Through The Living Star She/Her Posted April 7 Posted April 7 So, as I was reading Rhythm of War, I noticed something. Right before the final node is found, in Chapter 100, there is a quote from Kaladin talking right after he wakes up. Quote What had awakened him? He remembered a... a song. A distant song. (sorry, I would provide the page number, but I only have the Kindle version) Then it never mentions it again. So I was wondering what the song was. It's possible that it was something from the Sibling, but I'm not sure what it could be. I'm not too sure what it is. As far as I know, there are no WoBs on this, but I would love to be proved wrong. What do you guys think? What is the song that wakes Kaladin up before the node is found?

Obviously this changes in WaT, but I don't remember it happening before Navani bonds them. So is it that the Sibling could actually have a song out loud, without touching the garnets? Does that mean it is just words that the Sibling could not get out before the Bond without touching the garnet?

Not sure about 'out loud' so much as 'directly in Kaladin's head' for the same reasons he was able to wake up at all—being super close to the fourth ideal and extremely aligned with Honor's Intent (and therefore the part of the Sibling that was of Honor).

Kaladin clarifies shortly thereafter - RoW Ch 100: Spoiler “What is it?” Teft said. “Something’s happening,” Kaladin said. “The tower’s spren woke me, saying the final node has been located. The Sibling told me the Radiants are in danger, and asked me to send Rlain. I think they meant to send Rlain to Navani, like we’d been planning. Our hand seems to have been forced. We need to try to rescue the Radiants.” My guess is that either: Spoiler Kaladin Connected slightly to Sibling by protecting them or Stone (as shown in Ch 83) helped convey the song to wake Kaladin on Sibling's behalf 1

I'm not sure how Kaladin would Connect to the Sibling, though that is a plausible explanation. In WaT though, the Wind talks about how Kaladin isn't one that can talk to the Stones, when she is trying to explain Nale and shows Kaladin the former statue, so I don't think it could be the Stones, though I'm not 100% sure. 1

Keep in mind that Connection does not necessarily mean Bond. For example, when Syl imitates Shallan in WoR before either she or Kal had even met Shallan yet. That was Connection echoing forward before the precipitating event. Just the fact that Urithiru has become Kaladin's home and that during RoW he is fighting to protect Sibling and repeatedly touches Towerlight in the Garnet veins could be enough Connection for a similar echo (the song before the talk). If it was Stone, it could just be Stone helping to facilitate. WaT: Spoiler Kaladin is Connected to Wind; Wind is Connected to Stone; Stone is (at least in-part) the Sibling. So, if Stone if using these interwoven Connections to wake Kaladin because Sibling needs him - well ,we already saw Stone sing the ancient song of Ur with Venli in Ch 83. Ah yes fun Spiritual realm things. To be honest, a lot of the Spiritual Realm stuff kind of throws me off. That does make a lot of sense; you explained it really well. That is plausible, though I still don't think it would be the Stones; that doesn't mean it isn't true, it just doesn't really make sense to me. Plus with the quote you showed earlier, I think it's probably the Sibling doing something. 1

Concur that is most likely - I just wanted to off other alternatives as well, because it certainly is not confirmed.

Which are all valid explanations. Thank you so much! I totally missed that quote lol. It definitely helped answer my question 1
