I was thinking about known Dawnshard mechanics & how Change and Exist were strongly pulled toward each other. My theory is that rather than dicing up Adonalsium 4 times and then 4 times on each piece (because why not do more or use one multiple times on the same piece to do 18 etc), the four Dawnshards were put on opposite sides of Adonalsium and used their conflicting attractive forces to pull it apart. This would also match the idea of a “Shattering”, where Adonalsium split upon lines of power and shattered all at once as opposed to being cut up a few times.

This would also mean that the Shards with high convergence with a Dawnshard like Preservation->Exist and Whimsy/Cultivation? -> Change (Honor->Bind?) would be the parts of Adonalsium most attracted to that Dawnshard, as opposed to parts separated with the same knife twice. What I like about this theory is that it means those Shards in the middle of the Shattering, the ones that are not fully attracted to one Shard or another, can be made up of multiple Intents as opposed to always 2. This can help account for some of the messiness that always comes from these double-diced charts.

It reminds me of the thread that somebody started about combinatorics and the Shards. You’ve got 1 shard with all 4, 6 pairs, 4 trios, 4 individuals, and 1 with nothing. It would map pretty well onto a shattering web with four corners pulling away from each other.
