I actually don't know what I was doing when she texted me.

I was just staring at the wall.

Hm.

I should nap.

A nap sounds great.

I asked my parents for the address of one of the pastors at our old church, who supervised while I was volunteering.

They were excited to help me apply for a job. My dad eagerly grabbed my resume to give me suggestions for improvement.

Then I told them it was in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Not Spokane or Coeur d'Alene.

They lost interest and wandered off.

"Explaining what I'm doing to you."

That one gets old very fast.

I think the worst one is

Me- -on phone-

Mom- who are you texting

Me- -is on tumblr- nobody

Mom- then what are you doing

Me- nothing

My family is moving back to Spokane.

But I'm not.

I'm not even going to look at jobs there.

mahahahahaha

Woot!  I commemorate this event with a ridiculous Youtube Video that is tangentially related to Spokane!

That was amazing.

I'm still not entirely sure what it was about, but it was amazing. :D

It was a clip from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, another Lauren Faust creation.

Also, it's hot in Topeeeeeka!

Topeka. Another city I can apply for.

Seriously, the first thing my mom said when she told me the news was "Have you applied for any jobs there?" I think she's convinced herself I want to move back to Spokane as much as she does.

Of course she has.  From the sound of things, she's got quite the narcissistic streak; SHE wants this thing, so clearly everybody else does, too.

Pretty much. She's been known to throw a fit when she wants to make fettuccine Alfredo for dinner and someone asks if we can please have something else because we've had fettuccine three times in the past week. That explains a lot, actually....

Anything major I'll need to know before moving out on my own? I know about budgeting and grocery shopping and other basic stuff, but is there anything weird you don't think of until it's staring you in the face?

* refrains from commenting about how much he'd like a bowl of fettuccine alfredo right now, for Twi's sake *

Emergencies.  Medical, vehicular, being able to provide a gift to someone else in need, etc.

Hmmm, let me think...

1)  It's quiet.  Quieter than you think it'll be, unless you have terrible neighbors.

2)  Shared laundry facilities are awful.  Hoard all your quarters.  Start now.

3)  You won't have to clean up any messes that aren't yours.  The flip side of this is whenever you are sighing over a mess that needs to be cleaned up, you'll know that you have only yourself to blame.

I'm sure I'll think of more stuff after I click "Post"

Yep, there's one.  What ThirdGen said; get a good first aid kit.  Band aids are precious things.  Jumper cables, flares, and other stuff for the car.  Make sure you have flashlights in case of a power outage.

Always sleep with your car keys by your bed!

If anything happens, you can press the red panic button on the key. The car alarm will go off and possibly derail anyone who's breaking in.

Sorry. Didn't mean to pour lemon juice on a paper cut there.

"You've been wronged."

Twi's mother stood in the doorway, confused. "Um, who are you?"

"I'm a person who thinks you've been wronged," replied Kobold evasively. "I've spoken to your daughter. When she spoke of you, she spoke of wrongs you'd committed against her. But I know you meant well, and your wrongdoings were exaggerated."

Confusion turned to anger as Twi's mother scowled. "What did she say?" she demanded angrily. "I've worked hard to give her the best upbringing I could give her, and she--"

"Oh, it's nothing about that," Kobold responded, waving his hand dismissively. "Though frankly, I think you've been pretty beastly to her on a lot of issues. I'm here about the pasta."

Confusion returned. Twi's mother blinked awkwardly.

Seeing his chance, Kobold held out a small empty bowl hopefully. "I heard you like making fettuccine alfredo, and no one else wants to eat it as often as you do. Well, here's your chance to feed someone who will never get sick of the stuff."

This sounds a lot like Eustace Scrubb.

Thank you! Keep the suggestions coming; I seriously have a notepad where I'm jotting them down.

And then, when Kobold has eaten all if the fettuccine, Twi can run to the store and buy herself a nice baguette with some herbed olive oil.

I am hoping you've added "Invite Kobold over for fettuccine night" along with all the legitimately useful stuff other people have suggested. :P

See? It's a win-win for everybody!

If I ever have the opportunity, you'll be at the top of the guest list for fettuccine night. ;)

No cake by myself. Got it. :P
