She writhed desperately. “You can’t—” but they could. She was alone here, and until her family found her—or until she got out—they’d do whatever they wanted. She struggled harder, but barely landed a single kick on one of them.

She could tell the guard didn’t like it. But the scientist didn’t seem to care. “You will behave or you will be punished.” She signaled to the guards, who let her down, and indicated to a chair. “Sit.”
