Nitpicking Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Proposition: Ba-Ado-Mishram is The Night, Unmade by Rayse. Support: The Night was an Adonalsium spren. Mishram's name includes "Ado", one of Adonalsium's nicknames. She Connects to all of Roshar on a deep level. The Nightwatcher was made partly from The Night's Investiture. BAM's form seen in W&T Chapter 13 looks like the Nightwatcher to me. Who else would have power seemingly just barely short of a Shard's? 5

Someone try and disprove this, as I cannot. Discourse around this topic would highly interest me.
Through The Living Ketek He/Him/His Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Interesting, I like this. But what about the "Ba" and "Mishram" parts? and wasn't the nightwatcher able to work when BAM was imprisoned in the spiritual realm?
Schizoposting Posted May 9 Posted May 9 It's not the worst theory, but in WaT it's stated that the Night "left Roshar", which seemingly contradicts her being Mishram—although Honor says that the creation of the Unmade was "hidden" from him, so it's still possible that Rayse corrupted the Night without anyone realizing it.
Through The Living Ketek He/Him/His Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Also it makes sense why the Night would hate humans- immediately corrupting the world as soon as they arrived.

The Sibling doesn't say "left Roshar," just "left". (Chapter 21) Brandon will sometimes remind his fans that the characters, even really old and knowledgeable ones, don't know everything and can be wrong.
GG0z He/Him Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Also the Mishram part of the name is the Rosharan symmetry naming, I think

Well, again, your idea is reasonable one, as far as fan theories go, but I don't think that we have conclusive evidence either way.

Afterthought: I wonder if Rayse learned to Splinter and Unmake from the experience of killing God and stealing his power.
Frustration Posted May 10 Posted May 10 (edited) The best rendition we currently have for the name Ba-Ado-Mishram is: Child of the light of Cultivation and Honor Spoiler LewsTherinTelescope Does "Ba-Ado-Mishram" mean "child of the light of Cultivation and Honor"? Brandon Sanderson RAFO, but you're doing a pretty good job picking apart the linguistics of that. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/406/#e14590 4 hours ago, Nitpicking said: She Connects to all of Roshar on a deep level. She only does this after taking up the Well of Control, which is well within the power the well would grant anyone. 4 hours ago, Nitpicking said: The Nightwatcher was made partly from The Night's Investiture. BAM's form seen in W&T Chapter 13 looks like the Nightwatcher to me. That's a bit subjective as the Nightwatcher is described as a mask with a body, whereas BAM is described as a singer. I don't personally see a strong resembalance, but I get where you're coming from. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case, but I don't think there is a lot of evidence in favor. I don’t think she has as much investiture as you say. She’s got a lot, and some more from the Well, but not that much. I do like the idea though. It explains why we never see the Night in WaT.
Jult Posted May 13 Posted May 13 I love Unmade theories. I've just got to know more about them. Some random BAM and Nightwatcher notes I have that may be relevant to this discussion: Somewhere on the 17th Shard (I'm having trouble finding it - my search timed out?) there was a group that translated the symbols around the border of this BAM art: Spoiler I believe what they came up with was "The Child of Light and Music". So, I've been assuming that is the literal translation of her name. Especially since we can guess that the "Ado" portion of her name means "light" because the "Ado" in "Adolin" means light. There's also a very weird line in the Stormlight World Guide for the Cosmere RPG in the Nightwatcher's description: Spoiler I'd lean towards BAM being something other than Night. Mostly because she seems to be largely associated with light - which I'd consider more of an opposite to Night. But also, because the RPG seems to (perhaps accidentally) confirm that the Nightwatcher was once Night. 1
