I was thinking, that a good way to refer to when we think certain books take place is with a harmony-based calander.

When we speculate how many years something happened before Hero of ages we could say

PS or Before Sazed

and anything after harmony

AH or Anno Harmony which is latin for Year of Harmony.

It's too arbitrary. It's not a bad choice, but there are better ones - for which we don't know exact dates - so I wouldn't want us to adopt this calendar only to have it replaced by a new one several years down the line. Until the Shardworlds start to mingle, I think we should avoid a more universal calendar.

I'm sorry, but that is a terrible way to base the time. It should be a year in Elantris based on the time the magic system was fixed.

Why is it terrible?  It's no less arbitrary than the restoration of Elantris.  Unless you mean that Harmony's Ascension is in the middle of the timeline whereas the Elantris is restored near the begining?

The reason i chosed sazed's ascension is because everyone seems to already use relation to HoA to determine when something is.

That is what I mean, actually.

How would we account for a "year" on each planet being different lengths of time?

That only really matters if two planets are interacting with each other which isn't exactly happening yet.

We might see usage of subjective shiptime if we're lucky.

I vote using BS (Before Sazed) as the Before Harmony mark just because it can be misinterpreted to be something different which I find slightly amusing.
