Think of it as Atium. Its one hell of an advantage. But not all Jedis are great at it. (Yoda when hes on the wookie planet in star wars 3(last of the new ones) sees way further then Atium would allow thou). (as for healing, thats toned down in the movies. It was supposed to be a lightside strength, but that seemed to change later, unsure wich is canon now.) Edited May 12, 2015 by dyring
Channelknight Fadran Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 A lightsaber is a super-heated gas, I.E. a plasma, but a strange force causes it to act like a solid. The blade is virtually invincible, because it's not actually a solid, but rather a gas. Shardblades are a form of Investiture, which, by my own definition, is a "mysterious magical force surrounding everything." A very soft magic system that can be divided into several smaller magic systems, I.E. Shardblades, Allomancy, BioChromatic breath. And lightsabers are actually exactly the same. They're a weapon that works by the power of the force which causes their strange physics. The Force is a "mysterious magical force that surrounds everything." A very soft magic system that, too, can be devided into several smaller magic systems, I.E. Force Lightning, making rocks float, viewing the future. A Shardblade's hardness and cut-ness comes from Investitures. A Lightsaber's hardness and cut-ness comes from the Force. Therefore, by definition, a battle between a Jedi and a Shardbearer would depend solely on their abilities Which, in turn, means probably the Shardbearer, because Surgebinders rely on their abilities more than their weapon, they are often more adept at their own skills, whilst a Jedi relies solely on their blade, with the occasional force-push to spice up a battle. I rest my case. I'm not taking the pole, btw. 1
