  1. I literally quoted you. Whatever assumption that you and you alone made. YOU are the one that said that you made an assumption. Reread your post to me or my reply with your quote in it.
  2. You really think that discussing dating an imaginary species is controversial? Only a couple of people have taken it in a direction that it wasn’t intended. We can’t just lock discussions because two people got offended. This topic is literally about something that happened in the books. Also, since you have not read much of it then how can you decide what the responses were based on? Out of all the posts on this thread, the only person that made that assumption was you. Almost everyone else actually read the post and understood what I meant.
  3. There is a reason that I said “let’s not get into the same sex thing.” That’s not impolite at all. You ASSUMED that you knew what I meant and you’re wrong. This thread would have been full of actual veiled racism hidden behind words such as “woke” or “pandering.” It would also have been filled with actual racist remarks. I have already seen it in threads already. This thread would have been locked. This is a fantasy forum for discussing the fantasy topics of the Cosmere. If you want to discuss the gay aspect of Rlain and Rennarin’s then please feel free to make your own topic. Your thread will be locked in minutes.
  4. Your comment is hilarious and ironic and you can’t even understand why. You are proving my point exactly. Comparing real life racism to inter-species dating of a fake race isn’t the same at all. Parshendi aren’t real. Inter- species dating isn’t real. If you imagine inter- species dating as real then there are a lot more things to consider then being in love. Neanderthals are extinct. You see a problem with comparing dating a Parshendi with a sapient ape because apes are real and something that you have actually seen. If apes were sapient then they would be as smart as humans. They would not be like apes in the zoo. The only difference between a sapient ape and a listener is that the Parshendi are covered with shells and apes are hairy. Heck, the only difference between a sapient ape and a human would be that apes are hairy. The physical parts of apes of a certain size and humans match up. If being physically attracted to a sapient ape makes your skin crawl then you do understand what I mean. You’re just arguing to be arguing. Sapient apes aren’t real and neither are Parshendi. You just see apes as animals and can’t imagine then being sapient. It’s easy to imagine being physical with a species that’s made up. Actually imagining being physical with a different species that’s real is a different matter entirely. I bet you’re still thinking that apes are animals. Remember in this scenario they’re as sapient as humans.
  5. No, it wasn’t. The sensible thing was to keep his oaths so that he could save his family and mentors with Nightblood. I am not doing mental gymnastics to make that decision make sense. Szeth knew that he couldn’t wield Nightblood without Stormlight. Sanderson put that in there to add tension to a scene that already had plenty of tension. He also wanted Szeth to lose his arm and that was the only way for him to do it. I don’t even know what Ideal Dalinar was on. I didn’t even know that he was on the third ideal until he summoned the Stormfather as a sword to work the oath gates in book 3. Szeth was definitely in a position to show what the 5th ideal can do. Sanderson chose not to. We have been waiting over a freaking decade to see what the 5th ideal is and Sanderson chose not to reveal it. I am not giving him a pass on that. It’s just crappy writing.
  6. I am not about to get into real world religion. That has nothing to do with this book or my Op.
  7. Man, I can’t wait to find out what happens with the 5th ideal. Every previous ideal bestowed radiants new abilities. There is no way that Sanderson would have a radiant take the 5th oath and not reveal what happens and new powers that radiant gets. I mean everyone is waiting to find out what happens. It’s the 5th book. The next one won’t be out for almost a decade. There are at least 2 radiants who are close to the 5th oath. There is no way that Sanderson would have multiple characters swear the 5th oath and not explain it. We have two of the best fighters on the planet who are close to swearing the 5th oath. We have Jasnah who is also close. I can’t wait to see some kool battle scenes with a full radiant who has sworn all 5 oaths. Szeth is carrying Nightblood. That needs a ton of Stormlight to wield. There is no way that Sanderson would have him swear the 5th ideal and have him immediately forsake his oaths. Imagine Szeth gaining a ton of Stormlight and giving up all that stormlight knowing that he still needs to wield Nightblood. That would be highly unlikely. It’s a good thing that Sanderson would never do something like that.
  8. Did you finish the book? We glimpsed one in Dalinar’s visions. It was a major plot point.
  9. You literally just made my point. You don’t see a problem dating a fantasy made up species. However, you have a problem comparing that to dating a hypothetical sapient real earth species. If apes were sapient then dating a Parshendi would be exactly like dating an ape. It’s not problematic at all. I am glad that some people are actually thinking about the question instead of just saying “love is love” and equating it with dating outside of your race and gay dating. Dating outside of your particular species comes with a whole host of problems. There is the physical part of your relationship. Also a different species will think totally different from a human. I definitely saw some physical attraction between Rlain and Renarin. You don’t kiss someone that you’re not physically attracted to. There was an emotional connection because they were both outsiders. However, the physical attraction was there, too.
  10. I wonder if Spren can reproduce that way if they want to. Syl said that they have all the parts that humans do. That might not be a throw away line.
  11. Heralds are a bit more than spren. Heralds can reproduce.we don’t know if their herald genes actually pass down to their offspring. I wonder if Sanderson is going to explore if the herald part of their makeup actually affects their kids.
  12. I did. Humans don’t have shells on their heads or armor. They look like humans crossed with clams or turtles.
  13. Elves look like humans with pointy ears. Based on the fiction they are either just taller or shorter than humans. However, the question is also would YOU date someone like a singer or another species like that if you were in a world where that is an option. Dating an elf is nothing. Dating a singer would be more like dating a troll. Singers are humanoid, but they don’t look as much like humans as elves and dwarves. Singers also have different forms that make them look more or less human.
  14. Not really. Ii wasn’t going to respond like that However, I am going to change it to dating a listener. I was trying to get people to envision what all entails with actually dating a listener so that I would get a thorough answer. My bad. I took that question too far. It sounds kind of creepy when it’s quoted back.
  15. So here’s the question. If you were on Roshar could you see yourself kissing a war form listene?
  16. If apes were sapient then they wouldn’t be viewed as animalistic. We would view them like Rosharans view Listeners. It’s easy to say that listeners are human when you know their inner thoughts and motivations. However, if one approached you then you wouldn’t know any of that. You wouldn’t be an omniscient reader. You would only go by the way they look. Listeners look more or less human by the forms that they take. Those forms also influence their personalities. There’s a difference between being friendly with a listener and actually being physical with one.
  17. That Rlain/Renarin relationship is disgusting to me. Let’s not get into the same sex thing. I can’t imagine kissing a sapient shelled creature. Just imagine if apes were sapient and we have always known that. Now imagine yourself kissing a sapient ape. You can’t say that doesn’t make your skin crawl. That “love is love” phrase isn’t applicable to dating outside of your species. There are other practical problems with that also. There are things like introducing new diseases to the human population and other things like can you two even reproduce.
  18. Full Cosmere spoilers: How do you guys feel about inter-species dating? This is NOT about gay relationships so please don’t comment about that. I am definitely not about to get into that. I don’t know how I feel about humans dating listeners. No, that’s not racist. Humans dating other sapient species isn’t relatable to anything in the real world. It’s not like you dating an Asian, black person, white person, or anyone else outside of whatever race you are. It would be like you dating a sapient ape. Now just imagine yourself dating a sapient ape for a quick second. You can’t tell me that didn’t make you feel sick. How would you feel about dating someone like a listener. I am not talking about you as some omniscient reader who knows everyone’s thoughts and feelings. I mean the you now with your current hangups and that can only go by the way that characters look. I am not going to lie. If preventing a godlike being from waging war on humanity depended on me dating a sapient ape or shelled being then you guys better prepare for war because that’s not happening. Heck, if preventing a war depended on me marrying a Thaylen, you guys might be in trouble. Imagine Wax. He was dating a shape shifter and didn’t even know it. Dating in the Cosmere could definitely be tricky. You can find yourself unknowingly dating a spren or something and not even know it.
  19. Most of Navani’s chapters in book 4 was like taking an advanced course in fake science. It was pointless to me. I didn’t see the need to over explain Roshar’s magic system. That’s like taking an aeronautic engineering course to buy a ticket on an airplane. That could have been edited down to the parts where she discovered the new form of magic light.
  20. This book was so predictable. As soon as both Navani and Dalinar left it was obvious that they were going to get stuck there. If Odium had tricked them into going there then it wouldn’t have felt so contrived to me.
  21. Yeah, this book was definitely disappointing for me. I used to love this series.
  22. Everyone likes different things. I loved this series until this last book. I dislike this book a lot. Your statement is like me saying “anyone who likes this book is insane.”
  23. He only got Honor after he came back from the Spiritual Realm. Then he immediately let it go. He didn’t need Honor at all. All Dalinar did was free Odium. He could have done that from the beginning. No, Todium did not need to have Honor. We literally see in the text that the only reason that the other shards ignored Odium os because that he’s trapped on Roshar. Yeah, I know. However, there was no guarantee that he could have came back anyway. It was just likely that it would work. That still doesn’t change the fact that he went there for absolutely no reason.
  24. Cultivation was the one who originally suggested that he visit the spiritual realm. Instead of doing that, she could have just given him the visions herself. He didn’t have to go there at all.
  25. Full Cosmere spoilers: so according to Sunlit Man in the future magic just works anywhere despite which type of investiture it is? Also, how did Sigzel get Shard Plate with no spren? It really seemed like Aux(sp?) was the spren that made the Shard Plate also. Did Sanderson retcon the way that shard plates are formed in between books? Sigzel definitely doesn’t have any shard plate spren in Sunlit Man. After reading book 5, I am really confused how Aux died. Is he truly dead or is he just a dead eye back in Shadesmar?
