Through the Living Hope Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 Spoiler @Sherma Main The interviewer led Warinal to an overly plush seat before signaling to activate the camera. “Greetings, General Warinal. I trust you are doing well?” Warinal absently nodded, staring at the camera. The interviewer laughed. “Now, your character has come under fire recently, ever since you were chosen as a Gamemaker. What do you have to say to the various allegations that have been raised?” The General’s face twisted slightly, before it set on a calm expression. “All I have to say is that if anyone felt slighted by me by my rise in position, I don’t blame them. I was an outsider, and I was a rebel. They had every right to be unbelieving, even rude. But I have done nothing of the sort I’m accused of. And I’m genuinely hurt that these lies have gotten this far.” “You mentioned your identity as a rebel for a bit there. Mind telling your story for listeners who aren’t aware?” The General thought for a moment before speaking. “Of course. I… I was not always loyal. As a boy, everyone around me was joining the rebellion. And I… well, there wasn’t anyone at home. I didn’t have food, and I didn’t have money, and those that would have helped or hired me had gone. So… I joined.” He frowned. “I’m not proud of it, and I wasn’t hating of the Capitol in the slightest. But I had no choice… I remember thinking as a boy, ‘When can I get out? When can I stop?’ Because, I wanted to be loyal. I so badly wanted to be loyal. I couldn’t. I kept looking for an opportunity to break, until finally… I found one. You see? I ‘defected’ to the Capitol, and began supplying information until I fully switched. Since then… I’ve been working my way. Doing what I could. The interviewer nodded. “Thank you, General, for that recollection. I’m so very glad for your contribution to the Capitol. I think that is en-“ As the interviewer began to wrap up, he turned to the side, where one impatient someone was holding a board for him to read. “Err… sorry, I just got news. Are you aware that a rebel prisoner slandered your name?” “I… yes, I am aware. Again, though I may understand their jealousy, I cannot understand these lies.” “Well… The prisoner recently reaffirmed the charge under intensive interrogation. Do you believe the lie possible through the Capitol’s technology?” The General stared at the interviewer for a time. “…Call it what it is. The rebel was tortured, as they should be. To answer your question, though, I absolutely believe it. Err… when I was in service for… their side, I… I had no idea what drove them. What pushed them through the snow, through the heat, through whatever conditions required them. I don’t know what pushed them through the hunger. And… I don’t know if they’re still… like us. My parents were of Capitol blood, mind you. Whatever allows them to do what they did, I think it would more than allow them to lie under torture.” The interviewer called, nodding. “Of course. Thank you for your time, General. That’s enough, now.” Spoiler Name: Ken Warinal Description: Tall, black hair. Grim, cruel, and slightly sadistic. He’s got a limp. Backstory: He was a veteran of the war (Does that match chronologically?). Thing is, he fought on the other side. He rose up in the ranks, but then… he saw an opportunity. He began to supply secrets to the Capital, until he fully defected when offered a position of some power. With it, he supplied them with vital information. He was honored on the other side, and made his way up the ranks until and after the end of the war. He was shot in the leg during the war, a wound that didn’t heal. Age: 54 Spoiler @Uninteligenius He was so close. He could feel it. Spartus stepped back from his solitary lab table and reached for the test tube of zephyr spores. In doing so, he almost knocked over his erlenmeyer flask. He would have to organize his cluttered lab table sometime, but he never seemed to have the time. Suddenly, the double doors at the end of the room opened, and another one of those annoying interviewers walked in, followed by a cameraman. Why would they disturb him when he was so close to another discovery? He glanced down at his watch and realized that four hours had passed since he had last checked, and it was indeed time for his interview. Spartus waved the man over to a pair of seats towards the end of his lab table. It would be best if the world saw him as a polite gentleman. “Mr. Thiggens, how goes your work with the spores?” “I’m doing quite well, thanks to my appointment by the president. I’ve been able to learn so much more with this advanced equipment.” As he spoke, he gestured towards the table, which was scattered with chemistry tubes, vials of spores, and an assortment of screens and wires at the end of the table. “So what exactly do you do?” “Let me show you.” Spartus set down the zephyr spores and picked up three smaller vials, each with only one spore inside. “I’ve always been fascinated with spores.” He used a pair of miniature tweezers to insert all the spores into a glass sphere. “The sheer possibilities that come from the near infinite combinations.” Spartus turned the sphere over and lifted a pipette to the sphere, and then dropped a single drop of water into a small cubey at the top. He suddenly turned away from the interviewer and threw the sphere with all his might at the far wall, which was reinforced by steel plates. As the sphere connected with the wall, a flash of light exploded outwards, and a loud boom echoed around the room as the wall bent outwards and gave way to enormous red spikes. The interviewer looked towards the far wall in shock. He slowly turned back towards Spartus and after a short pause continued with the interview. “How did you become the president's personal spore scientist?” “Well a while back, when I first got into spores, I started my own company to research them, Magic Spores Incorporated. We slowly grew until we were the biggest spore company in the country. But then that civil war happened and when the president came into power, she wanted to see what could really be done with spores so he had the government take over the company. She pretty much supplies us with crazy up-to-date technology, and now we work for the government, me being her personal spore scientist.” The interviewer nodded along, “Before I let you get back to your experiments, could I ask you what your stance is on the upcoming games?” Spartus looked up with a fire in his eyes. “I look forward to the games with excitement. Not only will we be able to see them fight but we will also be able to do live tests on some of my newer discoveries.” Spartus turned back to his work and picked up his zephyr spores. He was so close. He could feel it. Spoiler Name: Spartus Thiggens Description: tall, skinny, curly brown hair, kinda quiet until you get to know him Backstory: Was the head scientist for Magic Spores Inc® before the government took them over. He continued to work and rose the ranks, using both legal and illegal means, until he became the president's head spore scientist. He was asked to oversee the games and graciously accepted, hoping to see lots of explosions and things blowing up. Age: 28 Other: He loves to blow things up; this is partially what led him to become a spore scientist Spoiler @Spark of Hope Oreal leaned slightly forward on his cane. He did not apply the cream today. No, the Capitol was to see the kindly old man, the front he put on as long as they stayed in line. He’d lined up a separate interview to be televised to the districts, one with the cream applied. An interviewer stepped into the room. Oreal kept his back to them for now. He gazed out the window over the city. He would not be seeing this view for quite some time. It was necessary for him to take it all in now while he could. The young woman cleared her throat quietly. “Pardon me, Sir Parrotrees. The.. interview?" “Yes, of course.” He swiveled, a kindly smile lighting up his face. Leaning on his cane, he slowly made his way towards the sitting area. He’d had the Avoxes specially arrange this room for the interview. It was perfect. After he’d sat himself, an effort that was nearly painful for the reporter to watch, she sat as well. She was intimidated, it was written all over her face. She must be new. “Sir Parrotrees, the new President has appointed you Head Gamemaker this year. Would you mind telling us a bit about that?" “Of course. President Rosegaze… She’s a very ambitious woman. Determined to be the best. Gamemade last year, herself. Well, after the.. unfortunate and untimely passing of our former president, she graciously offered to take the position for the remainder of the term with no opposition.” “What can you tell us about this year's games? The first Quell since the civil war… It’s quite the honor to be made Head Gamemaker!" Oreal chuckled. “Very little, I’m afraid. The President wishes everything to be a surprise. The Quell is a very special event, riddled with surprises. It would be a shame on me to ruin the surprise." “I see. Well, without revealing too much…" He moved his head to the side, stretching out his neck. There was a small popping noise. “All I can say is that this arena will be unlike any other. It will be different. This will be our best Games yet. I shall insure it for our President." “Before the Games, you were most known for your work in the industry of skincare of various kinds. Since before the war started, you were performing a study of plants in the unclaimed lands. It must have been quite the shift to jump that far!" “Ah, not at all. You see, it is because of my work in the scientific field that she requested my presence." “You don’t say?" Oreal nodded. “The plants I discovered proved to be incredibly useful for the Games. The Arena will be one of the most stimulating. Neither the tributes nor their watchers will know what to expect." “Well, we’ll all be looking forward to seeing your contributions to this year’s Quell! Thank you for your time, Sir Parrotrees." “Of course." The cameras cut, and the crew left. He pushed himself to his feet, leaning on his cane, and made his way to his greenroom. The cream waited for him there. He carefully applied a glove and dipped the tips of his pointer and middle fingers into the cold, smooth cream. Just a bit would be enough. Intimidation was what he wanted, not fear. He spread the cream into an even layer across his face. The figure in the mirror quickly became one not to be laughed at. Yes, this was the face he would show to the districts. This was the face he would show the tributes. This was the face that would rule the Games Spoiler Name: Sir Oreal Parrotrees Appearance: Thinning white hair, cold gray-blue eyes, has a healthy weight. Backstory: A scientist who spent years researching flora in the Unclaimed Lands. In his researching, he found a plant containing a hallucinogen. He created a lotion for himself using this hallucinogen that makes him incredibly intimidating to those who see him. Age: Unknown The games will begin on Monday, around 12 p.m. mountain time. Prepare yourselves, or what you fear will find you. 1
