Godot it seems is the only game engine that I feel is actually fun to work with. One thing, though. This is only a problem if you let it be one: tangled code. Godot gives you a lot of freedom for how to write your code, so make sure you stick to one naming convention, one format, one style, etc for your entire project. Never try to change things halfway through.

Deception He/Him Posted yesterday at 04:30 AM Posted yesterday at 04:30 AM (edited) Oh and one more thing, @KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren. This probably isn't relevant to you but it is really bad and also easily avoidable so I need to tell you about it in case you ever use Unity for some reason. While compiling your project, Unity can sometimes permanently delete the entire folder that your project is inside of, including itself, due to a bug. Yes, you read that right. One time it did this to me when my project folder was a sub directory of my normal home directory and not inside any projects or documents folder, and it wiped my entire home directory and all my account data. It doesn't just happen to me. It has happened to many other people on the internet as well. ALWAYS keep your Unity projects AWAY from your other files, in their OWN SEPARATED FOLDERS, and frequently back them up to other folders or cloud storage. Just felt like I needed to warn you. Alright thanks. Yes, that would be devastating.

LEARN RUST RUST RUST RUST RUST RUST RUST RUST RUST. No but actually use Godot Engine (ask chatgpt what that is, I'm too lazy to explain it), it's really good. Roblox is also nice except now you can't publish games unless you are ID verified and have a subscription so I quit making games for the platform. Mmmmmm I would use godot dislike both roblox and chatgpt, except I hate chatgpt with a burning passion

Hmmmm I can be a lot, so I will only do this if you are ok with it, but I am very passionate about my hatred of AI and am willing to debate my case, but again, I will only do this if you are a ok, I can just keep moving not thinking about it if you do not wish to debate it.

Ok we can debate it.
CoderDrag0n8 He/They Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Just now, Deception said: Ok we can debate it. Alright. 1. Impact on environment Chatgpt and other public use artificial intelligences use insane amounts of carbon emmissions, sometimes even surpassing the aviation industry (which is like, a lot). On top of this, they use clean drinking water, creating huge water inequality in places the datacenters are built, like the water crisis in Thailand Water vapor is also another green house gas which only adds to the carbon emissions. People say AI is the future, but if we don't regulate it, there wont be a future (see:global warming) In addition, you may say that each individual query doesn't impact it that much, but each individual vote in an election will probably never be the defining vote, so with that logic, why would anyone vote at all? 2. Personal Impact There have been numerous studies found that the more often you use artificial intelligence, the less you are using your own brain. Even just going through the trouble of trying to find a stack overflow or looking through the google search results stimulates and exercises your brain so much more than outsourcing all of the work to a random chatbot.

The only way anyone is actually going to stop destroying the earth is if problems get so bad they severely interfere with the business of the companies causing them. AI might speed this up but definitely won't cause it, and who knows? Maybe AI will think of the solution. 5 minutes ago, CoderDrag0n8 said: 2. You do have a point here. People should never fully rely on chatbots. However, for tedious tasks like debugging code? You could even argue that this is making people smarter, by decreasing burnout and boredom risks and giving you more time to focus on actually writing your software. Also, you could argue this same thing (not using your brain) about every technology that exists. The entire definition of technology is something like "tools that do jobs for humans". Shoes? Stop wearing them. They make your feet soft. Google? Nope. You need to go to the library. That way you get experience doing "real" research. GPS? Use your brain. You are losing your internal navigation ability by relying on it. Some of those claims that I listed are somewhat valid, but we will never stop using shoes, GPS, or Google. Even if they do hurt the brain (or the feet in the case of shoes), they lead to better results than if you were to do things the old-fashioned way. Programming, research, and other areas are progressing much faster now with AI. In addition, AI can have completely harmless uses. As long as you use it to do brain dead or tedious tasks it won't hurt your intelligence, and some open source AIs are compact enough to run on your own PC, minimizing environmental impact.
Usseewa ✾ She♡Her ✾ Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago (edited) ok sorry if im intruding, I also only skimmer what you guys said but it seems like ai has the *potential* to be good. 8 hours ago, Deception said: In addition, AI can have completely harmless uses. Like that. It (perhaps) isn't inherently "bad" (a complex definition itself), but perhaps the current usage of it is not in the best interest of humanity. Like, using nuclear stuff for nukes for power plants. If that makes sense. This might just be a common repeated argument or truism idk but just a thought. I also don't (well... technically I used the PyCharm IDE for a day or two, and it had numerous AI code auto complete features which I did admit to using) use AI for coding or debugging (aside from some AI overviews on the google) so I'm not sure if I can speak on whether that use is "good" or "bad." I personally despise the uses of AI for content generation (I feel like there's a term for it but I forget). By content I mean text and images and music etc. (and videos, but those are images+sound and text if it has speech). Also, there might be hidden/less-obvious uses of this that I likely unknowingly use daily, but as far as I know I don't use it to create *for me.* I don't have it write/create something or "organize my thoughts" at all. But this shouldn't be about how wonderful I am because no one is wonderful, including me. I still use AI overview for a quick answer. I can use the excuse that it's shoved in my face (which it is), but I also enjoy the convenience, as I am a fallible human. But back to the point, I hate AI-generated stuff. I'm not sure how much is personal bias versus intelligent/"intelligent" conclusions or whatever, but my view is thet it makes things the same in style and takes the work from you. I guess you perhaps weren't arguing for AI-generated stuff. I think this is a useless rant but I saw your point about previous technology serving as AI does, and I have some thoughts (not necessarily objections). I agree that tools like GPS or the internet or even less-obvious technology make life easier. This can be "good" or "bad," since I don't wanna think of specific terms. I think with something like shoes, as you mentioned, we are so accustomed to them that they don't seem harmful. AI and other tech is newer and change is of course viewed with, well, mixed views. "Kids these days, on their phones." What about "Those kids with their fancy word processors! We had to use typewriters, you know?" "I can't believe kids these days have typewriters, back then we had to do it all by hand!" I'm not that versed in the history of this technology and stuff so that could be completely false but it communicates my idea. Uhhh idk what else to say. Hmm.. Basically, nee tech can both dumb us down by taking the load of so we don't think about stuff we used to, like directions or libraries or whatever, but they also (potentially) allow us to achieve greater things. Like programming in assembly or punch cards vs a modern, high-level programming language. The latter allows you to do more. You still think a lot with both, and I don't see an immediate disadvantage from the latter. It's important, in my opinion, to have something replace that. Fill the gap left by new tech. Hopefully that was fine edit: it also depends on how ethically the AI used or for what purposes, which depends on your definition of ethical. Also it's not like tech is used ethically anwuay Edited 7 hours ago by Usseewa
Deception He/Him Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I mean yea that makes sense. You have to use AI as a tool to help you, not to replace you. If you use it to do half your work, but you spend 95% of your time on your half of the work, you won't be getting any dumber. If you want it to do the entire project and you spend your time mostly typing prompts and waiting for responses to generate, then you're kinda cooked.
