1 dezaS Hᴇ/Hɪᴍ Posted February 11, 2025 Posted February 11, 2025 (edited) Assuming you mean planet, they are from Yolen, the same world the shards are from. Wob: Quote Questioner In the Scadrial essay, it says specifically that the Shardholders were humans. Does that imply that there can be nonhuman Shardholders? Brandon Sanderson Yes Questioner Are any of the Shards we have seen nonhuman? Brandon Sanderson The Shards you have seen? I will RAFO that. Questioner And that doesn't just count the way that Shards twist people. Brandon Sanderson No, no, no. There were three races on Yolen. Questioner And all the Shards we've seen, you're not gonna answer? Brandon Sanderson I'm not gonna answer, but there are three races on Yolen. There's humans, there's Sho Del, and there's dragons. Questioner So, kandra and koloss are considered different races? Brandon Sanderson They are considered different races, but they did not exist when Adonalsium was Splintered. Brandon Sanderson The Sho Del are the third race from Yolen. celestialwolf157 I've heard you mention the Sho Del a few times, though only that they were the third race on Yolen. Is there anything else you could reveal about the Sho Del that's not too spoilery? Brandon Sanderson The big thing happening on Yolen (and major plot points of both Dragonsteel and The Liar of Partinel, neither of which I decided to publish) is two competing ecologies on one planet. An entire invasive ecology (called "fain") and the regular one, familiar to us. The Sho Del fill the niche in the fain ecosystem that humans fill in ours. But once we did the basment the bookcase went and all my novels and art books went into tubs under the basment staires next to the cat litter and laundry room. Haha sometimes when I go looking for a book I feel like Gandulf looking through the old scrolls or discovering lost text hahah. A few years back I started bring up "the more important book"and was placing then on my side of the bed untill she notice them hidding between the nightstand and the wall. Hahah so funny 1
