Aradan Liese, Underground, Meeting Place

Knocked to the side by the Brute, Aradan was dazed for a second. Quickly tapping gold to heal his bruise, he jumped up and pulled out a quarterstaff. It’s been a while since I’ve had to use this. Burning pewter and iron, he pulled on Cuvel’s belt buckle, causing him to stumble and pulling Cuvel towards Aradan. As a guard jumped on Aradan, he flared pewter and struck him, hard. Ribs cracked and dazed, the guard slammed into the wall. He then jumped while pulling on a light fixture in the ceiling. Landing right in front of Cuvel, he pointed a pistol at him.

Cuvel, Underground, Meeting Place

Cuvel was taken off guard by the Ironpull and lurched across the room towards Thavel's companion. He wasn't sure where this man had come from, but he certainly hadn't been expecting to deal with a Lurcher. As the man pulled out a pistol, Cuvel reached into his pocket and flung a hand full of coins into the air, then Pushed them straight towards him.

I will add some of these NPCs to the NPC page for easy reference now that I've revealed a decent amount about them.

Spoiler

I wasn’t sure when to pop in, but now’s a good time as any

Saitaku, Underground, Meeting Place

Saitaku hadn’t expected much from the meeting, some vague promises of power, maybe a recruitment drive. But this was not that. Whatever was attacking, this was all too similar to what had happened back on Scadrial. And in these, you never stood and fought, unless you knew you have superior numbers, you ran.

Saitaku grabbed the person next to them, his iron spikes easily let him pick them up to shield his body

@Steel Speedster

Spoiler

Also. I was thinking of forceably giving Saitaku his forth spike in the commotion, but not a iron one, as I don’t want him to be a Koloss yet

Aradan Liese, Underground, Meeting Place

“Agh!” Stumbling backwards, Aradan tapped gold to heal the wounds to his face and chest. He then dropped the pistol and delivered a swift blow to Cuvel’s forehead, knocking him to the floor and into unconsiousness. Hopefully that’ll last until the end of the fight. Pop. Pop. Two bullets tore through his leg. Previously, the audience was shocked, apprehensive. Now they panicked, the cave filled with echoing screams. Limping as health flowed through his veins, Aradan Pulled on the gun of the guard that had shot him. Pushing through the crowd, he flared pewter and dashed towards the guard, shattering his skull with his staff.

Quickly surveying the crowd, he saw another dark haired man fighting someone? Whatever. There are four more obvious guards, though I wouldn’t be suprised to see more hidden in the audience, plus the man Thav is fighting. I can’t afford to get stuck in a cadmium bubble, so he’ll have to handle him. Bashing fleeing audience members as he ran, Aradan Pulled weapons out of their hands. Thump. A guard who had tried to jump Aradan from behind got his ribs broken. Two more, one of them wielding a glass knife, cautiously approached. Turning to the side, Aradan swept one’s feet out from under them. Aghhh! Aradan’s pewter and iron vanished; more importantly, a dagger pierced through his gut. Spinning around, he conked the Leecher in the head, causing him to pass out.

Downing another vial, Aradan pulled the dagger out and healed the wound. Oh no, not much healing left. I knew I should have stored more. Looking up, he saw the last guard pull out a shotgun, when burning Iron, no lines pointed to it. Aluminum. Desparate, Aradan hurled his staff at the man, causing him to slump to the ground. Incapacitated or dead, Aradan couldn’t tell right now. Rolling over, Aradan reclaimed his staff and grabbed the shotgun. Loading it with a round, Aradan looked around to see what enemies remained. A man and a woman emerged from the panicked audience, most of whom had fled by now anyway, both wielding dueling canes. Bracing himself, Aradan crouched behind a chair.

How do you guys want this fight to resolve? I left open the option of Cuvel either getting captured, escaping, or potentially dying. Or, if you want, there could be more fighters hidden in the audience, and we all get captured.

I’m not sure, currently my plan was to have Saitaku get stuck in a fight, getting stabbed and potentially seriously wounded, before being able to limp away, but that could easily switch to being captured

Aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive. I don’t really have a clue what’s going on, so I want to see what SteelSpeedster thinks.

Also, my character has an interest in more “power” in order for “justice,” and is also kinda gullible. Maybe Saitaku could use Aradan for some malicious schemes, maybe get him involved with hemalurgy? It seems like the sort of thing Aradan would do. (Getting fooled and using hemalurgy I mean)

My guy is much more power centered. And yeah, he’d probably be willing to get Aradan into hemalurgy, but he’d need something to get out of it…

hmm, does Aradan know someone who conquered their struggle with mental health? I could see Saitaku trying to use a mental fortitude spike to get around the mind-numbing effects of a 4th iron spike.

Here, how about this guy. He’s morally questionable and a criminal, so after finding his story, Aradan should be fine with not letting him live. He can be a hidden guard in the audience. He’ll recognize Aradan, after which Aradan should question him. He’ll then taunt Aradan. He’s happy, married, enjoys his job as a criminal. He hasn’t “conquered a struggle with mental health” other than grief after he thought he had lost his wife, but he’s decently mentally healthy. (Other than probably a psychopath)

Killing him for a spike also gives the options of having Aradan feel ashamed and become more hero-like, stay as he is, or go down a darker path. To steal “mental fortitude, memory, and intelligence,” you will need a copper spike. At some point, if Saitaku keeps accumulating spikes, he might also need a linchpin spike. Perhaps this spike can be it.

Sorry for the confusion. I think Aradan would like to learn about Hemalurgy, but the copper spike, the mental fortitude you wanted is for Saitaku. If you're fine with that.

Perses, Alleys, Belias' Domain

Perses let out a deep breath and put his hand to his head, gun still in hand. "I don't have a use for someone like that, but if you do, he's all yours" I can't believe I'm doing this. "But if he runs and word gets out about all of this," Perses said, "Its on you."

With that, Perses walked into the haze and disappeared.

"Lux." Lux said, standing up. "And i'll do what it takes to survive."

Lux looked over to where the man disappeared, then looked back to Ebon. What did I get myself wrapped in with?

Ebonaryle, Alleys, Belias’ Domain

Ebon watched Perses go, numb. So that was it? That was all he had to say? Well. He could use a break right now.

”You’re coming with me,” he said, looking back at Lux. Then he looked up and spoke for Belias. “Can you find me an exit in the Mistwarrens?”

Ebon woulda been there the whole time. The explosion forced him out of the Transported form, although late enough that he wasn’t killed. I actually RPed him seeing Starseeker.

Starseeker, New Hallandren, New Hallandren Garrison

One other with a Nahel bond, Kaiden had said... who was he talking about? There weren't any other Radiants, and Starseeker did not see any reason one would lie about there being an extra Radiant. And one with Transportation, too. Starseeker also noticed that Kaiden had left out the Fused, and so he decided to do the same.

"I arrived first," Starseeker said. "And I began Soulcasting away the fires around the rim of the crater. When I returned from the Cognitive Realm, Kaiden and Cayasana were here. Fortunately, the explosion wasn't in a populated area."

Limel, New Hallandren, Garrison

The lack of mention of the husked-one confused Limel. The other witnesses had mentioned him… maybe they hadn’t thought he was that important. As the Returned finished, he butted in.

“What about the Fused?” No one answered at first, and he realized he’d spoken maybe a tad bit too loudly. He looked down, and carefully retracted his hand from the edge of the table and sat back down.

”I mean the Husked One,” he said, face flushed. “Some other witnesses mentioned him.”

Cayansa looked up with a start as the guard blurted out his questions. So there were other people who had mentioned the Fused. That would make bringing him up less awkward, they supposed.

They nodded slowly. "Yes, there was a Fused there. I didn't get to speak to him - I ... may have ran away screaming - but he didn't seem to be to blame? I think he had been injured a bit, but I wasn't the main person who spoke to him."

Cayansa glanced at Kai.

Thav, Underground, Meeting Cavern

"Where's your friend?" the Brute demanded, his muscles deflating. "The Steelrunner? I was expecting to have to put two of you down."

Thav didn't reply, but instead tapped zinc, thinking through his options. It was hard to tell what was happening outside as everything was moving blurringly fast, but it didn't seem like anyone was taking proper advantage of the situation to surround the bubble. Maybe Aradan was creating a distraction.

"Well?" the Brute repeated. "Is he skulking around out there?"

Thav looked up and grinned, hoping the bluff would work. The Brute seemed to realize that no one was coming to help him take care of Thav, and he turned in confusion to see what was holding them up. At that moment, Thav scrambled to his feet and dove for the edge of the bubble. The Brute spun back around, cursing and lunged for him, swelling with muscles again, but Thav was just beyond his reach.

As he passed through the barrier of the bubble, Thav tapped zinc, quickly taking in the three men waiting for him on the other side and brought down two with well-placed bullets, then nudged the other's gun aside with steel causing the shot to miss, and rammed into him with his shoulder, knocking him to the ground.

Time to leave, time to leave! He tapped zinc again, looking for a way out.

Fenna, Underground, Meeting Cavern

Fenna began storing weight and dashed forward as the other man Pulled Cuvel off the platform. She noted the latter's use of steel as he sent a spray of coins at his opponent before being knocked out cold. So, he's a Coinshot and a Soother...

She tracked her target's movement through the crowd, then leapt into the air, flying towards him. At the height of her jump, she tapped weight and dropped towards the man preparing a hefty kick.

@Qianweilian @Mistfallen Soldier

I was imagining that Thav and Aradan would have to run for it, considering how outnumbered they are. We could have them get split up in the process if you two wanted Aradan and Saitaku to meet. Capture is also an option. There are definitely enough organization enforcers present for that to happen. I'm probably going to have Thav escape--he's already an enemy of the organization, so things wouldn't go great for him if he got caught--but Aradan is completely unknown to them, so they would definitely be willing to give him a chance.

@Mistfallen Soldier if you wanted Saitaku to get injured, you could have him confront Thav as he tries to escape (or Aradan, but that might make it harder for them to interact like you were talking about, although it could work if Qianweilan wants to go the route of having Aradan get captured.)

So we have four characters here now? How many people are even in this cavern?

Aradan Liese, Underground, Meeting Place

“Oof!” Aradan fell, dropping the shotgun he held, head spinning. Oh no. I’ve made a terrible mistake in coming here. Blood drizzling down his face, he knew that he was on the edge of unconsciousness. What…was that? Something incredibly large or incredibly strong crashed into me. I have to get out of here. Tapping gold to heal only the most vital injuries and flaring pewter as hard he could, Aradan shakily rose. Blinking, he saw a cloaked woman approaching him with two disguised guards with canes. Pulling out another pistol, he aimed at—the gun was knocked out of his hands by one of the guards wielding a cane.

Stumbling back, Aradan grabbed at his quarterstaff, only coming up with splinters. (A rather large one of which stabbed him in the leg, but he doesn’t notice this right now.) This is bad. Pewter and gold the only reasons I’m still standing. Raising his fists, he punched one of the guards in the face, doing damage Aradan was too preoccupied to look at. While he did this, the other guard slammed his leg hard with a cane. Crack. Something’s broken. Probably more than one thing. That man got a fist in the face. A shot rang out in the air, from where he knew not. All Aradan knew was that it ripped through his thigh, embedding itself.

Looking up and delirious with pain, he noticed the lights embedded in the ceiling looked damaged, probably from he previous Pull. Pulling on them, he zipped up and grabbed the large chandelier. Scanning the room, Aradan saw many corpses and other shocked, dazed, stunned, and unconscious beings. Heh. At least I gave a fight. Men were shouting, more and more guards flooding into the cavern from direction whence he knew nothing about. Crack. The chandelier fell, and Aradan with it. Perhaps, perhaps I could have done better, even escaped, was I well rested and gold reserves filled. The cavern was plunged into darkness. He rose once again, grabbing the wooden shard out of his leg. He swung out blindly, hearing at least one scream. Slap. Recoiling from the unknown assailant, Aradan’s head hung, whether from resignation or exhaustion, he knew not. He rose again, only for another blow to strike him, body shuddering, ribs cracking. Strong arms came from behind, and held his arms tight. Metal reserves vanished from chromium, the man holding him began dragging him along some unknown path.

Everything

went

black.

Guess Aradan’s captured. Sorry, this just felt like the most reasonable outcome for him, he’s not exactly one to flee as easily as probably is best, and he got attacked unawares by Fenna. If Saitaku is captured, then we could do that together. SteelSpeedster, if you have a vision or idea for where they would bring me, please tell me. I don’t want to turn this into something it is not.

Yeah, I can work with this, Saitaku will get captured as well. It’ll make things easier.

Saitaku, Underground, Meeting Place

The person Saitaku had been squirming the entire time so far, not the best in these situations. Saitaku hit the person on the head, and threw them at some approaching people, trying to clear some room.

Other commotion was coming from differ parts of the place, and allomantic abilities were being used everywhere. Pushing through the mass of people, Saitaku felt a piece of metal pass through his left arm. Turning to face the attacker, he realized it was the result of some lurchers on the opposite side of the room.

Saitaku cursed, trying to run faster, but his arm was slowing him down. It wasn’t easy to ignore a chunk of metal in his arms, unlike his spikes.

Unfortunately a woman who had even stronger muscles than Saitaku stepped in front of him. Brute, Koloss-blooded, thug, any combination of those, this was bad. Nonetheless, Saitaku tried to sprint past the person, only to get hit so quickly, the woman had to be tapping steel.

Saitaku feared for his spikes, if he got hit like that in the chest… one or two might get dislodged, and that might be fatal…

that was his last thought… as a blow once again hit his head, knocking him into darkness.

Everything

went

black.

@Qianweilian There are just four player characters here.

I can transition us to a scene wherever they end up taking them. I'm a bit busy now, but I can probably post by this evening.

Belias, Alleys, Belias' Domain

Belias observed the exchange, amused. He could easily have killed the radiant, but it seemed the small ones didn't want that. Where was the radiant's spren? Oh, but spren were so delicious. Their power strengthened him, expanding his presence, both in the Alleys and on Alleyplanet.

“Can you find me an exit in the Mistwarrens?” Belias did not know why Perses bothered with such a creature. They were clearly weak, assisting only in the short term. He will never join the cause. Belias had half the mind to destroy both the radiant and the fused now, to save Perses the time. But his apprentice was already wary of Belias, and his trust was waning. Belias could always....no, he could not. Not yet. In time.

Belias shifted his realm to reveal an exit. "This will take you to the mistwarrens," He boomed.

Perses, Miskeep, Wickwillow Manor

Perses emerged into the heart of Wickwillow Manor, and he gained a new sense. Perses instantly felt the entire space of the Manor, with all of its mind-bending power. He could feel the floorboards, and could warp them to his will. In here, he felt like a god.

Het he knew it was not truly his. Belias could revoke this power at any time, and he would once more be ordinary. For now, he was a god. But how long would that last?

Belias' domain in Alleycity had expanded quite significantly over the year. Where it had just included the manor a year ago, the space now expanded to nearby houses, covering the entire block. Luckily this was in a fairly remote space of Mistkeep, but more and more people have been wandering into the Manor. Belias ensured that if they saw too much, they would never emerge.

Perses used the power of the manor to travel to the outskirts of Belias' domain in an instant. Like the Alleys, this place didn't obey the normal rules of space. He couldn't go beyond the bounds of Belias' control, but the matter within that space could be manipulated in any way he chose. A consequence of this, however, is that the objects that once acted according to the natural laws of the universe now...didn't. As he traveled, Perses knocked over a vase. Instead of falling to the ground, the vase kept its horizontal momentum, crashing into the wall, and splatting against the wallpaper. The shards of what used to be porcelain oozed down the side of the wall, in a jelly-like manner, some of it seeping into the wall. Perses didn't react. He had gotten used to never knowing what would happen when interacting with objects in the manor.

Perses opened the door to the outside, which acted normally. Both Belias and Perses had made sure not to interfere with any of the outside matter, as doing so would raise even more suspicion than Belias' presence was already accruing. Well, that was exhausting, Perses thought. Time for some tea.

Midas, New Hallandren, Garrison

Midas gave Limel a withering glare. He was utterly miserable at interrogation. He turned to look at the trio. "We know you all interacted with the Husked One. Unfortunately, the witnesses that we have spoken to so far were too far away to know what you had said to them." Midas leaned forward in his chair. "We want to know what you know about why the Fused caused the explosion at the crater, and why you're protecting them."

Jerrin, Smokestack, Hideout

"Normal people don't go in Alleys," Jerrin said. "Even to avoid being captured by the police. It's far too dangerous. Unless...you're the so-called 'Prince of the Alleys'..." He stood up and started pacing. "It all seems so random," he continued. "A Fused, an anti-Investiture explosion, Perses. I don't know why they would be connected, but I have a feeling they are. And whatever is happening, it isn't good."

Thav, Underground, Meeting Cavern

Thav turned his steel on, tracking pieces of metal around him. He couldn't tell for sure who might be Metalborn, but he could tell who wasn't. Unfortunately, most people in the cave had some metal on them, and it was difficult to tell if it was in the form of metal vial or metalminds, or mundane accessories. He kept his steel on to alert him of any sudden movements.

A man wearing a brown suit stepped up to the raised platform at one end of the cavern. Immediately, voices quieted down, and people began finding seats. Thav sat down in one of the rows near the back. "Welcome, friends," the man said, smiling broadly. "I hope that you have enjoyed this gathering so far." His eyes swept the room. "But I imagine, you all would like to know why you were invited here." He paused, letting the anticipation build.

Clearly a gifted speaker, Thav thought. But I don't think he's in charge of all of this. Just a spokesman.

"Allow me to introduce myself," continued the speaker. "You may call me Cuvel. You may not feel it yet, but I can see that there is great kinship between all of us in this room. I may not know you, but I know why you came. You were drawn by the rumors you've heard whispered about us. About what we are doing. All of us are here because of weakness."

There were some confused murmurs throughout the cavern, but Cuvel only grinned wider. "I do not say this to insult you, friends. We are all weak to begin with. Some of you may think you have power: perhaps you are an Allomancer, or a noble lord. Some of you know you have nothing. In our own ways, we are weak. We are here because we need more."

Many in the crowd were nodding, and Thav himself found himself considering what was being said. "We need more," Cuvel repeated. "to protect our friends; to provide for our families; to stand up for our own dignity. We need more!"

Thav found himself being swayed by the argument. He remembered the bodies of his allies--dead because he was too weak. Useless. Come on, keep it together, he told himself. He's just trying to manipulate us.

Fenna, Underground, Meeting Cavern

Fenna still leaned against the wall near the cavern exit. Cuvel's words seemed to be resonating with his audience. She found herself agreeing. He certainly-- Wait...

Fenna smiled. She could feel a faint touch on her emotions. An old strategy, but undoubtedly effective.

Skye whistled through her teeth. Or at least made that sound. "Damn. Perses. I thought he was done with his shenanigans for a bit. But if he's trying to get Ebon indebted to him somehow or something... Damn." She stood back here up and stretched a hand out to shake Jerrin's. "Thank you, Jerrin. You've been incredibly helpful as always. I owe you one. That's a promise."

She turned to a ribbon of light and flited out the window. "Gotta go tell Kai this!"

"He's got no love for the Crimson Breath and nothing against you or New Hallandren, and he didn't cause that explosion. Hell, I'm not even convinced it was anti-light. More likely anti-breaths, considering the organization's location." He sat back, calming a bit. "And don't call him 'the fused.' He's a person like the others here. Call him Nex-im, if anything."

Skye slipped through corners and cracks around doors till she found Kai. "Kai!" She said to him alone, "The awakener that went into that Alley was Perses, according to Jerrin. Ebon and Lux went into the same Alley."

Midas detected no tells. The radiant seemed to earnestly believe what they were saying. Midas had to admit that it was possible to have a reformed fused, but he would believe it when he saw it.

His lifesense alerted him to the presence of a spren entering the interrogation room. Such a thing shouldn’t have been possible with the door closed, as the aluminum lining should have prevented it. That was a good sign this room needed an inspection done on it. The spren approached the radiant he was talking to, and though he couldn’t fully see what the spren was doing, he could guess. “What did the spren tell you?” Midas asked, more harshly than he intended. Being unable to know what was being said annoyed him.

“I can tell when you’re lying, and if needed, we can detain your spren and interrogate it separately.” Midas hated dealing with Radiant Spren, but the job sometimes demanded it. “Ideally, your spren would turn visible and tell me themselves.” He turned to the other spren in the room. “That goes for you too”
