Deception He/Him Posted yesterday at 12:51 AM Posted yesterday at 12:51 AM YALL. USE GODOT. OR RUST. IM PART OF THE RUST CULT. RUST IS THE BEST. LEARN RUST RUST RUST RUST RUST RUST RUST RUST RUST. No but actually use Godot Engine (ask chatgpt what that is, I'm too lazy to explain it), it's really good. Roblox is also nice except now you can't publish games unless you are ID verified and have a subscription so I quit making games for the platform.

When I get the time, I'm probably going to see if I can get a game engine. Godot is a candidate, I'll do more research eventually.

RUSTACEANNNNN IMAREWRITEYOUINRUST AW, RUST! anywya i dont know Rust haheh! I just know the meme. Also ive used godot. Its pretty good. Gets things done, idk. I haven't used any of the "good" game engines (cough unreal, unity cough) but ive used a few aside from godot construct2 or 3 or whatever was ... not the best scratch is kinda good but wayyyy to slow and a bit limited Just now, KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren said: When I get the time, I'm probably going to see if I can get a game engine. Deception He/Him Posted yesterday at 03:11 AM Posted yesterday at 03:11 AM RUUUUUUUST CODE UR "TRANSPILER" IN RUUUUUUUST lol. But btw don't try Unity, it feels like it is held together with duct tape and bugs out every 10 minutes. And I think I have developed a mortal fear of Unreal Engine after I tried to learn it a few months ago. It has like 15 different systems and each one is like learning a whole new programming language.
Denissimo He/him Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Just found this. Hi all. What IDE do you use, and what language do you code in, and (given the last message), if you use them, which game engine?
NerdSandwich she/her Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Arduino IDE Java, Python, C++, a tiny bit of others
Deception He/Him Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago VS Code for most coding (or Godot engine editor for Godot because it has its own editor). I know a ton of languages: Python Java JavaScript Rust GDScript (Godot scripting language based on Python) C# Luau (roblox scripting language based on Lua) And I probably forgot a few. But I only actually use Rust and GDScript right now, I'm kinda bored of the other languages and they aren't very good in my opinion.

Almost exclusively VSC HTML, CSS, JS, Python (though haven't used it in ages) and a very, very small amount of C++ Don't have a game engine yet, though I might get one this year

Chose Roblox if: You need easy multiplayer You want players FAST Downsides of Roblox: Low level engine control is garbage They just did an update so you need a premium subscription and ID verification to properly publish games Chose Unity if: You don't mind debugging You want a massive asset library and advanced tooling You want a balanced, do-everything engine Downsides of Unity: Engine feels like it is held together with duct tape Renderer frequently bugs out and refuses to render any color except pink for no reason Chose Godot if: You are making a 2D game. Godot wins 2D, hands down. If the game is 2D, use Godot You want to learn the engine quickly You want a highly intuitive and quick workflow You hate learning complicated scripting languages (GDScript is simple) You want freedom with your project structure You need an open-source engine Downsides of Godot: No built in monetization tools 3D rendering is weak in some areas Chose Unreal Engine if: You have a very strong computer You want to make a 3D PC game You want to make a hyper-realistic game (Unreal always wins here) You learn quickly and burn out slowly You need a total god engine that can do anything in 3 lines of code if you know the right functions Downsides of Unreal Engine: Takes YEARS to learn Extremely steep learning curve Tens or hundreds of complex systems to master It uses the worst programming language ever invented, C++ (unless you want to use blueprints, which are a form of visual scripting). Trust me, just start with Godot. It's the best engine by far unless you need realistic 3D graphics, and the workflow is just so fun. Edited 4 hours ago by Deception *dont mind debugging not dont debugging

Alright probably won't be using this one then Why do you say C++ is the worst? I know a touch of it, and while you need to specify a lot more, it gives you more control over memory and stuff

Memory bugs are a whole new class of error, which are borderline impossible to track down. Also, the syntax of C++ just has too much bloat to learn easily. Too many features. Btw I fixed the typo, I meant "don't mind debugging" because a lot of Unity games are quite buggy.
