DoctaDajman Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Is Verdant Aether strictly vines or do you think they can grow different types of plants? I think of vines and I think of how many different vines are out there. Some are thick, some are thin, some are long, some are stubby. Some have a decent outer layer of bark and some have sharp thorns. I think of other plants and the varieties found there as well. It makes me curious though... Do you think a verdant aetherbound could grow specific parts of plants? Could they grow a thicker bark like carapace? How much control do you suspect they have over the vines? Could they use them like awakened ropes to grow and grab things? Could they make them move back on themselves / retract in a way to pull themselves inward towards the aetherbound after being grown?

Are you asking about Verdant Aether (like Prasanva bonded to Silijana the Roseite Aether)? Or are you asking specifically about Aether Spores from Lumar? WoB: Spoiler Pagerunner At JordanCon, you sharpie’d the aether planet onto my constellation chart and said you couldn’t canonize the planet name until you wrote the book. Having been revealed as a dirty rotten liar to my face, can you now reveal the name of the planet? Has it changed from the prior incarnations of the aether world due to new worldbuilding? Brandon Sanderson This is not the aether planet. Ha ha! There are aethers on this planet. The planet where the aethers originate is a different planet in the Cosmere. This is a unique and different strain of the aethers that is doing something different. If you have read Aether of Night, the original aethers still act very similar to what's in Aether of Night. But these are different. You'll still see the same things, like roseite and stuff like that. You'll still see that they do the same things, but it's a different take on the same magic system. Did we come up with a name for this planet yet? Isaac Stewart We're calling it Lumar. Brandon Sanderson The whole twelve moons thing Regardless, this is not the actual aether planet. So, yes, I'm not a dirty rotten liar about that specific thing. Secret Project #1 Reveal and Livestream (March 8, 2022) So, I have not found a WoB stating that Verdant (Aetherbound) will only produce vines like Aether Spores from Lumar, but I would not be surprised if the actual Aether is more flexible than the Spores on Lumar appear to be.

I was asking about an aetherbound. I know it's all speculation at this point but I can't help thinking of a cosmere version of a non shifting based druid. All of those cool nature spells from D&D... Shillelagh, only its grown directly into your hand. Thorn Whip, but the ability to choose yes or no to the thorns. Barkskin, only you can choose where to grow it and how much. The list goes on... if you could replicate other plants then perhaps you could even grow portions of carnivorous or poisonous plants as well. Imagine slapping someone with a supercharged stinging nettle vine you grew out. I'm probably pushing it way too far but if this existed in the cosmere I would love it. If I am missing it please point me in the right direction.

(Request a copy) it is non-canon, but does show more versitility with Verdant than what we saw from Spores Slight Spoilers: Spoiler The primary Verdant-bonded character is fairly new to her bond, so much of what may be possible is not fully explored. But there are some implications for some of your questions. Such as growing Verdant as armor (but not necessarily bark-like).
