Hi everyone!

I've just finished reading WoR yesterday, and I loved it. And I loved TWoK as well, and in fact I've got crazy about the Stormlight Archive series. And now I'm plannig to read the Mistborn series. So obviously when I found this website I just had to register. Sooooo here I am. And I'm absolutely not sure, what should I tell about myself. :)

Welcome to 17s! You'll love it here :)

Don't forget to check out the social groups, clans and guilds thread, wether you like ice castles, royal balls, titles, ponies or cookies, there's something for you! :D

Also, I'm terrified of spiders :D

Thanks! I'll defintely check it out. Cookies sound good, but maybe it's because I'm hungry at the moment. :)

And I love spiders, they're absolutely amazing and really interesting animals. :D But I'm also terrified of them. I recently moved to another country. I know that all of the native spider species here are harmless to humans, but the problem is that I still can't recognise a native species, so everytime I see a spider in my bathroom I'm freaking out, because I'm not sure whether it is harmless native spider, or super poisonous spider that some people like to keep and sometimes they also tend to loose them. xD

And well. I'm really talkative.

Well, I have no idea whatsoever what it means, as I've only read SA books. Oh, well. I'll better go read all other books, before trying any cookies. Just to be safe. ;)

So, I was thinking "spiders are animals. Flutter shy is great with animals". So I decided to look for images of Fluttershy and spiders, as a funny way of offering pony-based salutations.

Don't look for Fluttershy spider pictures. Just...don't. You'll thank me later.

I'm in Australia so we have all the terrifying spiders such as funnel web and red back :D Truly Terrifying.

Hah, even though I know you've got all this super poisonous things in Australia, I always wanted to go there. I haven't got the chance yet, though. I'm currently in UK, so Australia is the farthest possible place on Earth I could go (well, except Antarctica, which is way too cold), and that makes me really want to go there. Going to the other side of the world sounds crazy and amazing. Even if there are scary spiders there. :D

I did look for them. I survived. :D

Your Journey through the Cosmere has just begun! After you've read the Mistborn series there will be a number of other splendid literary voyages to embark upon. I recommend Warbreaker, an excellent novel that you can read for free on Brandon's website, as it contains some of my all-time favorite characters and because it's an excellent story.

I too find spiders fascinating, though I lack the customary terror and possess only a healthy respect for them. I have good news for all of you though: Spiders are not poisonous. Not a single one.

Bad news: most of them are venomous, which is unfortunately worse since you are more likely to be bitten by a spider than eat one.

Who're some of your favorite Stormlight Archive characters and why? You get bonus points if you say Ishikk or The Lopen.

Ahh, sorry. My English sometimes sucks, and I do tend to mix the words. :/ That's kind of embarrasing. But I'm working on it.

Well then, The Lopen. Can I get bonus point now? xD No, just kidding. I mean, I do like Lopen, but to be honest I can't say which character is my favourite right now. I first want to reread books, to be sure I do understand what's really going on there and all of the characters before I give any sort of judgment. For now I prefer Kaladin over Shallan, I do like Rock, Lopen, but the best character I can now think of is Lopen's Mom. I loved the scene with her. :D But as I said, after I reread the books, everything can change. Edited by Pestis the Spider

Seconded for reading Warbreaker next. It's my favourite commerce novel though, so of course I'd say that, but still...

Anyway... Flutterspider is creepy. That's all I have to say on the subject.

Howdy, Pestis. I'll second several people and say that you should read Warbreaker after you read the Mistborn series. I took the same route that you did: I read SA first, then Mistborn, then Warbreaker. Now that I've read most of all of the Cosmere boooks (excluding one or two short stories), I have now gone back to re-reading SA. Stormfather, I missed so much my first time around!

Bad news: most of them are venomous, which is unfortunately worse since you are more likely to be bitten by a spider than eat one.

I am proud to say that I am one of those people that has EATEN a spider. Deep-fried, pregnant tarantulas (nom, nom, nom...spider caviar!) dipped in a peanut sauce are delectable. They're deep-fried to cook off the hairs and they're also de-fanged so that it won't bite you as you eat it. Mmmmm. It was tasty. Maybe, though, it was just the peanut sauce that was really tasty?

Oh, and where did you eat these spiders? I'd love to go there and try some tasty tarantulas, although peanut sauce is definitely not my favourite. Did they maybe have some other sauces to choose from?

And well... I like the Titan Arum plant. It's one of the things our lecturers use to make us laugh, because of its peculiar latin name. ; P

The Latin name is rather funny. The reason it's now known as "Titan Arum" instead of Amorphophallus titatnum is because of a BBC radio host who thought it would be too inappropriate to use the scientific name on air. As an American, it only reinforces the stereotype of Brits being prudish! (Even though I know they're not!)

I was fortunate enough to see two of these flowers in bloom back in 2004 and 2005 at my university's conservatory. It's had 7 Titan Arum blooms since 2003. I'm not even a botanist, but i'm really impressed by these plants. The entire notion of attracting flies for pollination using a chemical stench similar to dead mammals is fascinating to me.

I saw one of these in the botanic garden during one of my... let's say field lectures. Really impressive plant (and the flower is obviously the most impressive part of it). But if we're talking about huge, dead meat stinking flowers, then I always preffered Rafflesia arnoldii to Titan Arum, because it has this great meaty looking petals, which make the flower also look like a rotten meat not only smell like it. Plant adaptations are amazing!

I have never heard of anything as frightening as that. Do they chop the legs off and you eat them seperatly or is the spider in one piece?

I actually imagine it has to be crunchy. Crunchy is good.
