Triasmus Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 This is a blatant copy/paste from my post in the Radiants and Spren thread . A surgbinder that's taken 4/5 of the Radiant oaths goes to Cusicesh The Protector. Cusicesh takes "something away from them" and with that "4/5 radiant something" it makes that person's Shards and whispers the 5th oath (depending on their order, obviously) to them (or unlocks the part of their brain that holds the oath). As they take the oath the Shards appear.
Zas678 he/him Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 By Shards, do you mean literal Shards? Or Shadblades/Shardplate? Just want to make sure. And I think it's very possible. It depends on how long it's been around, and if it predates the common spren (like windspren).
Vikter Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 It could also be that the first Radiants were created by The Herald associated with their particular order. After that is may only take another full Radiant to create another Radiant of their order. With the spren that is bonded to the blade and plate bearing orders binding themselves into the armor and blade. It could be that they even become the armor, imprisoning themselves and binding to the soul of the bearer. When the KR summons his armor (as I feel they can, based of the disappearing helmet act) the spren forms into the armor. When there is no need of the armor the spren is more like Syl now. Of course this entire idea took all of 60 second to conceive in direct response to this thread, so I may be missing something, and to be honest with the how little we know about how things actually do work any theory could be right or wrong.
hoser he/him Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 I love the creativity of the Cusicesh idea. I struggle with tying it in thematically with Radiant ascension. I can't see the Radiants being created by the Heralds, as they were apparently started during Nohadon's lifetime, but after the post-Desolation vision. Since the Heralds only appeared during Desolations and Desolations were hundreds of years apart, I think the first Radiants had to be created without heraldic intervention.

It depends on how long it's been around, and if it predates the common spren (like windspren). I mean Shardblades and Plate. I figured the context I used "Shards" in would minimize doubt enough . This could also explain how all of the hundreds of Shards are unique. Everybody (or every surgebinder) has a unique set of blueprints schematics(?) imprinted in their sDNA (or any other DNA) that allows Cusicesh or something else to make the Plate/Blade that fits that person like a glove, since they're "part" of the person.
Dros Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 But would Cusicesh have been around before Honor splintered? I thought the spren were a result of that? Or is he different?
Triasmus Posted June 22, 2012 Author Posted June 22, 2012 There's no other Spren like him... or at least, we don't know if there are. What if he's not really a Spren but nobody knows what he is so they call him a Spren because he's similar in a (few) way(s).
