LeondeBowa Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 So Hoid is aware of modern level technology or at least something similar. According to the info I've seen all civilisations that have existed up to 1900 technology, and the stuff I've read for Hoids home planet under Adonalsium, suggests that was a world at most in the middle ages. How does he know of these things?

How does he know of these things? Can you please clarify which story(ies) you are referencing? If, for example, you are referencing the Secret Projects (Tress, Yumi and/or Sunlit Man) please recall that those stories take place in the future of the Cosmere (as compared to "present" which is Stormlight Archive Arc 1, Mistborn Era 2). Out side of those stories, please recall that technology levels have been inconsistent between worlds - for example, White Sand is the first story in current published Cosmere chronology, and the Darksiders already had Gunpowder back then. Scadrial had gunpowder before Rashek travelled to the Well (and only lost that technology level because The Lord Ruler suppressed it). So, to better answer your question we would need to know to which technology you are referring - and in which story you saw the scene.
LeondeBowa Posted February 17, 2025 Author Posted February 17, 2025 (edited) I'm talking WOB, he mentioned in one of his interviews Hoid was very interested in worlds advancing in technology and until they can create pot noodle, as Good was obsessed with the food. The way it was phrased implied no world had reached that level yet and Scadrial was the one that was closest. I realised the fragmented nature of the series makes the question difficult but WOB seems to be implying Hoid has outside knowledge. Edited February 17, 2025 by LeondeBowa

More WoBs: Spoiler Quote Weltall (paraphrased) I asked what Hoid's favorite flavor of instant noodles is. Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) At first I think he misheard me asking what his own favorite is ('spicy Korean ramen' apparently, though I don't remember the exact specifics) so I clarified. He said that Hoid is looking forward to instant noodles but they aren't Yolish and he knows about them via the same method that he knows where he needs to be in the cosmere. Arcanum Unbounded San Francisco signing (Nov. 30, 2016) Quote Questioner What's the deal with Hoid and instant noodles? Brandon Sanderson ...He likes his ramen, right? Like any sane person, he likes his instant noodles. Nothing more than that. Questioner ...Has he ever had instant noodles? Brandon Sanderson Yeah, he's had instant noodles before. They have them on Taldain, yeah. Oathbringer release party (Nov. 13, 2017) AU Taldain Essay Excerpt: Quote The flora and fauna of both sides are remarkable, though currently prospective visitors are—unfortunately—unable to experience them directly. Autonomy’s policy of isolationism in recent times (in direct contrast to her interference with other planets, I might add) has prevented travel to and from Taldain for many, many years. Hope that helps Edited February 17, 2025 by Treamayne SPAG/Examples
