Dolly scowled at it and snapped the folder shut. “Liars,” she growled, pacing the tiny room again. “Lying, monstrous—gah!” She ripped the folder in two, furious. How dare they. Kidnapping her was one thing. Pretending she’d agreed to it—pretending Astor had told them to take her—that was too much.

She read them carefully, then slid the file under her mattress, along with the torn pieces of the first folder. After checking the door one more time, she (in the case that it’s locked) sat down and finished braiding her hair.
