Do they form a Luhel bond, a Nahel bond or is it something else?

It is probably neither of those bonds.

  • A Nahel Bond is the bond of Realmic Transition - between a Cognitive Invstiture Entity and a Physical Being (Sapient Spren and Radiant, Spren and Greatshell/Ryshadium/Skyeel, etc.), where the spren is pulled into the Physical Realm in exchange for <something> (Radiance, Flight, Sapiance, etc.).
  • A Luhel Bond is the Bond of Physical Transition (Sand Master, Aethers) where an effect is powered by Hydration (or possibly other physical sustance) for granting control over the expression of Investiture
  • The unnamed (potential) third bond was shown in how Vin Bonded and control Koloss (even without any more Metal or investiture maintaining the connection after the bond was formed) - which is implied to also be how the Unmade influence/control people through Rioting/Soothing emotion (Ashertmarn influencing the Cult of Moments in Kholinar). It is likely this type of Bond, but we don't have enough information on how the Worms and Patji's Fingers work with the Aviar to be definitive in this assessment.

However, we do know that there is some similarity between Aviar and the Purelake Fish (likely to be that they are invested by the environment, and that means they create an effect in the People in that environment).

Are there any parallels between the fish in the Purelake and the Aviar in Sixth of the Dusk?

Brandon Sanderson

Yes.

You said before that if a human ate an Aviar worm, it would not do anything, right? Someone's tried that? What would happen if a baby...?

Brandon Sanderson

Still wouldn't work. The gut flora is too different. And they're not part of the symbiotic life cycle there. That system has evolved to the symbiosis that it has, and humans are too new to trying to make that work.

Humans are not new on the planet, but they are not part of that system.

Podman36

Could they be trained into it?

Brandon Sanderson

Training wouldn't work.

Podman36

Not like training, but through generations.

Brandon Sanderson

Through generations, that would be theoretically possible.

So, the only known canon is that it is part of a Symbiotic Cycle native to the Pantheon Islands.

Hope that helps
