christianrapper Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 (edited) please don’t get upset if my opinion differs from yours. the way that book 5 ends, I think that it would be a shame not to show these characters growth in real time. the status quo of the whole freaking planet just drastically changed. I hope that I am not the only person that wants to see these characters grow in real time. I want to see how Shallan handles Shadesmar. I want to see the development of Adolin and the unoathed. I also want to see Lift’s development. I hope that Sanderson shows how they got to the situation that they are in when Sanderson resumes this series. Bah Ado Mishram was just released even though she threatened to destroy all of humanity. Will she keep her promise? That’s one immediate and possibly world ending threat that should be dealt with in real time. Heck, a huge part of the world is in perpetual darkness. How will they handle that? It’s totally different between seeing these things in a flashback and actually going through it with them. It removes all of the tension because we know how their situations will eventually end. We are caught up with our characters. Doing the whole flashback again would seem like a needless crutch to me. I am really invested in these characters now. I definitely want to see their real time journey. I want to experience all their joy and pain with them as they do. Edited December 27, 2024 by christianrapper 1
JPGU Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 I'm sorry for you but we won't see most of those things, we only will see about the time between Book 5 and Book 6 in flashbacks and maybe in the New prologue moment.

If he does another time skip then he will be just throwing away money. A Stormlight book in between his second 5 book series would sell like crazy. He could do it as another secret project.

I'm actually concerned that he might not survive long enough to finish the series with how many different books he is writing. Sanderson is a beast though and we might get a shorter story like Dawnshard or Secret History that will give us the highlights. Also its not a huge time skip only like 10 years I think considering it was like a 100 year time skip between Mistborn Series I don't think to much should change.
RedBlue Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 In my opinion, it would be a mistake to try to fill in every moment of these characters’ stories. Stormlight is an epic fantasy series, and one of the main problems that plagues the genre is bloat and unintentional scope creep. Generally, I think it’s better to tell only the parts of the story where relevant things are happening, and leave some ‘gaps’ in the narrative when there’s no proper plot movement. Readers can infer what is going on with the main characters during downtime. Sanderson being Sanderson, he will probably write some vignettes or flashbacks set during the time skip at some point, and that will be fine, but I don’t think a whole novella is necessary. 4

He can't, in my arrogant opinion, "finish" the Cosmere in one human lifetime, especially since he's still adding more stories to the plan. Yet another iteration of White Sand, Brandon? He might ketek it out, actually, and have to bring in a younger writer a la Robert Jordan to finish things for him.
AlmightyGir Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 It's possible the aftermath might be much more immediate than we might think. If a century passes on other worlds then ~12 years passes on Roshar. A lot can happen in 12 years, but it's unlikely we'll see any off-screen deaths of major characters in that time. We're probably going to see Adolin, Shallan, and co all doing things in book 6, or potentially other worlds in between.
