Siriagus
Hi! I got Elantris as a christmas present last year and read the Mistborn series this spring/summer, including Alloy of Law. As the Mistborn trilogy has become my favourite book series, I decided to join your forum. I have a lot of unswered questions and are intrigued by discovering that they are only a part of a much bigger universe (the cosmere). Does anyone have any recommendations for which book/series I should read next? And how did people find out that (some of) his books were part of a bigger picture? Any pointers to topics in the forum or other sources would be greatly appreciated!
WeiryWriter he/him
Welcome to the forum! I would actually recomend reading Warbreaker next. It's currently a standalone, and is free in ebook form on Brandon's website. It's the book he wrote directly after the Mistborn trilogy and in a literary sense it's a direct response to the Mistborn trilogy. It's also a really good book. I was not around when we first found out so I don't know exactly how it happened but I believe it had something to do with Hoid. Hoid is a character that shows up in most cosmere works. I'm pretty sure it all came out around the release of Hero of Ages.
Fatebreaker he/him
Welcome to the Madness. Have an upvote and a cookie. Gotta agree with WW, Warbreaker is the way to go. Then the Stormlight Archive. And you have cause to rejoice! Shadows of Self, the sequel to Alloy of Law, is set to be released in the Autumn of 2015! So enjoy your stay and mind your step.
Zas678 he/him
Welcome! The point that the fandom realized that there was an interconnected universe was right after the Hero of Ages release. The Q&A that Brandon did on the old forum (Time Waster's guide) included questions from the annotations including about connecting persons. If you want to, here's the original Q&A. It's got a lot of great things about HoA and the first things about the Cosmere (including Hoid). As a warning, it's a little long... but it's awesome. Interestingly enough, that was the exact time I joined. I had read a number of Brandon's books, and went to the release party of Hero of Ages and someone mentioned the forum. I went just as the Q&A started and been around ever since. I hope you enjoy it here, and find like-minded people here.

RawToast225 he/him
It's "still" the first book you've read by him? Is that likely to change in the future? Will you read the next Stormlight Archive book and have that become the first book you've read by him?
WeiryWriter he/him
It's "still" the first book you've read by him? Is that likely to change in the future? It's a figure of speech, no need to be rude.
RawToast225 he/him
I wasn't trying to be rude, just pointing out logical fallacy in what I thought would be a humorous way. I guess it didn't come out right. Sorry
Mckeedee123 he/him
Nah, WoK is the best. (Way of Kings) Agreed. Stormlight Archives Rocks. That is as true as the fact that Stick is a stick Mistborn was the second series I read through. It took me about a week to finish them. The biggest impression I got, originally, was how many of the main characters died just as soon as I took notice of them. Specifically, Clubs and Dockson. Most of the names of the members of the crew just kind of blended together in my mind, and it wasn't until the end of book two that I actually bothered to distinguish between them. Of course, that's when characters started dropping like flies. The entire time I was reading I expected Kelsier to come back somehow, as I just couldn't except Vin as the main character. When "Kelsier" appeared to Spook, I bought it hook, line, and sinker. Of course, once I was halfway through Hero of Ages, I had decided that Vin was all right after all (she wasn't as needy as she had been in WoA). Then she dies, and... Sazed of all people becomes the HoA? I was pretty surprised, though I found that the ending really tied everything up well. I was content (though very depressed). Re-reading it, everything seems less... dying-y than it was before. There's a sense of inevitabilty to it now, and I don't feel bad for the dead characters. It's a lot better now that I see everything in the context of the whole story arc. (I noticed Hoid immediately when reading through it the first time, though the fact that I had read WoK first slightly diminishes that accomplishment...) -------------------- Kind of went off on a tangent there. Anyway, when I first read Way of Kings (suggested to me by my cousins at a family reunion who were hyping about it), my first impression was: Holy Stormfather! I'm on Storming Cloud Nine! That was Storming awesome! (After 1200+ pages, you kind of adopt the language) Point is: SA is awesome.
