Elder Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 (edited) How will things work under Retribution? I’m guessing Singers will be able to change forms at midnight, fused taking new hosts around the same time. We’ll see how well they can adapt to a world where they won. Fabrials will probably work by the same principles, including soulcasters. Everything reliant upon the new god. I expect Retribution to be a very hard god to live under. Lots of divine judgement. Honor would just withdraw from those who broke with him. Retribution will punish. Probably some very targeted lightning. Outside Urithiru, the Nale’s Skybreakers are probably quite willing to work under Retribution… for now. we might…. Might be able to see a new Nightwatcher Bondsmith. I doubt Retribution would field anything quite so powerful. A bondsmith would be quite dangerous to him. Edited December 11, 2024 by Elder 2
DSCrankshaw Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I do wonder whether Warlight is usable by Knights Radiant. It's obviously not as freely available as Stormlight, which appeared with each Highstorm. So even if they can use it, they'll probably find it harder to get ahold of. Whether it can be used by Fabrials is also an interesting question. My guess is that Knights Radiant and Fabrials can use Warlight, in the same way that they can use Towerlight.

Probably… but it sounds like you have to pray to Retribution to get it. That may be an issue for some. Retribution is making everyone dependent on him. He’s going to be a very controlling god.
JustQuestin2004 he/him Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I can't wait to see how the Fused react to the revelation that their new god is, in fact, one of the humans that they so hate! Chances are, most won't rebel for fear of smiting, but it'll be fun to see some growling about it later on.

That charging likely requires Intent. That is, if you think that Retribution is an abominable tyrant, it won't work.

I expect that deal might not be good for everyone. I'm not sure whether he'll just give it to singers, or only in certain places, but I'm willing to bet the Azish won't have easy access to Warlight. The Skybreakers probably will. I'm going to guess that Syl will be the Stormfather's replacement (the Stormqueen?). She had storms in her eyes and accepted Kaladin's Herald Oath. When she returns with Kaladin, maybe she will provide Stormlight.

It is possible that as a consequence of the reworking of the Oathpact, Sja-Anat can no longer Enlighten/Corrupt Spren. Her power is of Odium, Part of Retribution afterall.

Of course, she may also be among the protected Spren… though that seems unlikely. Warlight can probably power radiants, but without Spren, Retribution cannot command Radiants, which is a serious blow to his plans… unless… He could create his own Spren I’m sure. From there his own Radiants… though I doubt he’s willing to field a bondsmith. That would be quite dangerous.

Mechanically I would guess if you have the Connection to use Stormlight or Voidlight you should be able be able to use Warlight. It is possible however that Mr.T can deliberately revoke your ability to use it. Agreed on the Creation of new Spren. Regarding a Bondsmith, functionally I'm pretty sure if someone bonded one of the Sentient Unmade, they would be a Bondsmith. My guess is Sja-Anat or B.A.M. will be the new Third Bondsmith Spren in the future.

I feel like it would almost take another bondsmith to initiate the bond, but yes, those two would definitely be candidates and such a bondsmith could probably produce light that would supply rebel radiants. I don’t think Taravangian’s likely to trust anyone with the power of a Bondsmith. I wonder if a solution to the issue of increasingly unstable fused might be converting them into radiant Spren. Their situation has to change. Edited December 13, 2024 by Elder
