wyndle gardens chair she/her Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Hi! I got into the Stormlight Archives last summer via friend's recommendation! idk what I'm supposed to put here really... I've been told to slow down my binge of Cosmere novels bc I'll run out soon, but based on Brandon Sanderson's website I've read all but White Sand, Wax and Wayne, and Isles of the Emberdark. Also, I created this account a few months ago but I'm not tech savvy and didn't notice that 1. the Stormlight threads I was reading were many months old, and 2. people were telling me to stop necro-posting... So now I'm doing what I should have done a while ago and introducing myself!!! What kinds of books would ya'll recommend for when I finish all of the existing Cosmere books? (I also read Orson Scott Card) but please keep it appropriate for a high schooler! I would greatly appreciate that! Thanks! 2
KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren He/Him Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Welcome! I'd recommend going through Sanderson's non-Cosmere works too. If you want more recommendations, there's a thread for that. So, if you could invite any 6 Sanderson characters to a party, who would you invite?
wyndle gardens chair she/her Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 I think I would like to invite Rock definitely, so that he can cook for me! Food is the best thing that exists besides music and weird plants (hence wyndle as my username) and I would love to eat his fooooodddd Also Syl and Shallan, because I love the conversation dynamics between them, and I can't get enough of Syl anyway, Lopen for the jokes, and Yumi and Painter, because I love their character development and they are in general just really sweet and kind people.

Ooh interesting Yumi and Painter might be intimidated by all the 2-metre tall Rosharans... But I'm sure it's nothing The Lopen can't fix that.
Fizz9 Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Hello @wyndle gardens chair! What Knight's Radiant order would you be? What Misting would you be? Ferring? You should become Radiant: And you can join the Radiant & Spren roleplay: Also don't forget to do some Sanderson Elimination! (It's the Mafia party game, but Brandon Sanderson) Here is a Sign up thread if you wish to play, and the rules thread: Welcome to the Shard! Sorry for making a HUGE post on you!

Book reccomendations? *cackles* Come to me when you have finished the cosmere my friend. I have a book longer than all of SA combined! *evil cackling continues* *pushes out of the way* Sorry that was my evil doppelganger. Happens sometimes. Do you like dragons? What Radiant Order's Surges and which one's ideals do you like the most?

wyndle gardens chair she/her Posted April 15 Author Posted April 15 Woah! That's a lot of questions! I think that Edgedancers are the GOAT. They are sooooo selfless and caring, and they have PLANT SPREN!!! In general, I go crazy for all types of plants, and just the idea of a talking one that insists that it's not a Voidbringer is so endearing to me! Also, it would be like wearing ice skates whenever you want, without the scrapes and bruises whenever you fall over! As for Mistings, I think that tineye would be super cool, though I was kinda freaked out for the chapters in Hero of Ages from Spook's pov when he becomes a tin savant... 1 hour ago, CoderDrag0n8 said: Book reccomendations? *cackles* Come to me when you have finished the cosmere my friend. I think that overall, the Edgedancer ideals are the best, but if I could mix and match surges, I would choose Abrasion + Gravitation! There's sooo much possibility!!! Also, @CoderDrag0n8, HOW DOES THAT BOOK FIT ON YOUR BOOKSHELF?????????? Or is it an ebook? 1 hour ago, Fizz9 said: Hello @wyndle gardens chair! What Knight's Radiant order would you be? You've arrived at the best place on the Internet, filled with the best people, the best desserts, and the best murderous animals! Here are a couple of tips to help you settle in to your new place as a cog in the Grand Apparatus that is the Shard: 1. Join S(anderson) E(limination). 2. Familiarize yourself with the most important forums: SE, Cosmere Q&A, and SE. 3. Tell us which books you have and haven't read (this helps us avoid spoilers) 4. HAVE FUN! Make friends! 5. Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler The more people you interact with, the more people it's acceptable for you to follow, and then those people will feel obliged to follow you. And then you get rep and cool yellow words under your name. As for book recommendations, I really love the Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu (it isn't for everyone, though), and of course Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir is in my top 10. What type of book are you looking for? Edited April 15 by Through the Living Hopper

What type of book are you looking for? I love fantasy novels, but recently I've been getting into sci-fi too. I've been recommended Project Hail Mary by 3 different people now! I should look into it! Question: Would you rate the books you recommended PG-13, or R? Sorry, I'm not trying to be judgy in book tastes, I just personally prefer "cleaner" novels... Thank you so much!!!

Sorry, I'm not trying to be judgy in book tastes, I just personally prefer "cleaner" novels... Thank you so much!!! Both of them have F-words, so if you're uncomfortable with that, probably not the 3-Body Problem. Project Hail Mary has 2, so if you really don't want to read those you probably will be fine just blipping over them. Other than that, Project Hail Mary is very clean, little to no violence, nothing sexual (there is one scene of innuendo, but nothing actually happens). It's very clean. The 3-Body Problem is a little dirtier. It would probably be rated R, but only because of mature themes. There is a little more swearing, with probably around 8 f-words, but they're pretty clustered, so you should be fine. There is some violence, but I don't know your tolerance level. Be prepared for some adult themes, though, as the series is definitely meant for adults. Nothinging sexual. The book opens during the Chinese Revolution, so naturally is can be a little violent. I'd say definitely PHM, it's very clean (at least I think), and try the 3-Body Problem, and if you're uncomfortable, then stop. If you give me more information about your tolerances then I can give you more info.

It's very clean. There is ooone thing tho... It spends like a good 15% of the book discussing a catheter. Not like... in detail or anything. It just KEEPS bringing it up, and tbh it made me kinda uncomfortable. more uncomfortable than almost any other book I've read, and I read all of ACOTAR

The audiobook also reads the first chapter slower than the more action-filled ones, so that's probably part of my problem, but idk, it made me like super uncomfortable Still a 9/10 book (I only rank Sanderson/Lynch a 10) but I just thought I'd put that out there
