Long Game 109: The Lords of Luthadel

I don't love a Day One Village death, especially one that I contributed to. Disliking KSauce and Penguin at the moment, but that is purely vibes based.

LG109 - Day Two: The Woes of Automation

(Totally not a jab at Twin and Chatgpt)

Dedri sighed. It was getting too late for him. Ever since the Lord Ruler’s fall, it had been constant work, and as a result, he was getting more and more tired. Not ideal for the Emperor’s advisor, but it was something he had to work for. It also was frustrating to reside in Keep Venture, seeing as it was one of the coldest buildings in the city, full of winding cold stone hallways. It didn’t help sensible folk to be uncomfortable, but that made sense for the Ventures. Straff had always been ridiculously arrogant, not unlike R2D2.

Dedri sighed. It had been a shame. R2D2 had been honest. They had tried to bring him back, but he had already left the city. Ashamed, apparently.

He stopped, seeing a lantern glow in the distance. He tensed, terrified, until he saw the face. Elend. His Emperor.

“Greetings, my Lord.”

Elend nodded to him. Dedri frowned. That was . . . unlike Venture, to say the least. He was always very vivacious.

“My Lord?”

“Dedri?” Elend glanced at him. Yes, something was wrong with him. He could see the eyes. Hollow.

“My Lord? What happened?”

“There was . . . an assassin. Mistborn. Came for me. He got scared off by my security but —” He paused.

Dedri frowned. He knew Elend’s Mistborn to be competent, but he faced assassins every day. This was no different. Why was he so shocked?

“In the fight, the Mistborn, he . . . found another target. It was an accident, mostly. Scrap metal from the fight. Sharp though. It . . . he killed him.”

Dedri gasped. “Who?” When Elend did not respond, he grabbed his shoulders. Improper, to be sure, but the situation demanded it. “Who?” he shouted in his face.

“Your Mistakes. Shrapnel, through the heart.”

Lord Ruler. Lord Ruler.

Dedri staggered backwards. The assassins . . . they had gone too far.

“My Lord . . . Elend . . . Your Mistborn . . . has she found anything?’

Elend gazed at him blankly, but frowned. “No. I will . . . we will . . . settle this in court. Message the Lords. The speeches continue.”

Dedri sighed. Those ideals. Those rusting ideals. “All the Lords?” he tried, hoping to bring something else up. Not that it mattered in the wake of the murder.

Elend frowned. “What do you mean?”

“Well sir, Lord Capone . . . you know as well as I do, he has ties to crime! The Metal —”

Elend cut him off. “Dedri, it doesn’t matter. Summon the Lords. All of them. My father’s spies . . . they’ll be gone by evening.”

Tin Capone ignored the bickering of the nobles. They put on a pretty face for the common folk, but they showed their crude manners and poor judgment behind closed doors. They were hardly worth listening to.

Instead, Tin Capone listened to his pollsters, who had been collecting information on which nobles were most favored.

His primary informant had yet to arrive, but one of the lesser members of his organization approached. The man used… unconventional methods with unpredictable results.

“What is it?” He asked underneath the clamor of nobles.

“Yeah, um, Mr, uh, I mean Lord Capone sir, I have my results from the automatic polling stations. It took me hours, but it should be correct,” the man replied, a ball of nerves.

Tin Capone tore the proffered paper from the man's hand. He didn't care what his underlings called him, so long as they were respectful and actually rusting picked one. “These are ridiculous, they can't possibly be right.”

The man paled, “That's what the machine said, Lord Capone.”

Capone tossed aside the papers. “Useless.”

Some time later, his most reliable pollster arrived. The man was grimy, covered in ash and showing signs of hard labor. “I've been among the people, sir.”

“What are your findings?” Capone asked, looking at his own notes.

The man shared his numbers from memory. Capone smiled, such an efficient worker, he thought. They largely matched his, other than a few inconsistencies. Between the two, he felt he had a good grasp of the situation.

Lord Markus was still half-drunk as he stumbled into the dawn’s first light. He had to… had to warn them… had to leave the message… Markus tripped over his own feet, and collapsed into darkness.

He awoke to the sounds of murmurs. People surrounded him, discussing a… murder? Yes. A chill dan down Markus’s spine. Lord Your Mistakes had been murdered. And Markus…

Markus was still alive.

Well, that hadn’t been expected.

The previous night, Markus had stayed up making preparations. He had first reached out to Renalis, asking for Guards. Had he received them? In his drunken stupor, perhaps he would never know. He had then reached out to several other Lords, hinting he did not plan to protect himself. His plan had been to bait the assassination attempt, and put Renalis to the test.

If he died, Renalis should have been proven elim. If he lived, he would have thought Renalis cleared. It had been a dangerous plan, but Markus had been prepared to put his life on the line for his new kingdom. There was only a single problem:

He had forgotten to leave the message warning the council. He had had it ready, prepared to publicly post right before the night turned to day. But in the hour before the event, he had had a wine too many, and all his plannings were dissolved in the daze of the drink.

Well. It had worked out in the end, he supposed. As per his original plan, he should now consider Renalis almost certainly innocent. He had told Renalis explicitly he planned not to hide behind his own hired shields, and the other man had had the chance to slay him. He had not done so. But… things still nagged at Markus.

His plan to bait the kill hadn’t worked. There were three he hadn’t messaged. Kelion, Penguin, and Lady Cricket. But it was possible someone he had messaged merely hadn’t believed him, or had seen through his ruse. And so it was possible Renalis had done the same, believing Markus would set his own guards despite being told he wouldn’t.

All in all, the Lord could not imagine a worse world in which he lived. Even the man he had chosen to block,Your Mistakes, was now revealed dead and innocent.

Wonderful.

Rusting wonderful.

Ruler of the Mists

Perhaps he could do with a couple drinks more.

It seemed the villains were still skulking in the shadows. They had not chosen to target Markus, and instead targeted someone not very talkative. To be frank, Markus's plan was a touch too egotistical to ever actually work. Regardless of any hidden messages, Markus was the likely target for any form of protection. Thus, to avoid any chance of blockage, they chose a weaker target.

That kill did paint a prime suspect in Sart's mind though. IcedPenguin. Your Mistakes made a key vote retraction, putting Penguin in danger of a tied vote, with not much time left in the day. In anger, perhaps the haughty lord killed the weak target in revenge.

Players:

Well, that's an interesting kill. I thought for sure Hoid was going to die.

Well, I don't know what to make of this now.

Reads (I'm only going to do this with players I've got strong reads on):

Hoid: Strongly village, there is a small chance he could've built this all up and been surprised when he didn't get killed. I don't think that's likely, though.

Newt: Village not quite as strongly as Hoid, I'm fairly convinced they're the same alignment.

Sart: Slight Elim read, I think a E!Sart ≠ E!Newt + E!Hoid.

Ruler: Ruler is in an interesting spot, I thought Elim, but something feels wrong with this kill tonight, and I don't think they're an Elim. This is my most confusing read so far; my read will probably change several times throughout this cycle. And some more posts from you would be nice.

Everyone else: I either have a slight lean in either direction, but nothing strong, or no read because they haven't posted enough *cough* dp, KSauce *cough*

Final thoughts: I think Ruler and Sart have the same Alignment. I think Newt has the opposite alignment of Sart (it would explain why neither of them would've died, being the next obvious choice after Hoid, as killing either would implicate the other). Hoid and Newt are probably the same alignment. That means there's one Elim in any of dp, Akimiko, or KSauce (A little more posting from you would be helpful)

Edit: Forgot to vote, Sart

Edit 2: Added some things to my reads

Kellion heard the frantic shouts of his guards before the doors burst open.

“Prophet! There was an assassination last night. Lord R2D2 has been murdered!”

Kellion turned slowly from his prayer mat, his voice calm despite the chaos simmering around him.
“Quite timely that you come now, just as I am finishing my prayers. I will include Lord R2D2 in them.”

“You are most generous, my Lord,” said Mat, bowing deeply. He was devout, unwavering in the ways of the Survivor. “But you must think of your own safety. The Nobility who worship the Tyrant hate you. You will be their next target.”

“Fear not,” Kellion replied, his eyes steady and serene. “I am protected by the Survivor. He will shield me from all harm. Now leave me, for a few moments more, so I may finish my prayers.”

“As you command, my Lord,” Mat murmured, touching his hands to his temples in reverence.

When the chamber fell silent again, Kellion allowed himself a small smile.
The Survivor was already clearing the path—destroying the unholy and the impious Nobility who had brought so much suffering.

He decided then. He knew exactly who needed to be dealt with if the world was ever to change—truly change—into a place without class, without divisions carved into the bones of society.

The pompous Lord Hoid Slayer had to go. The arrogant drunk had sat in power far too long, rotting the realm from the inside. Only by removing him could the rule of the people be restored.

Elend… yes, Elend was a weak leader, but his ideals matched Kellion’s. They pointed toward a better world. Yet even so, if you let snakes roam freely, they will bite sooner or later. They would poison this one as well, if Kellion did nothing.

And Kellion would not let that happen.

Not while the Survivor guided his hand.

First off, R2D2 was not murdered; CD was. Second off, why do you think Hoid did it? You failed to explain it.

You have once again failed to explain any of your reads, and I am vastly confused by this.

So I will go ahead and revise my read on you

Ruler: Strong Elim read. Has shown up twice, contributed nothing, and voted someone out of the blue. I think this stinks of another Elim telling him to vote for somebody, but not why, so he has no reason to explain why. It confuses me greatly.

I do not think he has a strong enough reason to vote for someone who most of us(or just me) are very sure is a village. So for that, I willl shift my vote from Sart to Ruler

Goodness me! We keep dropping like flies, I mutter, carefully adjusting the delicate lace of my cuff as another ripple of unease snakes through the room. I push my glasses up the bridge of my nose. I can’t trust these people to actually find the killer, you need someone… more qualified. My gaze sweeps over the gathered nobility, each face a mask of practiced indifference, barely hiding the fear and suspicion that now clings to us like a heavy shroud.

I had thought that being a lady in this more stable time would be nice but… seemingly not. The supposed stability of the court is a brittle illusion, shattered by the cold reality of steel and ash. It reminds me of the old stories, only now we wear silks instead of roughspun, and the daggers are sharper, their presence unspoken but felt by all. The stakes are our very lives, not just a scrap of territory or a title.

First, the absurdity of it all. Lord R2D2—truly, what were his parents thinking?—stripped of his title with a casual wave of the hand, his influence evaporating like mist under the midday sun. A clear message, a public shaming that served only to tighten the noose of paranoia around our necks. We all saw it, and we all felt the unspoken threat: no one is safe from the Ruler's capricious judgments.

And now, the unthinkable: Lord Your Mistakes a man whose very name was a testament to someone's lack of foresight, found dead. Oh, the audacity of these spies. It is a calculated move, meant to sow discord and fear. This isn't just about some game; this is about power, about control, about who ultimately holds the strings in this gruesome dance.

I sip my wine, the sweet liquid a stark contrast to the bitter taste of fear. My mind races, piecing together the subtle shifts in allegiance, the whispered conversations, the glances that linger a moment too long. This entire affair is tainted.

I just can’t shake the feeling that Ruler is hiding something from us. We are merely pawns in a much larger, far more dangerous political battle. They want us to turn on each other, to weaken our alliances, while they consolidate their own power. I will not be played for a fool. The real killer, the true puppet master, is much closer than any of us dare to admit, and Ruler is, at the very least, complicit in the deception. We must look beyond the obvious, the scapegoats presented to us, and see the truth for what it is. And the truth is, we are on our own.

Also, not loving the train on Ruler, but let’s see how it evolves
