From what we've seen, it appears that each, or at least some, forms of Surgebinding have a more advanced use that is not as intuitive as their standard use for Radiants.

Transportation not only lets you create miniature Perpendicularities, you can use it to teleport long distances as seen by Ishar in the SR visions. Adhesion (possibly conjoined with Gravitation) can be used to affect pressure differentials, creating bubbles of still air. Bondsmiths can use Adhesion (possibly conjoined with Tension) to affect the spiritual, not just the physical.

While these may not all be using the same mechanism to achieve new results (though they may. We don't have enough info yet), they are certainly using something different than their basic Surges.

I've been wondering about Soulcasting specifically, as it feels like one of the higher potential Surges.

Normally, you alter an object's or being's Spiritweb to transform it into another physical essence, or to purge unwanted essences (like poison from the bloodstream). I wonder, could you edit a Spiritweb in more complex ways? You'd need a good visualization, but as meat, grain, and blood prove you don't need a perfect image of biology to make complex biological structures- it's the Intent matters more with Surgebinding, as Khriss would say (which does require a level of technical knowledge, but not a perfect one). Perhaps a Soulcaster who had a great deal of practice and medical knowledge could change a person's body in a way that Progression cannot achieve, such as adding muscles, limbs, or organs.

We've seen that Raboniel was able to begin corrupting and Unmaking the Sibling, and while she's pretty unique amongst the Fused (even having her own Rhythm) her main power is Transformation. I strongly suspect that her ability to corrupt Spren is directly related to her Surge, and I further suspect that other Surgebinders with enough power and know how could achieve a similar result.

That's actually really interesting.

I had always wondered about why the Sibling was so insistent about Raboniel having Transformation being important.

Solid theory.
