tbh im not really into miku cuz i just dont like the style of songs and voice but i like some of her songs.

I only got into vocaloid kinda recently but i prolly love Teto the most. Execution Clap, Brainrot, wait Looping the Rooms is Miku?  

Anyway talk about Vocaloids ig, songs, etc.

(This isn't a general music thread like What Are You Listening To, it's a vocaloid music thread, and btw i think theres like... different definitions of vocaloid ir wtvr but basically here I'm using it (except in the title, if u get it and if i was actually correct there) to just mean all... virtual singers or whatever they're called.

Utsu-P supremacy, not a big fan of Miku either but I like her when he does it. Dude does Teto songs too, Kuchisake is great.

for me i dont like miku i think cuz... part is she sounds too robotic sometimes (and then i listen to [redacted song name] and Heat Abnormal that are pretty robotic ) and also the songs i dont always like them, maybe its the style/genre or the beat or smth idk. too pop/upbeat sometimes idk. I like a few Miku songs, like i dint know Looping the Rooms is Miku but ig it is! And Under My Heel is kinda good. Only listened to it cuz I *love* some of that artist's other songs, as you can see above.. (artist is "hya," and im talkin bout Snake).

for me it depends

i like when i can hear english and like the song but alsooo there are a lot of amazing-sounding japanese ones so like idk. prolly both but also it depends. and english covers dont always sound as good idk.

 

i dont rly have a fave artist/producer person, more like multiple, and sometimes I don't pay attention to the artist.

Same kinda? I never really listened to Vocaloid much because I didn't like the way the voices sound in general. I mind it less than before, but still do. Hell, I only got into it last year because newer Teto songs use SynthV which sounds soooooo much better. Oh and a little before that Utsu-P because metal. We need more Vocaloid metal.

Honestly both are fine, but I do like that Japanese songs tend to be more serious while western songs are sillier. Vocaloids, and recently Teto with her surge in popularity, have a much more, uh, meme-ish image in the west, so the lyrics tend to reflect that. I think that duality is really fun. For the Japanese side there's stuff like the one I mentioned, Kuchisake, which is this really cool metal song about Kuchisake-onna, while here we have stuff like, Poteto Chip? I liked you better as a femcel? Although even those have pretty good lyrics, kinda depressing too. Why do we like making these voice banks suffer so much...?

Also, as a Spanish speaker, it's fun to see how a lot of the Vocaloid stuff from around here is just covers of popular songs. It's wild finding a Miku cover of a song you had only heard from your grandma. Or finding some song that was popular when I was in middle school that I never really liked, and that now I kinda dig exclusively because it's Teto singing it this time (that would be Tu Falta de Querer).

 

And tangent I suppose but on the topic of digital singers I think there's something to be said about Neuro-sama. It's mostly just covers but some of them stand on their own honestly. They have the only version of Aishite Aishite Aishite I like. And the originals are pretty good too. "Boom" and "Life" I really like.

I love Teto metal lol, tho I'm only just discovering it. I also strated listening to vocaloid songs like .. earlier this year, when I got into anime and then J-Pop. Though... I think I listened to the leek one, Ievan Polka, sometime last year a few times.

tbh sometimes it just kinda... hurts my ears a bit to listen to the ultra-robotic stuff, which is why sometimes i just *can't* listen to Kanaria's stuff (KING, Yoidoreshirazu, etc.) But as I said with stuff like Heat Abnormal... idk, it feels "softer" somehow? And therefore much more tolerable and enjoyable.

Omgg yes hehe. Confession: I kinda like songs like Poteto Chip on occasion (it's by ROMA, right? I basically like all their songs. Give "Life Kinda Sucks" a listen, it's English and basically a rant abt technology and social media and depression or smth. But good, imo.)

Yeh there *are* a lot of those teto english meme songs. I noticed that the Japanese ones can be more serious lol, and honestly sometimes higher-quality. Idk. Though... there is one, if you want a pretty depressing (and probably relatable) song, listen to "Problems" by Alterclad. There are 3 versions (all English), one that's Teto, one that's a self-cover or wtvr (sung by the artist, male voice) and another that's sung by someone else, I think human (female voice).

Also, wait, do you like or dislike depressing ones? Or does it depend? I mean there's like a *lot* of teto english depressing stuff (artists: Reclaimant of Life (more heavy topics), ROMA (depression, burnout, etc., WAIT "Insomnia" is ROMA's? Oh nice. It's a Yi Xi btw. I like it. English.). Yeh..

I like that the song is sad but it's like meant to push you in the opposite direction. Like you don't have to be like the pov in the song. Good stuff.

sigh I'll confidently say I don't, then realize half my favorite stories and songs are sad as hell. I mean Mili is my favorite band, and that song you recommended, Problems, I ended up loving. So I guess, I don't look for depressing stuff, but I find it anyway and it tends to be really good, I guess.

Oh, apparently I have a song from Reclaimant of Life in my list. I'm Tired of Acting Like I Don't Want To Trigger Any Self Harm Flags on the Shard. To be perfectly honest I thought the lyrics were pretty bad, but the music itself was a banger. I'll check out some of their other songs.

Ah yes. I listened to like half of it but never finished. I honestly don't really like their songs that much. Tho one of their newer ones, "I'll Always [Redacted] Too Late" is pretty good. (TW depressing stuff and drugs.) It's Teto, and *pretty* sure it qualifies as metal so you might like it.

Wow these are actually kinda better than I remember, the redacted one. At least the sound. Hm.

It has a *really* interesting sound imo. It's very fast (and 1:29 long ), but the VOICE... (it's Teto), it sounds like... sick (as in, ill, but also as i awesome lol), or like shaky... or smth .. maybe like a gurgling zombie? idk. It sounds rly good lol ....

Oh... and HAVE YOU LISTENED TO Butcher Vanity yet??? (TW cannibalism) it uses Yi Xi, which I'd never heard of but sounds pretty good tbh.

Anyway, overall I think I like rock/metal-type stuff, but also others but that's my main.

Ah no, sorry. It's a dance game. Years ago they made a level based on Miku's version of Ievan Polkka, back in 2016 when it was really popular. Gosh I'm feeling old.

Ah, I should probably give the disclaimer. For a few years now they've had several deals with game companies, mainly Project Moon, which means most of their output in recent years has been songs made for those games, which in turn means those songs can be confusing without context about the game. Through Patches of Violet is one of those. (I don't like to gatekeep but I do miss when most of their songs were fully their own and when people in the comment sections talked about the songs themselves instead of just references to game characters. Now even their older songs are bearing the brunt of that)

For more original examples of their songs I would say, Ga1ahad and Scientific Witchery (a witch constantly resurrecting a knight that tried to kill her. weird we love each other but want to kill each other situation), Camelia (abusive paternal figure and its consequences, tw: sa), Bathtub Mermaid (this one gets kinda raw, girl who thought "I can fix him" and ended up messing up herself), Sleep Talk Metropolis (about how we live our lives lightning fast, chasing an ideal future that may never come). Those are good and self explanatory. There's a bunch but to get an idea of their style I'd say any of these work (totally not just plugging my favorites). Obviously it's fine not to like it, but I felt it was worth mentioning that maybe Through Patches of Violet is not their best entry point.

I'm not fully sure if Snake is my style, but I see what you mean about the voice. Whatever witchery is going on there, I hope they keep going. Also love the trend of making videos without titles with cool songs in them.

Butcher Vanity was good. If I had a nickel for every Vocaloid song about cannibalism I've heard, I'd have two. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice. I'm in Love with the Cannibal Girl is kinda fun. Though the voice is severely outdated, (as I understand it it's a deliberate choice by the producer, but idk)

Honestly I'm still working on finding stuff to fill the list. I did start listening to this stuff last year but I don't really look for it. I just trust the almighty algorithm to bring it to me. Uhhh like a day ago I found Whodunit by MonochroMenace which was really fun. Same with Gambler's Fallacy by Azali and stickii, that was a good double find.

Spoken For is good, damn I'm noticing Jamie P is involved in a lot of these. Entertainment Echoism is really catchy, Magical Girl Retirement Toast, Star Echo, ok wow, a lot of these I had only listened to once, clearly I forgot what gems were hiding in my music playlist.

Shrimp Miku Falls in Love is totally a meme song but it's legitimately cute, same with A Chud Like Me. Machine Love is well known but probably worth mentioning. I'm Too Complicated with Teto is good too. Nisemono no Ori and Giant Hornet on the Japanese side of things.

 

Just now thinking about how it's cute that they name the songs "...feat. Kasane Teto", like they're actual singers. But this tripped me up because for quite a while (before I started listening to her) I thought Teto was an actual person, like a vtuber or something. It was only when I found like 3 songs with her, from different artists, released in the space of like 2 weeks, that I decided that was maybe a little too much output for one person. One google search later I was feeling pretty dumb.
