Atlas333 Posted January 8, 2025 Posted January 8, 2025 Question is in the title. I imagine it's because Brandon isn't completely satisfied with how the graphic novel turned out but I'm wondering if we have any official explanations.
1 Quantus he/him Posted January 8, 2025 Posted January 8, 2025 Let see what I can find in the WOB's It was originally a Novel (His first, actually), and if you count the graphic Novel I believe it's been re-written 3 times now. He's said he wants to do it again but better. And he's said he wants a print/prose version for those that want to be able to consume the entire Cosmere written instead of having one piece of the canon that's a whole different medium. Also he has said that "we did not get the worldbuilding across in a visual medium the way we wanted to", with some odd choices in the art (lack of armor, a White vs Brown person ethic thing he doesnt like, etc). https://wob.coppermind.net/events/131/#e3964 https://wob.coppermind.net/events/323/#e9259 https://wob.coppermind.net/events/422/#e13938 https://wob.coppermind.net/events/530/#e16493 https://wob.coppermind.net/events/35/#e4399 https://wob.coppermind.net/events/100/#e9044 2

Granted, some of those comments were about the 3-Volume original Graphic Novel and were already addressed in the Omnibus. For more info, please see This Thread. Also the WoB on the Canon Prose (for exact words): Quote Brandon Sanderson Part Four: Updates on Secondary Projects White Sand The time is nearly here. In July I expect to take the graphic novel, my original book, and a lot of notes I’ve been making, and create the definitive novel version of White Sand! Khriss is a major player in the Cosmere, and so having her book be readable in a prose version is an important task I want to get to. Maybe we’ll have this one for Dragonsteel 2025. State of the Sanderson 2023 (Dec. 19, 2023) Having read the Non-Canon Prose a few times, the original 3 Volume GN once and the Omnibus twice (the only version I have not experienced is the Audiobook), I'm still looking forward to the final Prose version - but really hope it retains the Ars Arcanum from the Omnibus. So well done! (Thanks to Isaac and Ben) 2
0 chongjasmine Posted January 12, 2025 Posted January 12, 2025 (edited) I think it is a good thing that there is a prose version of white sand. I don't read graphic novels and a prose version will enable me to know the story of white sand. Edited January 12, 2025 by chongjasmine 1
