IcedOutPenguin He/Him Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 I crouched atop the roof, bolt rifle in one hand, waiting for Uleie to pop out of the building below. I didn't know what taking out the most infamous crime lord in the 22nd sector would do. But I was paid to do, not to care. It's got to be getting close to the time he leaves. I thought, but the job paid well enough that I didn't care if I had to wait here all night. I heard a soft click from behind me. I knew it belonged to an 8e0 pistol. How'd he get one of those? They are only sold topside and are one of the most expensive available. "I didn't get to be boss by being stupid." Said a voice from behind me. "Who hired you?" They asked. "Well, they paid really well, I should probably keep their identity a se-"Who hired you?" They repeated. "Tell me, and I might just let you live." "Biral, sector 15." I could feel the amusement in the voice. "That old prick? Why do you work for him?" He asked. "Well, he pays better-"Don't give me that nonsense. Wegul has the most money." He repeated in the same tone. "Why do you work for Biral?" He repeated more forcefully this time. "Because he is more respectable than anyone else! Much better than Slime like you!" I could feel his gaze on the back of my head. "That's a shame." He said. Then I heard the weapon in his hand fire. No one heard it, no one saw the body fall off the roof to the street below. ----------------------------------- Welcome, everyone who wants to participate in this. Through the Living Hope Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 What is the culture you are going for in the undercity? I have an idea for a character but want to make sure it fits in context

So harsh, most people are a part of a crew, most crews pay homage to the crime lord of their sector, but it's a lot of ends justify the means. Your question is a little vague. Is there any more specific question you have?

Through the Living Hope Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 Name: A. Lias (refuses to tell anyone her real name) Age: 23 Appearance: Slightly wavy brown hair, hazel eyes (the kind that look different colors depending on her surroundings), wide hips, looks ten years older than she actually is, has scars all over her body Backstory and personality (spoilered for TW abuse) Spoiler Lias was raised outside of the undercity in a higher class of society. Received the equivalent of an eighth grade education. Nearly nine years ago, she was kidnapped and sold to a bar for patrons to have happy fun time with her. During the time when they rented her, they could do whatever they wished with no penalty, hence her scars. Any time she conceived, she was beaten until she miscarried. Counted the days of her enslavement and every time it happened. The numbers are burned into her mind. Two months ago, she took an opportunity to escape and has since been in hiding and on the run, doing odd jobs to try to buy her way out of the under city. No longer believes there is good in anyone. If anyone makes physical contact with her, they are on the ground before they can do or say anything else. She never smiles anymore, though if she did it would break anyone’s heart. Her eyes have lost their light.

Through the Living Hope Posted November 4, 2025 Posted November 4, 2025 Intro scene that no one asked for but has been running through my head for the past hour. Doesn’t influence plot but does lead into what she’s doing when it starts Spoiler The empty pint glass thundered as it made contact with the bar. Lias threw the necessary coinage down on the countertop and began preparing herself to leave. She finally had enough to leave this forsaken “city” that had eaten her alive for nearly a decade. She pulled the bag containing the few sets of clothing she had allowed herself to purchase early on from her departure. A patron of the tavern descended the staircase. She wouldn’t have paid much mind, if it weren’t for the girl who followed him. She couldn’t have been seventeen, yet her hair was disheveled and her dress crooked. And here she’d thought this place was free of men like that. ”Lemme buy ‘er,” she slurred. It was clear that she didn’t mean for a session with her. The barkeep, the owner of the tavern, looked at the girl and chuckled softly to himself. “If you know anything about establishments like my own, you’ll know that girls like her are the real money makers.” ”Lemme buy her,” she demanded once again, just a tad more aggressive. The man shrugged. “I won’t let you get her cheap. Brought me quite a sum, that one.” ”Name your price.” ”Pay the equivalent of thirty sessions.” Even inebriated, Lias knew that was a robbery. It was just about all she had left. Her ticket out of here would be gone. The thought flashed through her mind to leave the girl. No one would blame her. Except herself, of course. Fighting back her groans, she fished in her pouch for the money. It had been so full, yet now it was nearly empty. She slammed her fist on the counter. Had her mind been clear, the look in her eyes would have been enough to kill every person who’d ever harmed her. The man counted through the coins and whistled, a shrill sound she - and this girl - knew all too well. Good little slave that girl was, she hid her pain and approached. ”Meet your new master,” the barkeep said, his voice carrying the tune of both joy and a groan. “You’d best hope she treats you well.” The girl swallowed and nodded. Lias knew all too well, as this girl must have, that the women who payed for their time were often more cruel than the men. Lias grunted as she walked out, the girl trailing not far behind. If she felt any hope, it didn’t show in her eyes. Lias knew the feeling. To hope hurt. She must not have had any sense of hope in her new “master”, as her jaw nearly dropped as the two entered a clothing market. Lias found the cheapest pants and shirt she could and bought a small pouch for the girl as well. Even fewer coins in her own. She nodded her head towards a changing room, placing the outfit in the girl’s hands. The shock in her eyes didn’t leave from the time she entered in the least amount of fabric you could call a dress from the time she emerged in an outfit that covered all of her skin. When Lias turned on the street, the girl followed. Lias turned, confusion mixing with the haze in her eyes. “What’re yeh doin’ girl?” She swallowed. “You.. you saved me. I want to go with you.” Lias laughed. “No. I’d be on my way outta th’s place if it weren’t for you.” The girl became desperate. “Please- this means so much, I- I have to repay you!” ”If you wanna repay what I did, get a job. Buy a ticket to the upper city. Get out when you can. And don’t squander your chance to get out when what’s left of your heart tries to convince you otherwise.” The girl’s face fell. “But.. but you…” ”And if they’d taken any more of my soul I wouldn’t have. It already takes all I have left to not regret it. If you want to repay me, get out. Act like you don’t know me. I won’t treat you any different if I see you again.” ”No, I-I have to help others, like you did!” Lias turned so quickly the world around her swirled much faster than it already had been. The intoxication on her breath made the girl’s nose wrinkle as her fingers dug into her shoulders. ”Swear on the eighteen babies they stole from me that you will get out of here before you even think about getting another girl out.” The girl shook in terror, her eyes wider than they’d been since Lias had seen her. “I-I-I-“ ”SWEAR IT!” ”I swear!” Lias released her, turning away once again. If the girl said anything else, she didn’t hear. She went to another bar. This one she knew was clean. The owner of this inn didn’t stoop so low. She counted the coins left in her pouch. If she saved this many, she could buy a bottle of scotch in the morning and still get something strong tonight. She’d be back at the bottom with no coins, but, well, fine. This was the sixth time she’d given into the tiny spot of her heart they hadn’t been able to turn black. She barely made it into the stool before slamming her coins on the countertop and demanding the strongest drink the barkeep could make. It was clear he didn’t want to but, well, coin was coin. Nothing after her first gulp was clear. She barely remembered getting to her room in the inn that night. Someone tried to help her, she thought, but he ended up bruised on the floor as soon as he touched her. She hit the bed and took the last swig of her drink. Everything went black with the punctuation of shattered glass as the drink’s receptacle fell to the ground.
