DeathcoreDad Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Hello. I met Treamayne on a Dungeon Crawler Carl Discord server talking about the Cosmere and he sent me here. I am new to Sanderson and picked Way of Kings as my first dip into the world. In my youth I read mostly Dragonlanc novels and my brother got me into Wheel of Time which regrettably I still to this day have not finished. The first time I read the books I stopped around Book 4 and then back in 2023 I started again from New Spring and currently stopped at finishing Book 9 Winters Heart. I do plan on making a goal in 2026 to finish that series once and for all. I jump around a lot in types of books I enjoy. I love everything from Stephen King to Star Wars and back again. Im currently read the Red Rising series on Book 2. The Sun Eater series on Book 3 and He Who Fights With Monsters im on Book 3 as well there. Last year I read 55 books and was planning on trying to read 100 this year. my first book of 2026 happens to be Way of Kings my first foray into the Cosmere. I was told to start with Mistborn but I chose Way of Kings. I joined this forum to learn more about the series and try to make some friends and have discussions about it. Im really enjoying Way of Kings so far. It’s a slow build up but good so far. Im definitely excited. 3
KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren He/Him Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Welcome! Good to see another Red Rising fan. Who's your favourite character in Way of Kings so far?

Depsite all of his denials, he is a citation god. Shard of WoBs and holder of infinite knowledge, if you have a question, he has an answer, a citation, and a 5 paragraph essay, (or a RAFO) and he will go through with you and help you understand it all (while citing every known source). He will tell you why you are wrong, clairify information on a theory, or agree with your findings. Sorry about that rant... ANYWAY! Questions... What do you know of the Radiants so far? Do you like dragons? (Not book specific, just in general)
Through the living Wahr He/Him Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Hi, I also started my cosmere journey with way of Kings, because the stormlight books where the only Cosmere books in the bookstore I went to, when I wanted to start the Cosmere, so what was your reason tho choose Way of Kings over Mistborn?

That's a lot of books, nice job! I also started with Way of Kings, though I didn't know about the Cosmere right away. I honestly think it's fine that you didn't read Mistborn first. "I joined this forum to learn more about the series and try to make some friends and have discussions about it" That's one of the reasons I joined as well! There are lots of great people and discussions to be had. @Treamayne is practically an admin/moderator in my opinion (which is a good thing), since he always helps out new users, find WoBs and quotes (WoBs are "Words of Brandon," and are basically Brandon's answers to fan questions at conventions, livestreams, signings and such. They often clarify things and can have very useful information.) Here's a question for you: do you have a favorite (or few top favorite) books that you have read? What in Way of Kings do you find most interesting so far?

Glad to have you here- Welcome to the Shard. 9 hours ago, CoderDrag0n8 said: Sorry about that rant... 6 minutes ago, Theory said: There are lots of great people and discussions to be had Well, my role in both communities is similar. I'm lucky enough to have easy access to searching the books for references, and I enjoy answering questions (not entirely altruistic - it's how I learn and memorize lore - Kinetic Learner). So, it seems obvious that I should practice looking things up by helping to answer questions or clarify informaion, when I can. I just wish DCC had a forum too. . . I really do not like Discord as a book discussion platform (It's great for what it does, but this is not something it does well). 6 minutes ago, Theory said: I love Dungeon Crawler Carl, though I've only read the first book. Any reason why you stopped at book 1? Or just not ha the chance yet. I almost DNFed the series. A friend loaned Book 1 to me and, when I finished and found out it was Kindle-Exclusive, I stopped reading. Had I not found teh Patreon as an Amazon-free way to continue the series I would not have done so. Of course, we now have the Ace Hardcovers and trade editions - but, unfortunately, digital remains behind an Amazon-Wall (except the Patreon ePubs). Edited January 13 by Treamayne SPAG

I just looked up "kinetic learner" since I don't remember hearing that term before, and it suggested "kinesthetic learner." 5 minutes ago, Treamayne said: I just wish DCC had a forum too Yeah, that would be nice. 5 minutes ago, Treamayne said: Any reason why you stopped at book 1? Treamayne Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Just now, Theory said: Was this supposed to be "kinesthetic learner"? I just looked up "kinetic learner" since I don't remember hearing that term before, and it suggested "kinesthetic learner." Probably. When I was tested I learned the three primary learning styles were "Visual, Auditory and Kinetic" (90s). Kinesthetic is probably the better conjugation for that context, but I wrote it as I learned it and was not thinking (obviously).
