I’m bored. I have two months until my black belt test and have very little to do. If anyone has any crazy physical skills I can try (ex: kip up onto one leg, which I’m trying like it’s actually possible) please throw them my way!

I mean if I can bounce off walls maybe, but I’d still have to flip and I don’t trust myself not to snap something trying to do all that

Good

Don't break anything. Yourself or otherwise.

Yeah that’s my goal. I mean my ankles, knees, and wrists are already super messed up, so at this point all I’m trying to save is my back

geez okay

remind me never to force my kids to do that

I mean it’s great

I would just remind people to not be me and don’t keep going when you sprain a joint

Yeah I’m really bad about it ‘cause I love what I do but it also gets me injured a lot. Or rather I should say I get myself injured a lot

Plyometric Pushups (shoot for highest count once you have the motion correct)

Spoiler

It's the next step after a "clapping" push up.

  • Start in the normal push-up position.
    • (make sure to keep your head up and eyes forward - look at a point about 3-5 feet in front of you)
  • Shift the center of gravity back so that your calves are stretched
    • (similar to standing with your toes on a 1" mat and heels on the floor - this is so that you gain lift when you flex your lower legs)
  • Lower yourself to full down (upper arms parallel to the floor - or as close as you can get without any part of your body touching except toes and palms)
  • Push up explosively with your arms, while also flexing your calves
    • All four points of contact should leave the ground and the body should remain close-to-parallel to the ground
  • When you can do that and safely land on hands and toes (no face plant), add the hand clap at apex
    • You should be getting 6+ inches of lift on all four points of contact

Repeat at a steady pace for sets of 12-15 Plyo Push-ups and keep track of how many sets you can do without letting your form suffer

*Note: if you search "plyo push-up" most videos and animated gifs incorrectly label a clapping push up as a plyo push-up (that's the easy version)

Pike Handstand

Spoiler

When first practicing this, do it against a wall - but it's not successful until you can do this mid-floor with no balance assist.

  • Start by laying on the floor, face down, toes pointed
  • Place the hands just outside of your shoulders
    • This will be for the initial "tripod"
  • Bending only the hips, raise your hips above your body to be in-line with your shoulders
    • Lower legs are a right angle to your upper body - do not bend your knees (toes will drag until you gt high enough for them to lift off)
  • Move into a headstand tripod position by moving your ankles above your hips
    • Again, do not bend the knees - keep the "pike" position of lower and upper body
  • Once balanced in a headstand, do a vertical push up into the Handstand position (and remained balanced in a handstand).

For bonus points, slowly bend the arms, then re-extend to do additional reps of vertical push-ups while maintaining a handstand

Hope that helps
