Hello, I just finshed Wind and Truth about 2 days ago I am about 1:45  or so into the first shardcast YouTube video.  My question is our we %100 sure that none of our main characters will be POV characters. I just can't imagine  a Stormlight book without any of them as POV characters.  Kaladin and Syl to me is Stormlight along with Shallan and Adolin haha.

I trust Brandon that he's going write yet another amazing book but I just love thoese characters.

No, that is not a sure thing. The only thing we know for certain is that at least some of the Primary POV characters from the First Arc will become secondary PoV or non-PoV characters, and Secondary Characters in the First Arc will become primary PoV Characters - with the five flashback arcs as Lift, Renarin, Ash, Taln, Jasnah (order may be changed, if needed, just as Szeth and Dalinar were swapped from the initial plan - and the caveat that a character does not need to survive in the primary timeline to have flashbacks is still valid (e. g. Eshonai))

Thank you, bot to sound corny  But Kaladin has ment so much to ke in these past 5 book amd how ever many years it has been. Brandon Sanderson writting of the character has helped focus my out look on mental health. In doing so it has help me relieve how much I love to help people with mental health crisis  in my law enforcement career.  I also just love how epic our main characters have become. Adolin story arc was just outstanding in this book.

I think they are going to very very important but if we get a POV it will be similar to a Herald or Wit. More of a cameo. I totally understand how you feel though. It's not goodbye because we can visit them again but part of knowing someone is growing with them. And now our friends are much like the visions in the spiritual realm, destined to play out their stories again and again. I always love coming back and seeing how I've changed and what new things they can teach me.

I can't find the wob, but I recall Brandon mentioned that these five flashback characters will be main ones along with whoever of the current ones survives WaT. Another one I remember is that he originally considered to give Kaladin two flashback books. These make me think the current main characters are not going anywhere. I think it'll be more similar - though likely not to this extent - to what happened with Venli and Szeth. They got flashbacks, we got more of them overall, but they never even got close to taking over the lead.

One thing that I'm slightly confused about is who the primary POVs will be for the second set of 5 books in the 10-book series. I've heard a bunch of names being floated around on various online forums--such as Jasnah, Renarin, and Taravangian to name a few--but are any of these confirmed? Any word of Brandon as of yet?

Brandon Sanderson

It's possible this will change. But the back five have been planned as Jasnah, Renarin, Lift, Taln, and Ash. Though, once again, this isn't a promise that these people survive. You'll likely see at least one flashback set in the series from a character who has died in a previous book, and then you get to see something they experienced through flashbacks before their death.

faragorn

I'm having trouble locating Ash. No direct matches on coppermind.net, 17th shard forums or google.

Do you mean Ashir from one of the WoK interludes? Or perhaps someone we haven't met yet (at least by name).

Brandon Sanderson

There are a lot of weird things going on with Ash, so what's up with her will be something you'll have to wait on for a long while.

Enasor

But how about the characters we currently love? Are they all gone in the second half??? This is terrible 😞

Brandon Sanderson

No, they will be around. (Well, if they survive.) But the second series will be taking place years later, and their roles may have changed.

Footnote: The Ash that Brandon is referring to here is the Herald also known as Shalash.

Question about the second half of the 10 books what did you mean by having the primary characters shuffle and are the 2 arcs separate in time line or something else?

Brandon Sanderson

Yes, there are two arcs. Small separation in time. Not as much as Mistborn. Many same characters will appear, but some will be less prominent.

momanie

Will there be different main character PoV's or no?

Brandon Sanderson

There will be a completely new set of characters with flashback sequences, but some of the characters from the first five will appear quite a lot, and will provide a "through line" of people with arcs that cross ten books--making it one series, not two.

On later Stormlight Archive novels will there always be one character we get to see flashbacks for?

Brandon Sanderson

Yes, and it should rotate to different characters. I have not yet decided who gets book two yet. It's really between Dalinar and Shallan and I go back and forth on whose story I want to tell next.

17th Shard

So, does that mean there's going to be 10 different characters that would be seen?

Brandon Sanderson

It's very likely there will be 10 different characters. The only caveat on that is that part of me really wants to do a second Kaladin book. And so I haven't quite decided who gets flashback books. You can probably guess from reading this book some of them who do. But there are some that don't necessarily absolutely need them, so Kaladin may get a second flashback book.

17th Shard

So, fingers crossed, fingers crosses, will Szeth get one?

Brandon Sanderson

Szeth will get a book. Yes, Szeth will get a book. Shallan and Dalinar will get books.

17th Shard

Adolin?

Brandon Sanderson

Um…I'm not sure on him yet. He's one that could, maybe not. I mean he's got some interesting things going on but we'll see how the series progresses first. There are characters who will get flashback books that you haven't yet met or at least not spent much time with.

Hope that helps

I love the idea of a 2nd flashback chapters for Kaladin. Hopefully it coukd cover the tine between the 10-15  in world gap between book 5 and book 6.  I could show Kaladin and Syl fslling in love and being together I love a good love story I know alot of people aren't intrested in them being together but I want it to happen big time
