Gagging Crow

So, in Tress, in the scene where Tress is supposed to be given to the dragon, Xisis somehow makes a cloth from a pillar come and gag Crow.

"Exactly!" Crow said. "Just as I've been-"

"Oh, hush." The dragon waved a clawed hand in her direction. The cloth enveloping the nearest pillar suddenly wiggled as if alive. It whipped forward, wrapping around Crow's face and gagging her.

Is this using breaths? But then how would he accumulate the amount he needs to do this silently? (Though he is very old and the like)  It's all very weird.

It's Awakening, probably from Breath. We have not seen any other way to do that (that I remember) but Brandon does say that in the Cosmere, different magic systems can produce the same effects. There's probably another planet or a space station or something, somewhere, that has a magic system to move cloth around with Investiture.

Xisis is a merchant. We see SPOILER FOR SP5, ISLES OF THE EMBERDARK

We see in Isles that Xisis (like most dragons) loves to make deals. Presumably he made at least one deal with someone where he got paid in Breaths.

It's Awakening, probably from Breath. We have not seen any other way to do that (that I remember) but Brandon does say that in the Cosmere, different magic systems can produce the same effects. We see in Isles that Xisis (like most dragons) loves to make deals. Presumably he made at least one deal with someone where he got paid in Breaths.

 

We assume it was silent, but we do not know for certain.  Warbreaker Spoilers.

There are at least two corner cases where what we see may have happened without Xisis being 10th Heightening (assuming it really was BioChromatic Awakening of a Type Three construct - as per Vasher's Warbreaker explanation) - Warbreaker Ch 46:

“Creating Type Three BioChromatic entities is what we traditionally call ‘Awakening,’ ” Vasher continued. “That’s when you create a BioChromatic manifestation in an organic host that is far removed from having been alive. Cloth works the best, though sticks, reeds, and other plant matter can be used.”

1. The tapestry was Awakenend previously, like Vasher's Leggings, Tassled Sleeves and Cloak - then it simply responded to a non-verbal stimuls Foil provided.
2. BioChomatic Awakening must be accomplished in the being's Native Language, so Tress may not have even recognized what she heard, or Xisis may have even spoken in a register outside of human auditory perception
   • We don't know this is possible - but we also do not know that it is not possible - we have no data either way

Warbreaker Prologue:

 In order to Awaken, the man would need three things: Breath, color, and a Command. The harmonics and the hues, some called it. The Iridescent Tones, the relationship between color and sound. A Command had to be spoken clearly and firmly in the Awakener’s native language—any stuttering, any mispronunciation, would invalidate the Awakening.
