Tamzin Ashevai she/her
What do you think of Jeremy Renner as Alex Cross as the successor to Matt Damon's Jason Bourne in the Bourne franchise? Are you for this go-ahead which will likely also be a trilogy? Edited August 6, 2012 by Tamzin Ashevai
gdanny
I am really excited for this movie though I am not quite sure if it will be able to get one over the Matt Damon featured Bourne movie series. Looks really interesting quite frankly and I just hope that they will be able to run a better movie feature just to see how things are going to pan out that way. Would rather hope that there will be more to it if the first installment goes well.
Lysid he/him
Seems to me like little more than another instance of Hollywood capitalizing on a successful franchise, squeezing out every cent possible. It could be decent, but from what the trailers have revealed I'm skeptical. Guess I'll just have to wait and see. Lady_Yasha she/her
I like Jeremy Renner but I'm not sold on the genetic modification plot point. Bourne was a superb agent through his own skills, I don't want Renner's character being over-powered because he's had a slight chromosome shift. Lysid he/him
I was disappointed with the movie. There are some decent action sequences but the plot is absolutely terrible. The whole movie is like a filler piece so that they can explain how much bigger Black Briar is, how they're genetically enhancing soldiers etc... essentially very little is actually accomplished by the protagonist and the movie leaves you cold.... obviously intending a sequel, likely a trilogy.

Sounds like I'll be waiting for the DVD then. I was in no rush to see it. I hate how it takes a trilogy to get to the point. With the original Bourne it worked nicely because every movie had its own conclusion that felt satisfying. They could've ended Identity and the whole story with Bourne and Marie reuniting at the end. Tamzin Ashevai she/her
I'm actually looking forward to the resolution of the identity of David Webb/Jason Bourne and every other "active" like Aaron Cross (i.e.: Jeremy Renner.) Pamela Landy is going to have to defend the likes of Jason Bourne while refuting the lies of Noah Vosen (i.e.: David Strathairn), who remains supported by the characters portrayed by Albert Finney and Stacy Keach. Lady_Yasha she/her
Jason Bourne was resolved with Ultimatum, I felt. We know he's alive, and he'll most likely stay in the shadows for the rest of his life unless something comes up. Even if he was to be granted a pardon and a new identity he'd want to remain from the reaches of any intelligence organization that might exploit his talents. David Webb is just that. We know he was a Green Beret and a Captain in Delta Force before joining Treadstone. Webb is his actual name, that wasn't a cover.
Tamzin Ashevai she/her
Agreed; Jason Bourne is resolved. Neither you nor I are at liberty to predict anything that we know about him beyond his survival. That is all. The story concerning Aaron Cross is entirely different, as film-goers to The Bourne Legacy are ready to embrace.
Tamzin Ashevai she/her
They could've ended Identity and the whole story with Bourne and Marie reuniting at the end. They couldn't have; Marie was killed. She died in Supremacy.
Observer
I use this movie as a classic case of creating something mediocre, slapping on a name related to something totally outside the story, and then magically getting success from it. All it requires is a name and a few lame references to the other movie(s), and you have instant win.
Lady_Yasha she/her
They couldn't have; Marie was killed. She died in Supremacy. What I'm saying is, she didn't have to be killed. She was only killed because Supremacy was made and the producers probably didn't think she'd make the story interesting if she was still around for the sequels - so they got rid of her. In the books he's happily married throughout all seven(?) books, so if they'd not made any sequels to the movie we could have assumed they lived a comfortable life away from civilization, or just away from intelligence agencies. And agreed, this movie was terrible. The only good thing about it was Jeremy Renner. Ed Norton is the same person in every role he does and had zero villainy.
