“Mostly to apologize. I wasn’t able to when the city collapsed.”

"Such a wierd thing to happen."

“My brother thought the city was built on a dragon star.”

"Yes. But why would it sink like that?"

“… hold on. Are you saying it was? They don’t exist.”

"Oh, they almost certainly do." He said in an explanatory tone, "There's one in Aracrest, Fares, Majido, Aurcuin, and Dahlan. Those are the 5 I know of."

She blinked rapidly. “So? Just because there are cities near their supposed locations doesn’t mean they exist. They’ve never been seen before.”

"Not by us."

"How do we know gravity exists because we can't see it? If we can't see it it obviously doesn't exist. How do you know the sun exists when below the horizon? How do you know there are distant lands if you have not seen them? What of the celestial bodies? The plants? The stars? Do they not exist because you cannot see them?"

“We can’t see gravity itself, but we see its effects. And I once spent a day chasing the sun. It doesn’t go away. You know of distant lands because of travelers and nomads. And you say that like no one has ever seen a distant land. The ‘dragon stars’ have never been seen.”

“Who, then?”

"There are sky dragons who have seen them. Records of eye witness accounts millennias old."

“Have you read these accounts? Draconian is rarely written, and if they’re millennia old, it’s highly likely they were altered over time.”

"I've read one."

“And?”

"It's hard to read, being very old and such. But the account seems accurate."

She frowned. That wasn’t the answer she’d been hoping for. “How could you tell?”

"It was well written."

"How is it not?"

“It- it could have been edited! Altered to seem more reliable!”

"You don't know very much about the sky dragons, do you?"

“No, I’ve never met one!”

"The sky dragons, at least the sect I visited, are meticulous about ritualism and tradition; many of the texts they have have not been touched, let alone altered, for years."
