Theory: Chaos is a Chaos.

Actually, I don't have any idea who Financier is. I couldn't find him/her in the Epics of Oregon thread, and he/she hasn't appeared in the RP I have read. (I've read the whole Dalles thread, but I'm still only 28 pages into Portland.) So my idea was that Chaos had a magma-controlling power, and that these were actual volcanic islands that he raised. But if the Financier would work better, that's even better!

He'll be my Astoria character, but Procrastinatoria has been keeping me from remembering to add his bio to my EoA post. His favorite defensive move is quantifying a threat (number of bullets) and multiplying it by zero to erase it from existence. And he's a resurrection Epic who sees numbers as increasingly violent living entities with each death.

How does he make islands?

How does he make islands?

If he was needed for that purpose, he could multiply dirt particles and other island materials exponentially until he had a nice little island. Vegetation would be an issue, and another Epic would need to provide that and perhaps solidify the foundation. Having another a Epic raise the islands through volcanic control makes more sense, though.

True. Though the "price" of that power is equal-and-opposite reaction (in this case, a powerful enemy in exchange for a powerful friend) so it wouldn't be a fair trade in the first place. Maybe a fairer trade would be Funtimes for the Financier, or vice versa. Both have strong, strange powers, both are pretty neurotic, and you probably wouldn't want either one as an enemy.

My problem is in no way the balancing of the power but purely the part where its entire point is to take away other people ability to decide what their characters would do in a situation. It´s one thing for an powerful Epics to hold the proverbial gun to someone´s head but I know that the moment someone tells me that my character now feels this and I don´t have a choice in the matter I´ll stop having fun at this.

On another matter: Does Chaos instinctively know which weakness he just got and does a weakness only affect the power it came with?

That and Order isn´t suppossed to be anywhere near Astoria at the moment from what I understood.

Good point. I don't think mail-mi said what the limit there is, but I think an appropriate one might be range (they feel more strongly when they're closer) prior inclinations (like with Ari, it's more effective with people predisposed to like the child) and of course free will (once a character realizes they feel more warmly toward the child when they're closer and apathetic when far away, they realize they're being manipulated). When one or more of those limitations are in play, the child's powers cease being effective on that character and perhaps any other character who believes said character's story about the manipulative child. If those limitations were in effect, that would make the child much less of a story breaker and make the powers more dangerous, as once s/he tried to manipulate Lucentia the jig would be up.

Does that sound more manageable?

Plus, then he could make them erupt if somebody is attacking his island, which would be pretty awesome.

Yes, and yes.

Exactly.

Details on Chaos Godforge:

Power: Control over magma (not lava, magma).  He can make islands and volcanoes, but once he makes the volcanoes erupt and the magma is exposed to air, he cannot control it anymore, nor is he immune to it.

Specific Weakness:  Whenever someone mixes up the words "lava" and "magma", he must drop everything and correct them.

Those, especially the free will one sound a lot better.

I´m not sure if it counts as much of a weakness if it doesn´t even affect his powers.

Oh, right.  Maybe it should also make all magma or lava within a certain radius of him harden to cold stone.

Kobold, do you still need some time for the Sam post or should Mailliw go ahead and have Altermind give introductions?

Agh, I still need a little time.

How 'bout this: if I don't get a chance to get it fully written by next Monday, I'll just scrap what I had immediately planned and Mailliw can go next.

There's always Unobservant!Sam, who is ready and willing to help once you tear her attention away from that bird over there.... :P

The answere to everything. (Although his last comment sounded like he has more planned.) Next monday souds more than fine to me, worst case scenario I´ll be the one stopping it then, because I´ll be gone for the majority of next week.

And if i´m already nagging you, what about Arsenal´s answer?

If we ever get stuck....

"Wow," Nathan said. "I can't believe Oregon is really destroyed."

Sam looked up in surprise. "It is?"

"You didn't see the part where Chaos Godforge blew up Astoria?"

"Uh...no."

"Or the time when Lightwards raised Kurt Cobain and he tore down Salem with nothing but grunge rock?"

"Sorry."

"Don't tell me you missed the part where Nighthound died."

"He did?"

Nathan gave her a long look. "Don't take this the wrong way, Sam, but how have you survived this long?"

I had it almost entirely written up the day before yesterday, but lost it. :( I'll get on it as soon as I take care of some RL errands in a minute.

We should save this and call it the Trattner Contingency Plan, so we sound competent and official in front of new players. :P

Don´t be so hard on her Nathan, I´m sure she at least noticed the humanoid Panda army."

"Wait, what?"

"Or the dragon surounded by sparkles."

"Maybe I need glasses."

"...I got nothing."

Well, that sucks. :(

Sure, I´m gonna file it between "Nighthound´s death variant 387" and the Epic file for "Awesome Sword."

Funtimes bounced on the balls of her feet. "Look, Sammy! Look look look waaaaayyyyy over there!"

Sam squinted. "What am I looking at?"

"The most amazingly amazing Christmas light show ever! I didn't set it up but whoever did is a genius!" She squealed. "Ooohhhhh it's so so pretty!"

"Uh, yeah," Sam said, squinting again. "Sure looks nice."

Funtimes turned on her with a look like horror. "You can't see it? It's the most incredible thing I've seen in—like—twenty minutes and you can't see it?"

"Uh…."

Sam was quickly teleported back to the cottage, where Funtimes transfigured a pair of black cats-eye glasses and an alphabet chart, and an eye doctor stood beside both, looking slightly dazed. For the next hour, she changed the lenses back and forth until Sam could successfully read the bottom line of the chart, which read Penguins Make Excellent Babysitters When You Feed Them Spaghetti.

There you go. :P

So the Astoria thread is starting in January, and we still need to get the CorpseMaker war started. Should we hammer out a rough, spoiler-free timeline of events so we can make sure to hit them all before moving on to the next logical points in the story? (Alternatively, we could cover only those events through coordinated time-skips.)

Kobold and I have a certain character killing that we have planned for the war, but I'm not sure when exactly. The Black Fist also needs to get somewhat through the plan. Part of that depends on if the War will destroy Portland completely.

Also, Gordon post is Up, Finally. Trying to Cow Remington into Submission. That's not going to work.

Twi, do you want to do Remington's response first and then I'll do Max's?

Well, Altermind wants to stay in Portland, so what if he recruits ToyMaker rather than assassinate her? She'll work for anyone as long as she's allowed to keep her toys. The only thing keeping her with CorpseMaker is his control over Upgrade.

If the above were to happen, there wouldn't be a fallout. Portland would become Thoughtown, and the Empire would cease to exist.

EDIT: Wait, no, Cause Lightwards will have an army of Zombie Toys by then.

Ohhhh, I like that a lot. :)

Agh, I still need a little time.

Way better than my vague idea of an Epic whose sole power is inhibiting other people's eyesight and making them need glasses. :P Upvote!

No one should be blind to Christmas lights. :D

Who? Who could it be? Let's see, it involves both your characters, and it can't be anyone we have plans for....

O.O

FLASHPOINT AND INTERVENTION ARE GOING TO KILL SAM!

:P I actually have no idea.

Hey TwiLyght! Congrats on reaching 5000 rep.  I just upvoted this post.

I'm a Worldhopper now. Worldhoppers are cool.

(Thanks! :D)

I just imagined the Doctor saying that, but then it didn't make sense because he's always been a worldhopper.
